by nicolaou ina woman has been shot dead by a 2-year-old in a wal-mart store in idaho.. .
the 29-year-old was shopping with four children in the store in hayden, when the two-year-old reached into her handbag and fired the weapon, shooting her dead.. initial reports suggested the woman was the boy's mother, but the police have said that this is as yet unclear how they are related.. source; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/toddler-accidentally-shoots-woman-in-idaho-walmart-9950847.html.

@little_Socrates: you never hear about it because it never happens! If it did, Fox News would be talking about it for weeks on end. But, I do agree with you that laws are not the answer. Something is fundamentally wrong with the culture. -

Nice way to frame the issue Simon! I haven't been in the states for several years, but my first thought was: what kind of country has it become where people feel it is normal to be armed when going shopping? Here in Poland, besides criminals, only military, police or hunters have weapons. I could get one if I went thru the required training, screening, paperwork, etc - but I don't feel the need. Death by guns here is orders of magnitudes different than in the US (for some reason) and 30% of the ones we have are suicide related.
When I go to Tesco (Walmart equivalent) to buy some dog food, the last thing on my mind is: where is my heat?

If Your JW Parent Died Would YOU Go To The Kingdom Hall For The Talk?
by minimus ini would like your thoughts, please..

My wife and I already solved this issue (for our childern) after her mother's funeral talk (infomercial) at the KH. We have both made it known (verbal and legal) that we do not want any type of service, anywhere. Cremation is expected. No talks, least costs, get on with your lives. But, a drink and a toast is expected some time after the fact.

I don't recall from your previous threads if you are still living at home or attending school somewhere else. While living at home has some benefits, if you are going to school somewhere else (even nearby) you are in a good position. First, attend a meeting or two at the 'away' cong. Maybe even go out in service once (if you can handle it). Tell them that you are travelling quite a bit, to be back home as often as possible to help your family, so they shouldn't be suprised not to see you all the time. The 'home' congregation will assume you are away. When you are back home, attend a meeting and drop a few names from the 'away' cong, especially important if someone on the 'home' team knows someone on the 'away' team. They will check.
Then, stop going all together. I got away with this for over a year. It was a great chance for me to get my head in 'better' place.
If you are still dependent on your parent's support, you will need to play a different game. But it can be done. Don't give up. Your life (the rest of it) depends on it. Hang in there. You are doing well...

If you are still in and looking for a hot partner, please come to Poland. Probally the same in other eastern European countries. I was always amazed when I went to circuit/district assemblies to see such hot babes walking around with guys that would never have a chance to get laid in the US. Of course if he was a MS that was just a bonus. I am not kidding you, totally mind blowing. Might be a good recruitment tool/advertisement to get 'unloved' brothers to go where the need is great.
Perhaps Jw.org could start a dating service.

Not on JW.ORG: Jehovahs Witness leaves Bethel gets PHD, and becomes....Catholic..??

Depending on your circumstances, it might not be a bad idea (becoming a Catholic). Where I live now (Poland) the vast majority of the population is Catholic but practicing at whatever level is comfortable for them. But, it is an extremely important part of the community, especially in the smalll towns and villages. In the bigger cities you can do what you want, no problem. I might consider it for social reasons, but that is all. And the funny thing is, that wouldn't be a problem!

I feel really bad for my mother (never a JW) looking back at all those years I deprived her of the complete package for Christmas. Sure she had my sisters and their families over for the occasion, but I know it had to hurt that I wasn't there with my family. No way to get back that time. To her credit, she never turned her back on me and has always been there when I needed her. So now that I'm out, I'm trying to finally be the son she never really had. Unfortunately, I'm 57 and she is in her 70's, so we don't don't have a lot of time left to make up for lost togetherness.
Maybe that can be my goal for next year: save up to get back to the states for a family Christmas. We would all probably have a good cry. Damn....

UBER-WITNESS: THE ELITE FORCE . . . a study in how a fanatic is created
by Terry inat what point in the average person's life does he/she reach a crossroads between purposeful pursuit of a life's goal and mad fanaticism?.
we have all known these automatons; these uber-witnesses.. we might even have been one ourselves!.
the uber-witness can make an excuse for any watchtower mistake at the crack of a whip!.

@Terry:
Males can aspire to be a BIG fish in the small pond of the Kingdom Hall with noblesse oblige the order of the day.
That wasn't my desire at all. Even though I was much more qualified than 99% of the elders I ever met, I had no desire to be in their shoes. I was perfectly happy to help out with the more mundane things. I think I just needed some structure in my life. Probably would have been better to be in the military.

@LV101: even with the strips, it still seems that I need to wear it for at least 20 minutes before declaring it 'safe'. I tried a lot of stuff travelling, initially good, but later not. I'm not allergic to anything that I know of and quite tolerant of others fragrances, but it seems I can only tolerate a few on myself.
