  do i know anything for certain?yes!when so-called "authority" predict the future - they are wrong.and yet - we always believe them.

  2912 mayan calendar apocalypse1910 : halley's cometa worldwide panic ensued, stoked by the media and such newspaper headlines as “comet may kill all earth life, says scientist.”1831 the great disappointmentwilliam miller began preaching in 1831 that the end of the world as we know it would occur with the second coming of jesus christ in 1843. he attracted as many as 100,000 followers who believed that they would be carried off to heaven when the date arrived.

  Doctor Who: I don't deny climate change. What I deny is the influence man has on it.

  How do we know climate change is real and that much of it is due to human activities? That's a great question. As a science teacher, I would encourage you to examine the evidence, of which there is plenty (NASA: "Climate Change: How Do We Know?").

  Interesting thread, Terry.

  People are often wrong. That is why scientific methods are so important; they are inherently self-correcting.

  Peer review is an essential part of the process, unlike say religious proclamations and edicts which are not allowed to be questioned.

  Except Trump has been impeached.

  The US House of Representatives has the sole authority to impeach a sitting President and they did that on December 18, 2019, when the House of Representatives approved articles of impeachment on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

  The US Senate then holds the trial and has the sole authority to acquit or convict, which of course has not yet occurred.

  I understand that the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is holding on to those articles of impeachment and has not officially sent them to the Senate as she and McConnell engage in a game of political one-upsmanship, but that does not negate the fact that Donald J. Trump has been impeached.

  Do You Think “Higher Education “Is All That??

  as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.

  i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.

  it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

  Reading through the comments on this thread has been quite "educational."
  

  As a professional educator*, I have a few questions for those of you that have a skeptical and/or negative view of higher education:

  • What do you think a good, basic, foundational education should include?
  • What specific subjects, skills and content knowledge should be included? In other words, what exactly should young people know and be able to do upon completion of their basic education?
    
  • Should this basic education be compulsory?
  • At what age should students finish or be able to opt-out?
