What changes would stabilize JW membership?

i've seen many topics about how things are changing or might be changing in jw doctrine/culture.

some have extrapolated how those changes would result in declining jw membership.

i'm curious to know what changes others think would stabilize those numbers.

I would say stop the shunning would be number one. I know they say their reason for shunning is to "protect" their members, but it does more harm ~~than~~ ~~good~~, strike that. It does no good. Someone once said a long time ago on this site, that studies have shown that shunning is the worst thing that can be done to a person's mental well-being. I don't remember what all they said, but that was a just of it.

But then again those people, at least my relatives who are JWs, are the most TOXIC people on the face of the earth. So in a way shunning does do some good, it keeps those people the out of my life and stops them from playing their mind games on me and my children.

To tell you the truth, I DO NOT want them to change, I want my JW relatives to see them for what they really are. And the only way that will ever happen is if that cult dies out in a very pitiful way, aka a whole lot more members leaving than coming in. Less money coming in, aka donations, and more money going out on lawsuits, and the truth of what they really are.

WATCHTOWER Is Trying To Put Cameras In All of Their Kingdom Halls

one of my best friends is in the security business.

he told me the other day of how the watch tower has been in contact with his good friend and business associate.

evidently they are inquiring about putting cameras into every kh so that they can do 24 hour monitoring.

I can think of two reasons why cameras would be installed. The first would be security purposes, and the only time anything would be viewed would be if a crime happened. The second would be to record the speaker giving the talk, and other meeting-related stuff. Then they would have it connected up to the internet, so those that are unable to physically attend would be able to watch from another location. Then I would think that this could give them an opportunity to close down more kingdom halls.

Just a thought

if the society was right and armageddon came a knocking would you want to live in a society run by the org and bully elders.. would rather die at armageddon.

I remember a few years back I had gotten into a very short argument with a JW about Armageddon and the New System of things. It went basically like this;

The JW was saying that those who survive Armageddon will get to live forever in a beautiful paradise on earth. He kept going on and on about this, and finally, I spoke up and told him;

"Thank you, but no thanks. But if you guys are correct, then it won't be a paradise on earth, simply because you would still have to follow the rules to a bunch of fools who don't know what in the H E double hockey sticks do they ever know what they are talking about. The survivors in the new system would be considered the slave class, and that means the survivors would be nothing but a bunch of slaves. That does not sound like anything fun or enjoyable to me, I'd rather be bird food." Also, I asked him to show me in the bible where it says that great crowd before the throne in Revelation actually say this takes place on earth? It doesn't.

That was the end of that argument.

JW's Would Stay With The Org Even If 1914 Was Dropped

From my own personal experience, when I left the JWs, I had first sent a letter informing them of my decision to leave the JWs, and why. A few days after I had sent them off, a couple of elders came to my door, making sure I was the one who actually sent them the letter. After I told them yes it was me, they asked me why, because in their eyes this happened totally out of the blue, you see I was in good standings with the organization.

I brought up the scripture in Deuteronomy 18:15-22, where it talks about false prophets. I told them that my mother became a witness in 1974 on the sole promise that she would once again be reunited with my older sister who had just passed away. My sister was only 5 years old when she died. I said 1975 came and gone, and that it was now 2001, I brought up a few other points as well.

Their only response to me was not to convenience me to stay, but all they said to me was "It's true what you said." That was the last I ever heard from them.

Even if what I said wasn't about 1914, the same holds true. People do leave when the Watchtower does this yo-yo stuff with the dates they have claimed up in the past.

Taking children out on the ministry

can i ask your views on taking children out on the ministry?

do you have any experiences you can share of things you as a child/your children/grandchildren have witnessed on the ministry that they shouldn't have?.

I remember JWs taking their little ones out in field service, and 9 times out of 10 they didn't want to be there. There was one little boy that I still remember to this day. He was something else, the poor kid had some kind of attention deficit disorder. What made matters worse was his mother was a regular auxiliary pioneer, at the time it was a requirement for her to put in 30 hours a month. This kid was all over the place, and very loud. One day I decided to try something with him, and that was I brought with me an art pad and colored pencils, and that done the trick. It was enough to keep him occupied.

