i've been awake now for about 6 months i'd guess and a member here for a couple of weeks.
it's been eye opening to read other peoples experiences on here and i appreciate all of you.
i've noticed in many, seemingly most, of your comments that you were not treated well at your hall or you have had very negative experiences in the "org" so i thought i'd like to share mine.. in all my time as a jw i have to say for the most part i always loved the people.

Welcome to your freedom, I also have been lurking for some time and took the plunge 4 days ago on here. I am envious of your experiences with JW's and that it went well for you.
Sadly for me like so many others it was anything but. I will not go into detail here, but briefly as a MS, I was told by an elder that "...no MS tells me what to do", I uncovered an anomaly with the accounts to do with missing money, the elder made my life hell so that I had to move congregations. But it did not end there he made sure that a bad report was sent to my new congregation, the result no reappointment as I was deemed a bad influence on the congregation. They then proceeded to shun me, my family and friends for the next 20 years, in the end we all had enough and we are all out!
Our experience is by no means unique, I have heard of much worse in other congregations. So Freeandclear you have been very fortunate and I am pleased that you have not suffered the same as so many others.
At least now you have seen the light on new light.

First of all I may have given the impression that I was a girl because of the use of Pandora, but I am a guy.
Pandora’s Box was used as a means to illuminate all that is wrong with the ORG, and I thought it was cool and different.
It got me thinking, I wonder how many people might know the story of Pandora’s Box, so here goes.
Zeus, the King of the God’s hid fire from mankind.
Prometheus a Titan did not agree with this and so stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mankind. This so enraged Zeus that he ordered Hephaestus to create a beautiful woman in the image of a goddess out of revenge, she was to be a punishment for mankind. All the god’s gave her gifts, Hermes however, gave her a deceitful nature and the name Pandora (“Pan” meaning “All” and “Dora” meaning “Gifts”), because 'all her gifts' had been given her by the gods, showing her to be a parody of the only true Giver of All Gifts, who was Gaia, Mother Goddess Earth.
Pandora was given a box (“Pithos” originally a jar in earlier texts), she was instructed never to open the box. Zeus knew that Pandora was not malicious but was curious and that curiosity would eventually get the better of her. This of course was Zeus’s objective as he wanted mankind to suffer in order to understand that they should not disobey their god’s.
The box contained the evils of sicknesses by day and night, old age, harsh toil, death, but also hope. Pandora opened the box and all the evils poured out into the world but Zeus would not allow her to close it. But just as hope was about to come out, Zeus allowed Pandora to close the box, so trapping hope inside. Prior to the box being opened, mankind lived in peace from the sufferings now plaguing them.
This got me thinking of a slightly different application.
Zeus has been related to Satan the Devil, if so this creates some interesting connotations, Pandora could represent the ORG, after all the ORG has used such terms as mother, bride etc., it has had many gifts bestowed upon it, Holy Spirit, FDS etc. It too has its box, the NWT which interestingly has also dispensed many evils upon mankind, 1914, two witness rule with regards to child abuse, shunning, false predictions etc. Coincidentally it to has locked up hope just like Pandora’s Box, as a result many JW’s suffer more in the Truth than before they were converted.
Anyway, just some musings on why I chose pandorasbox1914.
i heard from a "friend" that a letter was read aloud during the midweek meeting asking people to volunteer to do cleaning work in bethel.

i really can't think of anything else to say if this is true.. they get more free labor, and they still ask for more more more money!!
It's funny how everything in the ORG is a privilege, and that includes cleaning. Yet when I did go to hall cleaning many years ago the outstanding thing that stood out was that no elder actually involved themselves in the privilege of cleaning. At most they might use the hoover or a bit of dusting, but generally it was only supervising. Another thing about the privilege of cleaning was that no one would clean the toilets, that was always left to my wife and her best friend.
It seems to me that cleaning is a privilege only for the R&F, it does not apply to those in charge.

I am also suffering from this problem, I am a new poster, I have posted some new topics and some replies, but the post I am trying to do now is continually stuck. I have tried posting it a number of times all with the same outcome, I have even tried changing it but that makes no difference either.
The first time I posted I wrote directly to the post form and of course it was lost, I have since written it on a word document so I at least have it saved. But it is becoming annoying, what am I doing wrong? How can I overcome this?
P.S. This has posted with no problems, very strange.

just heard of an experience that proves what i have thought all along about the unique type of love in the jdubya religion.. an elderly, handicapped jdubya acquaintance was traveling alone through the mid-west recently and found themselves stranded in denver, colorado due to dangerous road conditions.
not knowing anyone, and having no way to get from place to place on their own they made a number of phone calls.
finally they were able to get in contact with an oh so christian "sister" who had with her husband spent many decades in bethel.

