Special Dub Words That Make You Go YUK!

for me, the word was "loving".. great "loving" kindness.. great undeserved "loving" kindness!.

disfellowshipping is a "loving" provision.. when the wtbts want their accolytes to swallow another bitter pill, another restriction, another rebuke, another demand on time, the buzz word is "loving".. the "loving" word, is, to the average jw, the same as the mccabe nod is to the salesman.

the mccabe nod is used by salesman all the time to get the prospective customer to agree to something that he doesn't care for too much.

"Similarly"--the WT reader consistently pronounced it, "sim-uh-LAIR-lee", used to drive me INSANE...

"ones"--as in "discouraged ONES", "interested ONES", "such ONES", GOD I HATE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!

"birth canal" and "male organ"--does anyone remember those articles (really old) titled 'A Father Talks to His Sons' & 'A Mother Talks to Her Daughters".

and who could forget "Rendering the wife her due" (or some such shit, I forget the exact phrase)? ARRRRRRRGHHHHHH!!!!!

For those who grew up a JW . . .

does it ever surprise you when you see people that you grew up with as a jw and they're still witnesses?

i went to school with a lot of those jw kids my age and i can't believe that they continue to be jws when they are free of their parents.. i want to say," you're an adult with a high school education or a ged!

My sisters and I grew up VERY STRICTLY in the JW's...my dad's been an elder ever since I can remember.

I gradually stopped attending so many meetings during my last years at home (having a job provided a GREAT excuse). It's funny now, remembering how I immediately ceased attending once I moved out; I think I attended 2 meetings before stopping completely. At the time I didn't know any other religion but JW. I still sounded like a brainwashed fool whenever someone asked why we believed this or that, but believe me, I was living free and wild!!! The UTTER FREEDOM after being restricted in every way imaginable....

Almost all the JW kids I grew up with are not in it anymore. In fact, my youngest sister is the only one left. She's married at 19 to a "brother" she hardly knows, living almost penniless, literally DOES NOT KNOW how to pay a bill, wash laundry, cook or otherwise take care of herself.

Most of the others left while we were still involved. A few committed suicide.

it's been a strong desire of mine for the 20 some odd years since i've beeb df'd.. what do you guys think?

should i go this year and make everyone's jaw drop??

If you know the congregation where you'll be attending, try to sit as near to the most fanatical (oops, I meant "zealous") OR the nosiest, busy-bodiest brother/sister as you can. Guzzle in their line of vision.

Then, let me know how it went so I can fall out laughing!!!

Hello To All

as you can tell, i am another newbie, so i thought i would introduce myself.

i have been quietly reading the posts for some time now and thought it time to join in.. i am a 53 year old grandpa (neither daughter or their husbands are jw) married to jw woman with three kids, ages 15, 16, 17. therein lies the source of my discourgement and subsequent disassociation from the jws.

i outlined my involvement with the jws in my profile, if any are interested.

The way to justify a JW

i had gotten a few minutes to myself this morning and i was looking through some old photo albums of my family and such.

i couldnt help but think to myself "what a waste.

" i have family members and friends who are so talented and so gifted in many ways that i am not, yet they choose to remain witnesses.. even the small handfull that know its all a lie, still choose to remain that way.

I know what you mean. Almost all my dad's siblings (12 in all) and a lot of the grandkids are gifted in painting/drawing. Yet, even the ones who're not presently JWs grew up as JWs, and never pursued their talents. Actually nobody in the family, including my sisters and myself, ever did.

Some of Dad's siblings feel guilty about not being in the org, and still feel they need to "get their lives together" and return. Even though they probably never will, they still feel that guilt.

I think people don't want to lose a chunk of family history

I agree here. Especially since my dad's folks were some of the first JWs in the area where he grew up (his grandfather was one of the "anointed").

I too, think sometimes, "What a waste....."

those two young american girl tennis players and supposed jw sisters have arrived down under again for this year's tilt at the australian open championship.

yes, the flamboyant venus and serena williams show is back in melbourne town.. after last year when sr venus triumphed at this event, i thought it would be hard for any jw sportsperson to top her ecstatic run around courtside with old glory.

or the way she stood so solemnly and proudly as her nation's national anthem got played after the big win.

Maybe they just "witness" to their staff/entourage and "count that as time."

So whatever happened to the 'quiet and mild spirit' or the 'chaste young virgins' young Jehovah's Witness girls are always being admonished about?

...Yet you can't help feeling sorry for all other rank 'n file young witnesses who are told to behave one way, while these two role models in reverse gallivant around the world doing exactly as they please.

diamond's thread inspired this idea... at least, this is how i wish my last talk had gone.. next on the school is brother hmmm.

his talk is based on the song of solomon, and his theme is: "be steadfast and faithful, like the shulamite maiden.. "throughout history, babylon the great, the world empire of false religion, has fornicated with the scarlet-colored wild beast.

they have traded support for the league of nations--and it's successor the united nations--for political clout and expediency in furthering their selfish goals.

Okay, tears of laughter rolling down my face at this one. I really hope this rumor is true. The thought of Master P blasting through the speakers of a KH.....

Must keep this away from my DF'd sister-she likes to do things like this.

Working with JWs

has anyone out there had experience of working for or with jws?.

is it just me, or are they the worst people to work with....they "use" anybody for their own ends, they expect everyone else to make allowances for their life style but are not prepared to make allowances for anyone else's, they do as little as they can for as long as they can and have absolutely no loyalty to their employers or fellow workers!!.

my recent experience is that they also will be "economical" with the truth (the real truth), as long as it benefits them.. maybe i'm a bit biased, but i would never want to work with or for another witness ever again!

The few JW's I worked with were so damned NOSY it wasn't even funny. Complete busybodies in everybody else's business--especially when I was still one of them. Always trying to keep an eyeball cocked on my every move.

Also, when I was one of them, they'd shop in the grocery store where I worked and actually expect me to give them the hook-up with discounted prices or free items slipped under the counter. I'd just look at 'em like they were crazy.

Also, the ones I worked with were total kiss-asses, always brownnosing the boss.
