Are there still things that were witness no-no's that you refrain from?
by AK - Jeff infor me, after decades as a witness there are quite a few i suppose.
this thread was inspired by min's thread about sex and our attitudes now as opposed to when we were witnesses.. one thing that i have never done - and it might seem somewhat trivial to many - i have never, not once, in my entire life uttered the f word.
i always found it to be utterly vulgar - and i still do.

MY DAD HAS LEFT THE ORGANIZATION!!
by freedomlover inhold on everybody....ready for this.... .
if you've been reading my posts over the past few months you'd see the research and progress my dad (a former elder) has been making.
he and my stepmom were visiting us this weekend and he told us he's done with the jw's.

I'm in a similar situation except I am a Christian. (At least I try to be) None of us know all the Answers. I believe we are all Children of God, no matter what faith we profess.
As a parent, we love our children unconditionally. I believe our Heavenly Father is like that in even a Greater Sense.
He Loves Our Children even more than we can realize ane he is in Control. With that said, I am able to leave my precious oldest son Thomas in his care. It does get easier with time.

When you receive an ...shepherding visit, why not express appreciation ..?
by jgnat in"when you receive an encouraging shepherding visit, why not express appreciation for it?

Perhaps I'm incorrect but don't the elders doing the so Called "Shepherding Visit" Count the Time?
The only time my ex-husband calls our non-JW daughters or son, he trys to force the Literature on them. He says He cares. My youngest daughter says "Yeah Right!"

Supernatural experiences
by catbert inmany ex-jw's experience a new found freedom to investigate and question all the things they once felt were true, and may ultimately come to the conclusion that the bible is just a book of stories and take science as their new "religion".
it happened to me...) but a question i have is this: are all supernatural experiences hallucinations?
science would say probably yes.

I absolutely do believe in Supernatural Experiences. And I don't attribute them to Demons.

Once saved always saved?
by greendawn inat one extreme are people like the jws that we criticise for relying too much on works for their salvation and so they have to live through a lot of anxiety day after day out of fear of failing.
at the other extreme are those that say "i am saved by faith alone, once saved always saved, that's why jesus died for us" and seem to ignore completely the good works factor.
obviously the right balance is somewhere between the two but we need more sophisticated thinking to grasp it than just: i need works to be saved or i need only faith to be saved.

My daughter has a bumper sticker on her car that says in essence "Please God, Save me From the Christians" Something to think about.

He was "Especially" proud of his younger brother Marlon who actually went to college while in the JWs. I really loved his spunk.

Is is my imagination so many young JWs are dropping dead and no autopsies are done? Last year a young man in his late 30s, perhaps early 40s died. Another ex-JW and I went to the Viewing to give our condolences to the family. David's Mother spoke to us. She said she believed it was his heart because she had had a heart attack the previous year. (Now she's in her 70s) No Autopsy so how could anyone be certain. I would want to know if it were my son. I heard David wasn't an Active JW, but he wasn't disfellowshipped either. Only the Mother and his sibllings spoke with us; the others glared. At least they know we cared.
I just received word that a JW, Mike Price died on May 26th. Supposedly he dropped dead. They "Think" the "Medicine" he was taking caused the problem. (No Autopsy?) I Remember Mike as being an Independent Thinker. He was disfellowshipped for a while but eventually went back because his entire family (except his Dad) were in the Borg . He was expecially proud of his younger brother Marlon who actually went to college while in the JWs. I really loved his spunk. I haven't seen him in over 12 years.
These two guys are both from Columbus Ohio. Now I'm wondering how common is this? Why aren't Autopsies Done? Do the Authorites just take the family's word that it's "Probably" the Heart?
I'm having a really tough time with Mike's death.
