I told the baptist church pastor that I'm gay!
by TimothyT inhis reaction wasnt as liberal as i hoped it would be.
he said that we needed to discuss it.
however, gone are the days where im putting myself in the firing line and not sticking up for myself.

Shredding the Organised to Accomplish Our Ministry book
by scotsman injust read through the 2011 letters to usa boe and the 8 february one on disposing of old wt books/magazine struck me as apparently the co needs to authorise their disposal.
what really intrigued me was that the om book was required to have it's cover removed and the pages "shredded".. was everyone in the congegation asked to shred their personal copies too?.

Timmy, I'm presuming they want the whole thing shredded as the contents were superceded by Organized to do Jehovah's Will (which I've never seen) in 2005.
I know I'm supposed to hate, and have been traumatised by, the Paradise Lost book but I loved the graphics and it was certainly better than the grotesquery that followed: My Book of Bible Stories.

Non NWT use in Public Talks
by cantleave ini am sure that when i gave talks, although the nwt was always the main bible used, other translations could be used to make a point.. the elders recived a letter dated may10th 2011 re:public speakers and it stated under the subheading "reading from scriptures".
scriptures should be read by the speaker rather than requesting a volunteer from the audience.
the new world translation should be used, if available.

Blondie, how would the COs know? They only public talks they hear are the ones they give.

Sapphy, the instruction was for unused copies that remained in stock.
I've been out for 10 years and that instruction seemed wholly bizarre. As if they were trying to bury the past...

I remember reading from the Living Bible... and reading directly from Barclay's commentaries. I guess that wouldn't be permitted now.

Wifes leaving their husbands
by Lazarus inthis year alone, three wifes in my congo left their husband and da with jws (all of them have kids).
similar cases are seen in nearby congos.
its striking that far more women leave their man and the jws then man do.. i would like to know, whether this observation can be made in your area too.

Were There/Are There A Number Of Gays At Bethel?
by minimus ini remember the "boy's club" mentality from many of the bethelites in the 70's and 80's.
it seemed there were a number of males who were "effeminate" back in the day.. i knew of one guy that was told by the bethel brass that he would "go places" at headquarters if he could learn to deepen his voice and tone down his gestures a bit (and he was told it wouldn't hurt if he ever married a fellow bethelite sister).
this man was extensively used at conventions, became less "gay looking" and got married.. so my question is, did you see effeminate men in bethel?

In answer to minimus question, yes, there were/are a number of "gays" at Bethel. We're everywhere else so why would Bethel be different. And I agree with Steve2, the knuckle-dragging perceptions of sexuality on here are, at times, deplorable.
Minimus, what is it with you and homosexuality, is it a topic you feel hasn't been clearly explored by all your previous threads?

Personal Grudges and Judicial Committees: is There a Link?
by passwordprotected ini've received a submitted article for publication on my blog (http://thegoverningbody.org).
this is from the introduction:.
i have an issue i would like raise.

I remain surprised that anyone expects a 'judicial committee' to be some ethically based court. It's a nonsense, the very premise of it. They make up the rules and if you don't play by them shit happens.
