JWism and their curious doctrine of salvation
by Laika inin christian theology there is often a lot of talk about whether we are saved by faith or works, and what exactly those things mean.
this thread is not exactly about that, instead it's about how jws, in their inimitable style, somehow managed to create a doctrine that mixes the worst of both and caused me no end of internal conflict as a jw.. in jw doctrine, life is about an argument between jehovah and satan.
satan said that nobody follows jehovah out of love, but only for what they can personally get out of it.

"Shepherd the flock of God"
by Laika inlooking after you dirty sheep can be a challenge for any of the 'gifts in men' among us.
thank jah that the faithful & discreet slave has provided an elder's manual for assistance, i mean, it's not as if the bible is any use in such matters.
here are some of my favourite pearls of wisdom to help us truly appreciate the blessings of the slave class:.

Baptismal regeneration
by Laika ini've decided to start a thread on christian theology, wherein i will lay out what i believe scripture teaches about baptism... because i can.
throughout the first 1500 years of christian history, it was universally understood that the christian is 'born again' at water baptism (and the majority of christians still hold to this) but then many christians started to argue that baptism was just a symbol of obedience, but i posit that nowhere in the bible will you find a verse that claims baptism is just a symbol, instead scriptural references to baptism always claim that it actually achieves something:.
john 3:5 - born of water and spirit.

Dealing with JW family
by Laika ina little update on my life: a few months ago i was sure i was going to be disfellowshipped as my mum told me that my dad had reported my apostasy to the elders.
however, nothing has come of this so far in about 2 months and i am very relieved!
i am not sure if it was because the report to the elders was just an empty threat to scare me back in, or because they reported me to their local elders and now that i am a member of a new congregation those elders decided they couldn't be bothered to pursue me.

JWs and War
by Laika inhere's the scene, you're out for a walk with a jw, and somehow discussion turns to religion.. the jw says: 'i know jws have the truth because we don't go to war, members of other churches will kill each other if their government asks them to, but the bible says 'do not kill' and we follow that.'.
how do you respond?.

Jesus and the universal sovereignty issue
by Laika incompare: (http://m.wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102005142 - emphases mine).
... satan charged god with lying and implied that jehovah was unfair in not letting adam and eve decide for themselves what was right and what was wrong.
after adam and eve sinned and as the earth began to be filled with their offspring, satan questioned the motive of all humans.
