FYI, there are better articles about this. The practice in question is not merely homosexuality, which most of the civilized world has no problem with. The problem is that the mullahs liked young boys. There was a name for them, don't recall exactly.

The Taliban were, in fact, violently opposed to this practice, which has since flourished since their fall. (Not saying they're saints here, but an important thought can be gleaned from this - just because a religion picks on something generally considered 'evil' doesn't mean everything else they do is then right).

Restrictive vs Permissive

hardcore dubs can be quite restrictive on their kids.

they are simply following organization rules but try to impose them on their children: no school sports or activities for you and absolutely no parties with those evil, worldly corruptibles in your class.

oh, and you must never, ever be alone with someone of the opposite sex because the instant you are, you'll just be ripping each other's clothes off... i'm not sure if it was because they were in the spotlight more, but it seemed to me that the kids with the hardcore parents were the ones getting baptized early and then getting disfellowshiped or reproved a couple years later.. jw parents have huge issues of mistrust and they close the channel of communication because their children fear reproof.

Your situation sucks on a lot of levels. It's generally better to stop them before a relationship starts, but once it does....

Honestly, if he is living a double-life, I think it could be safely said he WOULD NOT leave the org for her. Since he isn't really 'in it' now. He has the thought that he can go to meetings, make a show of being 'in', and still live a wordly life. This will become harder to do when he becomes an adult, as he will be expected to make more of a presence in the hall or leave. Since his family is 'in', which way do you think he'll lean? ESPECIALLY if your daughter sticks with him now - he'll reason she can fake it just as well as he could....

What to do about it? Wish I knew. Best bet is to try and arrange things to create a confrontation - force the issue early. No idea how to do that, though.

well, to bring you guys up to speed, here is what happend this weekend.

i told my wife how i was feeling and why i didn't believe the wt was not god's org.

So, you're saying the org does not have the complete truth now? Just checking. In fact, wait, I suggest you write a letter to your local PO asking why the org doesn't have the complete truth now. See what happens.

Out of curiosity, why not? Why was the knowledge given to the org from God in 1960 telling them organ transplans were wrong, yet in 1980, the message from God is that they were okay. If god doesn't change, somebody lied at some point about being inspired by him....

Other religions don't do this.
Bullshit! This is carefully prepared watchtower propoganda. I challenge you to find me ONE, even ONE religion that has maintained a belief from its founding that can be proven to be wrong using their beliefs.

Sure they were wrong about 1914, and perhaps about other things now.

Because x-JWs are not claiming to be inspired by god in their beliefs. The Org is.

It wasn't God or his orginization at that time that was wrong, just these individuals
And repeating that over and over kept me in as long as I was. Problem is, the org has been CONSISTENTLY wrong since its very founding. It has, in fact, NEVER had a prophecy it made come true.

well here is a new batch of jw urban legends (oops, i mean experiences) i just got in the e mail.

Well, the first illustration clearly shows how easy it is to brainwash children, and holds them up as an example in how easily it should be to brainwash the listener (why aren't you all this easy to brainwash?? SHAME on you!!)

The second is a wonderful illustration showing how taking bets and gambling can really work to a christian's benefit. Baby needs a new pair of shoes, praise jah!

The third is a excellent example in how we should be able to be presented with a clear, direct statement, and be able to misinterpret it to what the society wants. This is all VERY bible-based and upbuilding!

Next is a classic example of a dog returning to its own vomit! Praise jah that the society has used this behavior as a warning to us! (oh, wait, what was the point of the story, again?)

Next we find a fine example that we don't even need to be coherent in our prayers, since god isn't going to pay attention to them anyway, and will go ahead and do whatever the hell he feels like. Praise the lord!

And, finally, we have a wonderful case where a sister in potential trouble is deserted by her god again, and wordly men must come to the rescue.

What a fine list of examples for all of us!

I see Farkel and sleepy beat me to the punch - just as well, their comments are probably better. I'll leave mine up, though, still good advice, me thinks.

