Shameless self-promotion...
by rory-ks ini was hoping that there would be some discreet corner of this forum where members could post about their own little ventures - but there is none, so i'll just go down the route of brash, shameless self-promotion.. after the leaking of the judicial committee videos, which had a (some word i can't think of just yet) effect on me, and in the spirit of jeni lundblomvaldez's article over at aawa.co, ex-jws: stop respecting the watchtowers wishes, i have decided to start my own blog, the carpenter's arms.
the reason for the name will become apparent.. there is not much going on there at the moment - the doors have only just been thrown open - but feel free to come over and say hello.. .

Yay! Apostates are no longer "mentally diseased!"
by rory-ks inoriginal nwt reads: "if any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our lord jesus christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, he is puffed up [with pride], not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words.
from these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions...".
2013 revision reads: "if any man teaches another doctrine and does not agree with the wholesome instruction, which is from our lord jesus christ, nor with the teaching that is in harmony with godly devotion,he is puffed up with pride and does not understand anything.

by rory-ks inmicah 6:8 might be - or have been - a favourite verse of many.
the verse used to read:.
"he has told you, o earthling man, what is good.

Testify to ritual humiliation in the judicial process
by rory-ks inthose judicial committee videos are remarkable viewing.
(part 1, part 2) they can leave one in no doubt about the humiliating way that jehovah's witnesses treat their men.
i urge you to get hold of a copy.

"Deep down inside even they know it is BS." Discuss
by rory-ks innope, bungi bill's interesting statement from this post didn't take, so i'll start its own.. from my own experience, i hated the field ministry.
it might just be because of the kind of character i am, whatever, i never was able to overcome that feeling of dread every time i went door-to-door.
i felt aware of how much people disliked having strangers cold-calling trying to sell them something.

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

by rory-ks inso in the february 2014 study edition of the watchtower there is the article, rejoice over the marriage of the lamb.
in paragraph 6 it identifies the future bride as "the king's daughter.

WALL-E: Unplugging someone from the mainframe
by rory-ks in<a href ="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1bqpv-icku" rel =" nofollow ">...</a>.
there are many parallels that can be made.
i was particularly struck with, "try blue, it's the new red," and how in an instant the witnesses can change from one form of thinking to another.. my main thought, however, was the way a short sharp shock disconnected two of these people from the mainframe.

There will never be another Raymond Franz
by rory-ks ini would not be in the least surprised if a prospective new member of the governing body has to sign a legal contract promising that should they ever leave the gb, they must maintain complete silence about what goes on in the inner sanctum..

Jehovah's Witnesses, sado-masochism, and the fear of freedom
by rory-ks inquite on the contrary to jehovah's witnesses being a fulfillment of the promise jesus made that the truth shall set you free, the religion acts as a device through which to escape from freedom, or as erich fromm puts it, to get rid of the burden of freedom.
the following passages, taken from the book the fear of freedom, by erich fromm, can be left largely to speak for themselves:.
the first mechanism of escape from freedom i am going to deal with is the tendency to give up the independence of one's own individual self and to fuse one's self with somebody or something outside oneself in order to acquire the strength which the individual self is lacking.
