Nikola Tesla, wireless phone predicted 1909!
by DwainBowman ini lived in a boarding house near a library for a few years from age 15 to 18. i spent lots of time reading popular mechanics & popular science.
all the way back to their first issues.
when i heard about the gb's claim, and 1922, i knew that someone before had predicted the cell phone.

I had heard he was working on wireless power transmission until he died . I wonder who inherited his notes after his death. Could we really get rid of those huge, ugly power transmission lines?
My husband works for the phone company on the landline side of the business. Between cellular and VOIP, his skills are useful mostly for maintenance or high security applications where copper wires are preferable.
Could power transmission lines become redudant as well?

Billion + believe in Satan. Should all schools be mandated to teach Creationism?
by Gnostic Bishop inbillion + believe in satan.
should all schools be mandated to teach creationism?.
we must save our children from foolish belief in the supernatural.. .

I agree. Creationism is not science and shouldn't be taught in Science class.
Comparative religion is usually reserved for university. There just seems to be very little room for it, unless as an elective, in a rigorous college prep curriculum in high school.
Critical thinking is rising in importance even among the lower grades now. Elementary aged students are being asked, "Is this a credible source?"

Helping Grandma Move.
by exwhyzee inwe helped my wife's 83 year old mother move this weekend (30year regular pioneer).
she's having memory issues now and is moving into a nice little apartment built off the back of her (elder) son's house.
among a lifetime of memories, kids report cards, black and white photos of long dead swans etc., i found stacks of old society publications from as far back as the 1920's including bound volumes and rutherford books.

Jehovah's Trumpet - Dangers of Superstition
by cofty inthe latest blast of "jehovah's trumpet" warns us about the irrational nature of common superstitions.... the article then goes on to provide counsel on the dangers of the domonic attacks that often result from unwisely purchasing second-hand objects.
the risk is demonstrated by recounting the real-life story of poor sister lemming and her new ministry bag.. genius satire as always!
please take some time to read the community comments.. .

My JW mother is very superstitious, but plays it off as just being something her mother would say. I would hear things growing up like:
"Oh, a bird just flew into the window, my mother always said that means someone will die."
"I just took a chill. Mom always said that meant someone was walking over your grave."
If you call her on it, she will deny that she is superstitious, but she gets obviously upset when a bird flies into a window.

IS THIS SICK? LYING TO DISABLED CHILDREN!!
by Bloody Hotdogs! inhas anyone watched the videos for children on jw.org?
i feel sick.. in one video a little girl dreams about paradise: the blind can see again, the deaf can hear again, and of course, she gets to hug a cute little panda cub.
not until the end of the video is her wheelchair revealed.

Just when you think you're past it all...
by Phaedra inyou"re now the "unbelieving mate" who is now pursuing your degree just before your mid-life crisis hits because until you woke up to the tatt, you bought into the whole "you'll never grow older in this system of things...".
you're watching your parents grow old fully-invested.... your spouse still invested because "there is no better alternative....".
your in-laws still won't come over tomorrow (thanksgiviing day) to eat turkey because it might just look like.... just when you think you're past it all and you feel that little bit of jw that is still there at your core eventhough you think you're beyond jwism..... and you remember and empathize and love your loved ones just a little bit more... because as of yet, they cannot find it in them to distance themselves from somethign you found limiting, closing, dark, and oppressive.. may they all find their freedom one day.

Oh, I agree with that Doc. I guess to be more clear I should say that I'm sad that they are too old to ever make leaving really practicible.
If I could have helped them get out, even in their 50s, it may have been possible. But, they're in their 60s and retired now. How could they start their life all over? Now that it's winding down...
