An evening of debauchery -- brought to you by Jehovah's Witnesses
by logansrun inhow did i spend my new years eve?
with a bunch of drunk jehovahs witnesses, that's how!
my best friend -- who hasn't been to a meeting in three months and has referred to isaiah books i and ii as "shit" -- has connections with the outer periphery of the organization's young folk.

A question regarding letters of disassociation....
by logansrun inare elders instructed to contact a jw who has written a letter of da before they make the announcement to the congregation?
i mean, even a phone call to persuade them not to take that course of action?
the reason i ask is my father told me that no one contacted him in any way when he mailed his da letter to the elders.

My trip to the Bethel library....
by logansrun intowards the middle of my eighteen-month critical investigation of the jws and the bible i decided to pay a visit to my sister and brother-in-law at the patterson bethel complex in new york.
perhaps it was a last-ditch effort to salvage whatever faith i had in the organization, or maybe it was the realization that i would not be able to see my sister under semi-normal conditions again if i left; i don't know.
of course, the trip did not save my crumbling faith.

William Barclay...scholar
by logansrun ini was at the book store today and spent about two hours reading scholar william barclay's "introduction to the bible" as well as some of his commentaries on nt books.
now, let me lay aside the fact that i am an agnostic and in no way a christian...but this fellow is impressive.
i don't think i've ever read a modern christian writer whose thinking was as clear and thoughtful as his.

"Questions From Readers" or "Questions From Writers"?
by logansrun inis it just me, or does the "questions from readers" segment in the watchtower these days sound phoney?
i know years ago they had the initials of the questioner along with their country of residence underneath their questions which seemed more, oh i don't know, realistic.
(the things people used to ask about!
