I want to call my mom...any advise???
by megsmomma inmy mom has disowned me and subsequently, my 6 month old....and i am sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there's anything you can do to get her to think about her beliefs other than being happy yourself. If you can risk and handle rejection, you could call and say, "I just wanted you to know the grandbaby is doing fine and is sitting up and trying to crawl," or whatever milestone is going on right now. She may want to hear this kind of news; if not, you've tried. Just be prepared so you're not hurt more.

Awkward moment Tuesday night
by Jourles inon tuesday night, i took an elbow to the nose while playing volleyball.
a guy i play with is an er doctor and recommended i go to the er just to make sure everything was ok. turned out i had a "nasal fracture with contusion.
" anyways, while talking with the admissions lady, one of the questions she asked me was, "any religion or church you want me to put you down as affiliated with?

Ouch! Hope they gave you something for pain.
When out of earshot of your wife, you may want to make sure the "JW" label is completely out of your medical records. It popped up in mine after I'd changed my religious affiliation. Funny what gets stuck in the system sometimes.

Heard at last Sunday talk...
by Justice-One ini almost had to sneeze and scream bullshit when i heard this.
the brother giving the talk said that the society has never made a prediction about when the end would come.
he said people just read what the society published, and added their own thoughts to it!!!

The wife of our district overseer was quite bitter over the 1975 thing. They'd stayed childless, pioneered, gone into the traveling work and basically sacrificed a lot. There was a small paragraph somewhere-might have been a km- that she took as an apology from the wts for their mistake. When '75 was over, her concern was they not die before the end because resurrected ones wouldn't marry. She wanted a family. They're probably no longer alive; they were of Knorr's generation, knew him well.

Annual Meeting Quote
by XBEHERE ina friend of mine said an elder in his congregation who attended gave a part on the service meeting lastnight about the upcoming campaign and one of the things he said was during one of the gb talks at the annual meeting i think he said it was morris stated that "the governing body is certain that jehovah's day is getting near" anyone go to that meeting or also heard this?
can they verify?
his reasoning for his part was no wonder the year text is zepheniah 1:14 and we are presenting this tract "false religion's end is at hand" .

Hardships and Assemblies
by Sunspot ini just left a post on the "pa convention" thread concerning some of the hardships and difficulties that jws had to (or some here still have to?
) endure just to either get to a convention or what they go through after getting to the convention.. having to trot around from designated doors to the restrooms (rather than being ordered to use the door they told you to) no matter where your family was sitting..... or having you and your family have to climb way too many stairs on the last upper tier to find seats.....while plenty of empty seats remained on the ground floor that were never used that whole day?.
or the designated wts-regulation-sized cooler you had to lug into the stadium because you weren't allowed to leave the site to get a snack or a drink?.

Camping with a five week old baby and two very young children because we couldn't afford to pay for a hotel. Cooking every morning and night and packing a lunch for everyone. Washing diapers at the one washing machine in the campground. (My mother washed diapers in a tub of a rooming house when my sister was little and woke up to roaches crawling all over in the middle of the night. This was also one of the eight-day assemblies in Yankee Stadium.) Not to mention making sure all the clothes were clean to pack and cleaning the entire house before leaving. I never got much out of an assembly once I had kids; maybe that's why I "fell away." lol

How did you feel, when you missed your 1st Memorial?
by JH ini remember going to each memorial even when i was inactive.
i felt that i had to go to atleast that meeting.. then one year, i was sick on that day, and didn't go to the memorial.
it was a funny feeling to miss the most important day of the year, as a jw would call it.. but i got used to it, when i missed my 2nd and 3rd memorial..

I was on the Caribbean Island of St. Martin. Drinking feverishly under a clear "Nisan 14" moon lit night..
Well, not quite. I was in Cancun and had admired the full moon gleaming over the water. It wasn't until I returned home and my daughter said someone had been by with an invitation to the memorial that I realized I'd missed it. Oddly enough, no guilt, just surprise that I forgot that easily.

Do you miss 'em?
by Jourles inif you're df'd or da'd and your friends and family have cut you off, do you still miss them?.
i miss some of my good friends i admit.
but do you want to know something really callous?

My mom is one of those witnesses that will defend the WTS to her death, right or wrong. I have absolutely no hope that she will ever leave.
My sisters, too. I missed my mom most of all, but I got over it for the most part. There were times I was sad. Thing is, I was never df'd or da'd but my family shunned me when I became inactive. I no longer miss my sisters. I believe shunning makes leaving easier in the long run, no constant reminders to "go back." If the society thinks shunning is effective, they should think again.
I sometimes still miss my best friend; she was closer than any of my sisters. We understood each other and were there for each other in hard times. Wish I could tell her.

I've had someone at my door twice in the last eleven or twelve years; so much for covering the territory! I just politely say, "No," and close the door.
