I knew the Silva's in Detroit; they were DO'ing there. I heard they eventually left the "traveling work" and were enjoying the pursuit of material stuff! Does anyone know?

New Bedford, Mass. in the 1950's -- photos
by Fatfreek ini hail from new bedford, mass.
i was a newbie with the jw's in the mid 50's, quickly and naively following my parents, and when i graduated high school (new bedford high) i moved to where the "need was great" in central iowa.
the following is a composite photo of some of the folks that met on the second floor of an insurance building in new bedford.

What the Heck is the WTBTS up to!

Their numbers are falling. The "preaching" isn't effective; they're mainly baptizing kids. If they could strong arm "inactive ones" back into the org, it might make a difference. Maybe this is behind the push though the r&f wouldn't know it. This time they're buying into, again, the line that the end is practically here. Just think, if they could get former jw's back how much less work it would be than the door to door work.

Another letter from the Disfellowshipped JW
by reneeisorym into those of you who followed the last post about the idiot who keeps e-mailing me -- he keeps sending me more letters even though i quit sending him letters.. .
good morning renee: i expect you will be reading this early when you come to work.
these are trumped up charges just like they did to jesus and the apostles by those who hate jehovah and his flock.

He sounds seriously crazy, unbalanced. I'd steer clear of him. Does he live near you? You might want to document what he's doing just in case...

Giving Up The Struggle
by choosing life ini recently realized that i don't know or need to know the answers to the big questions in life.
the details no longer matter to me.
i just kinda gave up on the struggle to be right or in the know.

I love the feeling. I no longer need to have all the answers, and it's so liberating!

Ever hear an experience at an assembly that you KNOW was slanted?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini remember one at a district assembly.
a brother was being interviewed as to why he never chose over time work at his job.
he said he worked for a small printing company and that he was content with working regular hours.

When I pioneered in my early twenties, I was at a rehearsal for a c.a. part on pioneering and a middle aged sister was being coached on her experience. She was a pioneer and had an older highschooler at home and was talking about how she managed her schedule. When she said she had a teenager at home she was stopped and told to say she was the mother of three; technically correct, but the two others were adults and out of the house. They wanted her to sound like she had three kids at home and was pioneering anyway. Even then I could see what they were doing.
