according to the last paragraph of the article entitled "escape from slavery—then and now" (wt#2, 2017).
jehovah god felt grieved by the harsh treatment of israelite slaves in egypt; he must feel the same way about similar injustice today.. .
if you call modern slavery "injustice", wasn't the slavery during moses time also "injustice"?
Read the article carefully and note the OP above. The subject was not slavery but only the "harsh treatment" of slaves. Then in typical Watchtower fashion the bait-and-switch takes place and the subject is now injustice.
any elder has never asked me that question so far but i want to be prepared to answer that question if any of them ask me that question in the future.
i hope that they will never ask me that question.
any suggestions on how to answer that question would be very much appreciated.
Are you asking me to join you in some apostate rebellion? Because I'm not interested.
if jws want to inflict shunning on members who want to remain -- knock yourselves out.
but if someone wants to leave - dont believe in an evil almighty god, bible ...or just dont agree with the rules- they should be free to leave- even after being 'disfellowshipped'.
i think it was pre 1980 that you could disassociate yourself without shunning repercussions.
The governing body and the Watchtower corporation argue that shunning is a scriptural requirement and a law of jehovah god.
This requirement of shunning applies equally to all who follow the bible or who are willing to recognize the religious freedom of jehovah's witnesses. Therefore all christians are permitted to shun jehovah's witnesses based on their own self-interpretation.
If shunning is a law in the bible then it applies to all, equally and fairly with no distinction.
If the prohibition on fornication is a law in the bible then it applies to all, equally and fairly with no destinction.
Consider: two humans have a dispute. They have the legal right to bring the dispute before the judicial authorities and courts for judgment. Do they also have the Divine Right to bring their dispute before jehovah god - or his representatives (governing body and their agents the judicial elders) - considering his kingdom is apparantly ruling? If they do not have this right to receive a judgment from jehovah god then neither does jehovah god have the right to judge them under any circumstance ... ever!
The nation of Israel was given the free choice of adopting god's laws, including the 10 commandments, when they were before Mt Sinai. They chose yes. Today mankind has been given no choice as to whether they accept god's laws. This is arbitrary with no freedom to chose. Therefore god's laws are null and void as theh have never been offerred and accepted.
If the laws of the bible, and the rendering of biblical justice, only apply to christians who are jehovah's witnesses then the laws, including fornication and the judgment associated with it, only applies to jehovah's witnesses. The world cannot be judged.
All jehovah's witnesses have the right to shun members as a disciplinary action. However, once the member is no longer a member the right to shun ceases. At that point it becomes the victimization and targetting of a former member or member of the community.
just doing research and came across this.. i know this is old however.
here we have a worldly organisation distributing pamphlets and warning parents about child abuse.. last point in particular.
3) inform the child that what happened is against the law and that it is necessary to report it to the police so that it will not happen again.. pretty straight forward if you ask me.. watchtower were happy to use that in their magazine.
This is damage control by the Watchtower. Pause for a moment and think about the reality. The Watchtower and the GB have just learnt that the Mexican government is about to give a pamphlet to all JW parents instructing them to report child abuse to the police. They are not being told to report it to the elders and to let them handle it.
Simply put, the Watchtower and GB have no control so they are literally jumping on the bandwagon.
i am not a jehovah's witness, although i do respect your religion entirely.
i am 27 years old, and live in minnesota.
i have an older cousin, who's mother (not with my uncle -separated when my cousin was a baby) had been a witness, grew up in your word, and about 12 years ago she fully converted.
MNLifeAgent: Your "research" is unfounded and based on an assumption the members of the JWs are similar to members of other religions but have better morals/habits which equals better health.
An insurance company would never consider JWs a good choice. Why?
The typical JW lacks any form of higher education (i.e. university or college) as this is discouraged. Therefore they typically hold menial jobs such as window washing, cleaning and laboring. (No offence meant to anyone in those industries, unless you are a JW.)
http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/higher-education-university.php
Reasearch for yourself the link between higher education and life expectancy in the USA and you will find that those with higher education live on average 8 years longer than those who don't. This means JWs die 8 years earlier than members in comparative religions.
For JWs - your god jehovah always knew that you would die earlier because of your lack of education. This also means your service to the Watchtower will be on average 8 years less than if you received higher education. 8 years less preaching. 8 years less donations to the Watchtower coupled with lower donations because of lower average salary.

On the other hand the world doesn't have to put up with your nonsense more than they should. 8 years less. Actually, come to think of it, we should all thank jehovah god that JWs are less educated. 8 years worth of thanks.
Here are some links which compare life expectancy:

Interesting that the Catholic Commission set up to address this matter was made up a balance of men and women.

jws will deny that local needs parts are often just a way to mark those in the congregation who are deemed to be "bad association" or who don't fall in line with the elders viewpoints.
now, for the first time in a long time the wt discusses their marking policy and how it works in the nov study wt:.
recall paul’s counsel regarding disorderly ones in the congregation.
The key point and who the article is actually addressed to . . .
"If you are aware of the situation described in the talk, will you take care to avoid socializing with such an individual?"
So what about members of the congregation who are not "aware of the situation" and therefore will continue to socialize with such an individual?
Once again the Watchtower decides not to inform those in the congregation who need to know.

How Jehovah's Witnesses leaders hide child abuse secrets at all costs

The leadership of the Jehovah’s Witnesses has boldly defied court orders to turn over the names and whereabouts of alleged child sexual abusers across the United States.
Since 2014, courts have slapped the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ parent corporation – the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York – with multimillion-dollar judgments and sanctions for violating orders to hand over secret documents.
The documents could serve as a road map to what are likely thousands of alleged child abusers living freely in communities across the country, who still could be abusing kids. The files include the names of known and suspected perpetrators, the locations of their congregations and descriptions of their alleged crimes.
“I’ve been practicing law for 37 years, and I’ve never seen anything like it,” said attorney Irwin Zalkin, who represents victims of sexual abuse by Jehovah’s Witnesses. “They do everything to protect the reputation of the organization over the safety of children" . . .