I've talked with family 'in'. They do a good job of making YOU the evil party and putting YOU on the defensive. You've really got to come at them prepared, because their canned answers were well-prepared for them.

Just remember, with few exception, as good as their arguments sound, they are just repeating what they've been told to say. If you can get past that, you can really hit them hard.

(Incidently, yes I HAVE found a religion with more truth than the JWs - it's called 'pagan'. It's wonderful - doesn't conflict with what science has found to be true of evolution, doesn't require suspension of disbelief in why an all-powerful god would ignore the plight of his followers, doesn't require belief in some of messiah-ransom arrangement, and it actually provides a reason to love my fellow man - ALL OF THEM - not just fellow members of some cult....)

You're picking at details, which they are good at deflecting. Concentrate on the CORE of what's wrong....

Why does the society prohibit questioning the org at all?

Why MUST you agree completely with their current teachings, when they reserve the right to change them? (But, you cannot attempt to anticipate the changes - that's 'running ahead of the org').

Why do they attempt to regulate, not only your life, but your thoughts, as well?

Don't attack specific older doctrines, ask instead why, 'when Jesus returned in 1914', he picked their organization as the truth, with all of those doctines that have since been overturned. Either the lord in heaven made a mistake then, or the org is mistaken now....

(and, if you ARE going to nitpick, I'dve picked better topics. The UN thing is generally greated with a 'who cares'. The pedophile thing they've always had plausible deniability in. As long as you question specific doctrines that've been overturned, they can deflect the questions with 'new light'.)

You'll need to target specific teachings that are currently unsupportable - ask about 1 Sam 14:32 - why was a loyal army allowed to eat blood for their convenience, and a modern Christian cannot take a transfusion to save their lives? Why do they assume the 144,000 in Revelation is a literal number when the surrounding text in that chapter is figurative? Why do they continue to maintain Jesus died on a stake, when we have proof romans used CROSSES to execute criminals (not stakes - CROSSES)? etc.

(Oh, and in case you feel these are minor issues - tell them that you are certain of your beliefs in these few matters and won't be changing your correct understanding of these things, and see how they react).

Any ExJW kids out there?

i am 7 years old and would like to make some friends with any ex jw kids out there.. i like music, dancing, movies (just saw clockstoppers, it was awesome), books.

we are about to move and i made a house out of the boxes!

my mom says i should be an engineer when i grow up because i can make lots of neat things with the boxes!.

How would a WTS 'operative' behave?

i'm sure several here have posted and tried to be a thorn in the flesh of some of the jw-loyal forums on the net.. what was most effective?

if someone announced "i am an apostate and i think you jws are all wrong and i will prove why" do you think they would last very long?

to be able to do any damage so to speak, a careful masquarade would need to be maintained of being a loyal jw while stying to stir things up.. now, think of how anyone opposed to us 'opposers' would behave here .... would they announce that they are jws and they they were going to "set us all straight" ... or would they pretend to be an apostate ... pretend to 'help with the cause' but try and do more harm than good?.

Whats the worst 'get-together' game you endured?

as a young teenager, we were always having get-togethers.... you know the spiritually upbuilding' kind ie.

bible quizzies, really boring stuff.

Honestly, we didn't do this too often. I came from a hall with a LOT of VERY spiritual older sisters who discouraged the 'moms' from wasting time throwing these parties - if they have that much time, they should be out in the ministry warning everyone about the end of the world!

(And, is socializing is that important, what better way than in the car, between doors, discussing your next presentation?) I get the feeling they might have been bitter they were single/unhappily married and wanted to make sure the next generation ended up that way, too....

4. Poor Kitty.
!! That is...uhhh...based on a frat game, you know? The....uhhhh....details are a little different, though.....

one game was to pick a bible character, reveal the first letter of their name....
We did that one in the cargroups between doors (as kids). Our congregation was in kind of a rural area, so between territores, it could easily be a 15-30 minute drive (which was another can of worms - since the territories were so far, the service overseer recommended calling on a house near the hall 'so you could start your time right away'!).

Anyway, anyone who grew up in the borg remember any other ways you kept yourselves busy in service?
