i wish everyone at jwd a very merry christmas.. share it with someone you love.. try to be peaceable with your fellow humans.. make time for others.. and have a wonderful 2002. soon enough, you know will be back in october to tell us our doom!

My 2001 Top Ten List of Movies
by Seeker inok, folks, the year is almost up, and it's time for the critics to post their list of the ten best movies of the year.
since this is subjective, everyone's list is unique, and here is my list.
feel free to comment with your own selections, or even disagreements with my choices, though i'm not so much interesting in arguing the worth of a given movie as i am in seeing what the consensus for the best movies is.. i can't think of ten really great movies this year, but i can easily come up with the 5 best, in ascending order to number 1:.

Why conservative Christians are disliked
by Seeker in(ap) "the proliferation of interfaith services after terrorists struck america have unsettled some conservative protestants, who feel joint worship violates their belief that christianity is the only true faith.. in one case, the rev.
david oberdieck filed charges with the lutheran church-missouri synod over a fellow pastor who joined non-christian clergy in the sept. 23 yankee stadium service, ``a prayer for america.''.
``i wouldn't have brought charges if jesus christ was confessed in such a way that he stood out from the smorgasbord of gods,'' said oberdieck, pastor of trinity lutheran church in lebanon, mo.

Will they turn on religions soon?
by Seeker ini was talking with a jw a few days ago, and he said that current events (natch) convinced him more than ever that soon the nations will turn on religion, and the great tribulation will begin.
he said that the current hatred felt toward islamic extremists, plus columnists pointing out christian extremists (i.e.
abortion clinic bombers) are also dangerous, mean that soon the tide will turn and all religion will be viewed as bad.. i responded that although extremists are hated, i've been amazed at how carefully the governments have differentiated between extremists and muslims in general.

Overweight JWs -- on the increase?
by Seeker inyes, i know, the title is a pun.
it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.
in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.

The Supreme Court case is very narrow in scope
by Seeker innote this excerpt from one account of the u.s. supreme court deciding to hear this ohio case involving jws:.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/a63859-2001oct15.html.
the supreme court, however, has agreed to review one particular aspect of the case: the provision of the town's permit requirement that says jehovah's witnesses or other door-to-door canvassers must display their permits, which bear their names, on demand.. in siding with stratton, the cincinnati-based 6th u.s. circuit court of appeals noted that "individuals going door-to-door .

What is significant about 9/11?
by Seeker inmany jws have become excited by the events of 9/11 in the u.s., thinking that this is a definite sign of the imminent end of the system.
we have seen online jws talking about how these awful events were "prophecied in the bible" and how this is proof that armageddon is near.
we have heard reports of local jws saying the same things, including many of our family members.
