This religion is way too restrictive

i need to vent about some stuff that this religion does to just about anyone at this point.

so i was raised in this religion and when i was 12 or 13 i told my mom (and step dad which has made my decision much firmer) that i didn’t want to be a witness because it’s too restrictive.

my mom proceeded to cry and guilt trip her way into ending this conversation.

You said you are a junior in high school and that you have been homeschooled. There is something you need to find out, and this is very important. Is your home school instructor certified? I'm assuming it is your mother who is homeschooling you. The reason I bring this up is there was another young man who was homeschooled his whole life, and he too was raised in a JW home. He decided that he wanted to go to college, and it was at that point he learned his mother never got herself certified, and his home school graduation diploma (or whatever it is called) was no good. If you find out that is the case talk to your biological father, and get his help in the matter.

Also, at 16 you have a right to decide which parent you want to live with.

Who is your favorite Star Wars character?

the sw extended universe is a big space.. there are lots of characters in the extended universe that i know little or nothing about - i may have only heard their names.. so if you could pick just one character, which one is your favourite?.

This won't stop the JW's, it will just prove in their minds that they are correct, and make them more determined. It might even cause a few who weren't thinking about becoming one, that hey they are being persecuted, only to make their words stronger. It would be much better to prove to them that what they believe in is wrong. There is a saying you can collect more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.

Never in my wildest dream would I ever see one of those dog gone carts

i moved to where i'm currently living for 10 years now.

once in a while, i would have jws come to my door and every single time either i or my husband would send them on their merry way, although my husband is quite rude about it.

i'm not sure when the cart witnessing (or whatever it is called) started up, but the only time i ever heard about it was on the internet, or someone here talking about it.

I do the same thing, Betheliesalot, whenever and where ever I see them. One time while I was out walking, some odd reason I decided to take a detour and found a city bus stop, this location is also at a University parking lot. I decided to sit down for a bit to take a rest when I noticed a huge selection of Watchtower and Awakes. I ended up filling up two trash cans with the amount of trash (those magazines) that was left there. Too bad there was not a recycle bin there instead, would much rather the paper been recycled instead of filling up the garbage dump.

Is The Person Who Helped You “Get Into The Truth” Still Around?

i helped, unfortunately, many people to become baptized jws.

recently, over the last few years, i saw many of my students who were still “ in the truth “ lament that i was no longer associating or active in the faith.. i do feel bad that i did such a good job that most of them still are in the cult.. are your teachers still around or did they wise up and leave the lord’s organization?

I'm not sure, but if she is still alive, she would still be a JW. She told the Watchtower 1975 lie to my mom, and thus dragged me along for the ride. She is a distant cousin on my mother's side of the family. If she is still alive she would probably be in her early 90's. All her son's (3) and her son-in-law are all elders (or was when I was still a JW) in different congregations in different states in the US.

Waking up can be a scary time

as a person that has recently come to terms with the reality that the truth is not really the truth .

does anyone else remember the feeling when they realized things were just not true.

it’s wierd all the years i spent preaching i never really considered what it must have felt like to have two people at your door trying to convince you that your religion of birth was a lie.

I remember waking up, and the feeling that went with it. I remember having a whole lot of questions, and I did find some wonderful people who answered them all. At first, there was quite a bit of fear of losing my family, who would eventually shun me, and their reactions, which were not very nice. But it was also the very first time that I was able to forgive myself for things that I was damming myself over, nothing serious, just minor little things that I just could never let go of. Once I came to the realization that the Watchtower was nothing but false teaching, it was like a ten-ton weight came off my shoulders. When a person finally realizes that the Watchtower's "Armageddon" will never happen, it does wonders for one's mental well being.

When You Were A JW Did You Really Understand The Religion and What You Were Getting Into?

many witnesses in my opinion know nothing about the religion.

they don’t understand the history, the doctrines or the bible.

many people become jws because they were raised as witnesses so they take the plunge.

I was only 4 when mom joined, and the whole time growing up she convinced me it was the truth, got baptized at 17. At 32, I decided to really dig into it and finally saw for myself what I really got myself into. So my answer is, I did NOT know what I was getting involved with until after they caused damage to my life.

I did a really good job typing this with one hand while holding a very active baby in the other arm.

On Friday I took my son to the airport, and at first nothing, but on my way out about a half an hour later, I saw two of those doggone Watchtower carts, and there were two people standing behind them (a man and a woman). It was almost like they were embarrassed to be seen by them. They looked as if they were trying to hide behind them, with their faces averted away. If your wondering none of the JWs in my area even know that I use to be one, and I want to keep it that way. When I got home, I told my husband about it, and he really wished that he was there. He is dying to give them another what for, and much to my relief that he was not.

DA/DF Difference?

evening again.... i know this is my second part today but i've just been thinking.... possibly a stupid question, so don't laugh haha!.

can someone explain the difference between disassociation and disfellowshipping?.

never really heard of disassociation before if i'm totally honest!.

The problem with trying to fade out is that some people just won't allow it. So I tip my hat to those who managed to pull this one off.

Shunning Hath Begunith

my spouse assumed that being honest would feel liberating.

appointments were made with pimi parents to let them know of the decision to no longer be a jw.

before the tall nonfat latte at starbucks was half drunk and after her parents asked several direct questions, they stood up, hugged her and said "well this is goodbye, return to jehovah and we'll pick up right where we left off, we love you," and walked out the door.

It is just going to take time, and keep doing what you are doing, just be there for her. My husband and I left it together, although he was just waiting for me to wake up to the whole thing, which I did. There will be days, even when you think it is all behind you, that will creep up and just mess with her head. I've been out since 2001, and even to this day it sometimes happens, especially when something comes up involving the relatives.

We both raised in it since we were 4 years of age, and both of our families are still very much involved with the Watchtower. Fortunately for my husband and I, we left it when our boys were only 4 and 6 years old, and they are living very full lives without any of the JW influences. One is in his third year of college with a very lovely girlfriend whom he is very serious about, and the other married with a baby.
