Dear Spelling Fairy,
Thank you for all you do. When you are sad over peoples' misspellings, imagine me with my arm around your shoulder, reassuringly saying, "There, their, they're."
atheists are people who are "a-" (without) "theism" (a belief in god).
they are not "athiests"; they are not "athier" than everyone else, nor is "athy" a word.. .
this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but it's a mistake i see every day on here and i thought it might be nice to have a topic we can bump just to periodically remind people of the proper spelling, especially since they are sometimes referring to their very own beliefs.

greetings, all those still searching, still wondering .
.. in one of many faith-related books i have read, i recall the author declaring that there's a difference between what we know and what we believe.
while i cannot recall the author nor his commentary, i acknowledge that, while i do know ttatt and that the bible in not without error, yet there's a part of me deep inside that holds onto the so-called spiritual.. how is it for you personally as you make the transition from the invisible to the visible?
Hello CoCo
I recently read a book called "A Manual for Creating Atheists" by Peter Boghossian.
He describes faith-based beliefs as "pretending to know things you don't know" especially when those faith-based beliefs lack evidence to support them.
If certain beliefs pass muster - if they can be empirically proven - then they are worthy of our belief. If they can't be proven, then they belong "at the kiddy table" (along with the individuals who insist on claiming such as truth when they are really pretending to know things they don't know).

the congregation secretary should arrange for this letter to be retained in the congregation permanent file of policy letters.
Why are the letterhead and signature in Italian, while the rest of the letter is in English?
Is this information valid only to Congregations™ under the Branch Office™ in Rome?
(Or could it be a nudge-wink-know-what-I-mean reference to the Vatican...?)
Hearing that Armageddon™ Is Just Around the Corner™ for much of my youth created a strange dichotomy in decision making. People were putting off decisions that could better their lives - their futures - indefinitely, such as getting a good education and a solid career, buying a house, preparing for retirement, etc. At the same time, they were quitting school, jumping head first into marriages and having families, which created a bigger long-term financial burden, keeping them stuck in dead-end jobs with very few prospects of improving their lot in life.
No wonder they want/need to have Armageddon™ be right around the corner - it will put them out of their current misery, whether they survive it or not. They're hoping to survive so they can enjoy the Paradise™ they were promised, but there are no guarantees....
a witness couple just called on me.
they know i have'nt been to the hall for a few months but have no idea that i am "off reservation" in more ways than one.. they called by to tell me they that due to the "unloving spirit" in our.
congregation they will be going to another hall from now on.. the husband has been having ongoing "issues" with the cobe for some time ( iow,he hates his guts).. they feel that if they move to another cong where the people are nicer everything will be ok. (yeah, right).
I've known people who do this too.
They move from one congregation to another, hoping to find that elusive Congregation™ that will provide the ultimate experience in Christian Love™, fellowship and opportunities for spiritual growth.
They always end up disappointed, because they are looking outside themselves and counting on others to fulfill their fantasy experience. They'll only ever find the peace and contentment they're looking for by looking inward... inside themselves.
a loud get well grace from all of us to you.
