I will never forget Kent, in insult-festive rare form, shouting at a poster, "CAN YOU SPELL LOOSER?"

    It was a Kodak moment.

Actually, I think it is genetic. Sparrows can't spell either.

I reasoned once--WOW--that one reason language changes is that people fail to use it properly. A word can go from vulgar, to slang, to colloquial, to formal, it seems.

I hate it when people say, "Lie Berry." I sometimes look astonished and reply, "Is that something like a blueberry. [library]

Or perhaps like the word "inner net," I inquire, "Is that like the "inner ear." [internet]

In all honesty, it's easy to see how one can make these mistakes with the English language being so inconsistent. Let's face it, with all of the borrowing that English did, spelling in English is mostly a memory game. And if your memory fails you, as mine often does...uh, what was I saying? Oh yeah, if the memory goes, so will your spelling. Why are the words dose and lose spelled the same but not pronounced the same way? And why can't you use 'losor' when it is perfectly acceptable to use either advisor or adviser?

    LOl@COmf,
I remember that Kodak moment priceless!

I am the typo queen And I can't spell worth hill of beans...wait I just did! I have actually found a friend in dictionary.com though. It takes a bit more time, but well worth it. There is nothing like seeing a great post and it is over run with spelling errors, especially if a word is used more that once. Most recent in memory someone used "thier" instead of "their" and mispelled it over 6 times in one post

    Get Atomica, Wendy. http://www.atomica.com/

Install the software, then go to preferences and uncheck "Enable the answerbar." The answerbar just gets in the way. When you want to get the definition of a word or check its spelling, just hold down the Alt key and click on the word. Atomica will do the rest. I've had it for a couple of years now, and still use it every day.

Sorry, but I've seen this so much in this forum, other forums, everywhere, that I'm afraid it's going to infect the dictionary soon from general misuse. Drives me nuts!

    It's an all-American conspiracy. See:

I understand your concern, Seeker. Spelling and grammer mistakes aren't a problem per say, there occurrence is completely normal as most people just aren't compatabile with written language. But its an infectious phenomena, and it's future implications could be dramatic. It should be considered worse then apostacy. Maybe their should be counciling for victims of other's bad spelling, like me.

    You got it right, Seeker.
I can understand typos but the spelling here is atrocious. Bad spelling is just being lazy, too lazy to use a dictionary.