Then a few years later after my sister had her baby out in FS as well, she's still a die-hard JW today. The problem was it was the hottest part of the summer, and she had her infant out in the extreme heat.

Even though I didn't leave the JWs until my eldest was around 5 years, I remember only taking him out a couple of times, and the weather was fairly mild. When they were little I was not what you would call regular in my attendance, and going out in the field ministry was not high on my priority list.

just had to share this, tonight we had a heated conversation about the religion.

she said everything they teach is 100% true and any mistakes are cleaned up and corrected, that the payouts for the child abuse is not an issue even if its taken from donations.

because, she believe 100% the org knows what its doing.

Sorry to hear this. She sounds just like my mom. On my last conversation with my mom, I asked her what if you found out that the JWs is not the true religion? Her response to me was, "I invested too much of my life to ever walk away."

Ideas on covering id online?

guys, ive wanted for long to start to express my thoughts about what i learned about the org and the bible altogether but i'm a pimo.

what suggestions do you have for me?

i don't want to "get caught" for sharing "apostasy" and i think running a page on facebook or instagram is too easy for anyone to track me down.

A second Facebook page would work, if you do, just make sure you create an e-mail just especially for it and use an assumed name. I do this, not for religious purposes, but the other is just to keep certain people from seeing what I have up.

a drive..

its sunday am and i suggest we go for a drive.

why i do not know as we have no conversation no banter at all.. so we did and had coffee.

while we were doing so and looking at the scenery i realized she was humming wt songs to herself.

I wouldn't hold it against her too much. Sometimes those songs just get stuck in your head. I left the JWs back in 2001, and even to this day every so often I'll be humming to myself. I'll be thinking what tune is this, and then I remember....OMG, Then I'll quickly turn on some music or start thinking about some other tune like happy birthday or wish you a merry Christmas, anything just to get that horrible tune out of my head.

My Mom's Challenge to Me

so my jw mom messages me on facebook last night and says she wants me, for a month, to read the bible, but first pray using the name jehovah and in jesus name and then read it with an open mind.

she is so ridiculous!

first of all, i do pray but i usually just say father and i always pray in jesus name and i find it ironic that she is saying i should have an open mind when hers is closed.

I remember my mom would tell me the exact same thing. The funny thing that happened was when did I read it with an "open mind" I discovered that the JW love to take quite a few scriptures out of context to fit their teachings. When I would read the scriptures before and after, some of their favorite saying "see this proves our point", by reading the whole section it did the total opposite. When I pointed this out to her, It was like taking a rubber ball and bouncing it off of a brick wall, she just didn't get it or choose not to.

I Wouldn’t Be Surprised If The USA Had Another Civil War!

I highly doubt there will ever be another Civil War in the United States. Simply because back then it was the one whole part of the country divided up against the other part of the country. Now between the different groups that clash all mixed up with each other, meaning they all live in the same communities. Personally, I don't believe a lot of the hype you see in the world news, because those are a small majority of the overall population, and I feel that a large portion of that is financially backed by people who do want to bring down the United States.

Personally, all I ever see in my everyday life is people doing what they normally do, that is going to school, work, church, and gatherings such as Bike, Blues, and BBQ, to name a few things. All I hear about on my local news are things that can easily be proven in person, and that for sure is nothing like you hear on the world news. Yes, I do see people who do want change, and they do so by being peaceful about it. I'm talking about changes in the LBT community, and we have a fairly decent population where l Iive. Also, there are the Christians and the opposing viewpoints between the two groups. Not once have I ever seen in person the chaos that you hear on the news. My community does have quite a few both of the Liberals and the Conservatives, and not once have I seen those two groups go at it as you see in the news, and oh yes, I have also seen the Black Lives Movement as well, but not once have I seen in my area any of those groups ever get violent.
