We had a couple of very elderly sisters in our cong. One was the widow of a very well respected elder. They literally were the ones that started the congregation etc... Her husband died. Eventually she needed some work done around the house. We had to nearly beg, coerce, pry, cry and everything possible to get any help whatsoever. It was very depressing. This is what happens in general in just about every congregation I was associated with. Even just to get someone to pick up the elderly on the way to the hall. While I was a witness would make up silent excuses in my head. Just no real brotherly love at all.

Senior Citizens......How does your congregation treat them?
by crazyblondeb innot as good as they use too... but then again they are following the lead of the wts.
why bother with fellowship when you can plug everyone into the telephone.. one one hand they are pushing fs, on the other they are making so many changes that several of the elderly are getting depressed, especially ever since the may 1, 2007 qfr.
with the afternoon bs soon yanked, many not allowed to drive at night, and elderships that don't care enough to orchestrate carpools....it is bad..

That entire CD entitled Highwayman is awesome. Waylon, Willie, Johnny and Kris were a tremendous team. Desperados Waiting for a Train and The Last Cowboy Song are great songs too.

I know for me that it was a lack of concern or action toward ones needing real help in the congregation. We had a much respected sister in the cong who suffered from a stroke. At first there was some response from a few. Then as the months passed it was difficult to even get friends to visit this poor sister. It seems to only be the few that really extend themselves to others in times of need.

My first time being shunned in public
by xjwms inso thats what it feels like.. i am not df'ed or da'ed, ... i have just stopped going to meetings.
my wife is trying to be as active as she can.. so all morning i am out of my regular routine.
late getting out of bed and late about everything today.. so i leave the house, and before getting to the office, i decide to stop at the mall for a quick, maybe 15 min, walk.. as soon as i get inside, taking my coat off, here is the elder who did everything he could in his power to get me out...and lied...and added to gossip that ran me outta there.. he and his wife spot me .. and turn there heads away and continue on their walk, .. eyes fixed on some thing away from me.. so thats what it feels like.........now i know.

II get many who dont know I was Df'ed. So I grew a beard just to make it easier on them and me. I do get the stares and the whispering behind my back. Many of the very ones that give me the dirtiest looks are the ones that I helped the most. Oh well...

How many left the JW cult after.....
by AK - Jeff inthe age of 40?.
seems like a lot have left after 1/2 or 2/3 of a lifetime.
what accounts for that in your mind, if you left in later middle years or older?.

I was 41 when I was Df'ed. It has been 4 years. I still miss the comeraderie but have found many new friends I never would have if I was still "in". When I first left I had very vivid dreams of being annihilated by lightening at armageddon. I still had doubts like.. maybe it is the truth but these issues are much like Korah brought up against Moses. Slowly the veil has been lifted. I am happy and free.

The GB as JW celebrities
by Rubyvixen ini am really, really curious as to how other people back while in the org viewed the gb.
because my oldest brother (older than me by 14 years!
) was first at the watchtower farms and then brooklyn bethel and my uncle is a member of the gb, my mother tended to flaunt these facts and look for every opportunity to go to either place with her bible studies (these terms are so weird to use after all these years lol).

I am in Connecticut and used to GB members giving talks at our cong and at circuit and district assemblies. I remember doing a double take on a few occassion when a bethelite would speak and then I would recognize the voice from the dramas or cassette tapes. I remember getting talked to a few times about my Dan Sydlik immitation.

You know you're a JW when....
by Preston inyou know that d.c. isn?t the capital where the president of the united states lives .
a pioneer isn?t an 1800?s historical figure who traveled the west.
the majority of books in your parent?s bookshelf have years on them.

P.O. doesnt mean Pissed Off
M.S. isnt something that is debilitating...wait a minute
A beard is just something that Jesus, Moses and Abraham wore

Do some WT phrases make you squirm?
by jeanniebeanz infor me it's "the doors of the ark are closing.
i can never forget as a child, being forced to see the graphic images in the publications showing families, mothers with little babies clinging to a rock and others drowning as the ark floats away.
fathers shaking their fists at god for destroying their families... it's like some of the little mind control still functioning in there somewhere causing a kneejerk reaction of uneasiness.... are there any others that bug you?.

can't use Lucky....but "fortunate" fills the bill nicely. Could always tell a newbie when they would use the term lucky when they spoke.