In the congregation I attended (until last July), over a 20+ year period very few left the ORG, also during that time very few new converts (in fact I can only think of one family). There were of course deaths, families moving out of the area and new ones moving in, families having children and those children being baptized (often at a very young age).
I think JW's in general have invested so much of their life to the ORG that they either have no where else to go or it has become a habit.
An interesting word Habit, one definition is "something that you do often and regularly", clearly something that applies to most JW's. So how easy is it to break this habit?
HABIT
- Remove the “H” and you still have “ABIT” left.
- Remove the “A” there is still a “BIT” left.
- Remove the “B” and “IT” is still there.
- Remove the “I” and the “T” is left.
- Only by removing the "T" can you be free of the HABIT.
Another explanation for Habitual behavior is:
"Habitual behaviour is a form of automatic and routine behaviour. It is behaviour that people repeat, because this behaviour is easy, comfortable or rewarding. Habitual behaviour is demonstrated by the fact that it is often started by a cue or a change in the situation. It is efficient to do something by habit, and not to constantly reason with oneself about what is the best thing to do. The intrinsic advantages of the behaviour outweigh the possible disadvantages. ‘Intrinsic' because, in the case of habitual behaviour, there is no constant weighing of pros and cons".
So I believe, based on the foregoing, that there will be no mass exodus from the ORG of people in general because it is easier to be habitual rather than alternative. For many they have no where else to go, and then of course there is the old chestnut, "....even if the truth is wrong it is still the best way of life"

We all know the Watchtower's stance on Blood:
Just want to dwell on that last point for the moment, "Your bible trained conscience" we have all heard this many times over the years, but what does this mean?
Well it is their "Get out of jail free card" they cannot answer the point themselves so the onus is placed upon on us. But, and it is a big but, they are Christ's brothers, they are to receive immortality from Jehovah God when they finish their earthly course, they are the faithful and discreet slave that have bestowed upon them God's Holy Spirit.
Now what is interesting is that Holy Spirit gives them and them alone insight on the understanding of the deep things of God. Now this is odd as they do not know the answer to blood fractions despite their exulted position in God's Kingdom. Yet we who are considered less than their superior position have such understanding of the unknown position of God's word, that our Bible trained conscience can give us a definitive answer. The reality is I am not aware of anyone who honestly understands this position, for example they say I will accept this one and that one, but not this one or that one. On what professional medical decision do they base their conclusion on? Surely logic dictates that either all fractions are acceptable or none at all!
The other point I wanted to raise was that of the components, in particular plasma. So what is Plasma?
This is what the American Red Cross says:
Plasma is the liquid portion of blood – a protein-salt solution in which red and white blood cells and platelets are suspended. Plasma, which is 92 percent water, constitutes 55 percent of blood volume. Plasma contains albumin (the chief protein constituent), fibrinogen (responsible, in part, for the clotting of blood) and globulins (including antibodies). Plasma serves a variety of functions, from maintaining a satisfactory blood pressure and volume to supplying critical proteins for blood clotting and immunity. PlasmaIt also serves as the medium for exchange of vital minerals such as sodium and potassium and helps to maintain a proper pH (acid-base) balance in the body, which is critical to cell function. Plasma is obtained by separating the liquid portion of blood from the cells.
So Plasma is 92% water which effectively means water is one of the four major components of Blood, I am sure that the ORG would challenge this supposition. So lets assume then, that water is a fraction of Blood/Plasma, this could explain the ORG's flip-flop over Blood and fractions over the years. If water is a component of Blood they would effectively kill all JW's within days. However, if water is a fraction it can then be ignored by the ORG providing all fractions become a matter of choice for the person's "Bible trained conscience"
As a side note that phrase "Your bible trained conscience" to me is a coded expression, meaning that although the Bible is silent on the subject the Magnificent Seven clearly disagree with the transfusion of Blood, fractions and all the other procedures listed by the ORG.
Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter.
