    They are merely "obsessed."

Original NWT reads: "If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, he is puffed up [with pride], not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions..."

2013 Revision reads: " If any man teaches another doctrine and does not agree with the wholesome instruction, which is from our Lord Jesus Christ, nor with the teaching that is in harmony with godly devotion, he is puffed up with pride and does not understand anything. He is obsessed with arguments and debates about words. These things give rise to envy, strife, slander, wicked suspicions..."

Now, however, they are also officially "puffed up with pride," instead of possibly being "puffed up [with pride]".

Interesting. I wonder if that might actualy be worse. If you are mentally diseased then it isn't your fault and the dubs might feel bad for you. If you are just obsessed then it is kind of your own doing. Seems almost like a softer term that allows for a wider net to be cast on who an apostate is.

Although being obsessed is really a specific form of a mental disease isn't it?

They got bad press for 'mentally diseased(TM)' and the police were involved in the UK.

With the WBT$ they follow the money or where they might lose money in lawsuits.

It's all about money. They can alter what they call 'god's word(TM)' to keep their big business alive and bringing in power and money for the GB rock star lifestyle.

This new rendering is what was suggested as far more accurate in Threads on here that discussed the Mentally Diseased rendering.

The W.T has achieved its goal, they have put the idea in the minds of the R&F JDubs, and yet have dropped the phrase.

I think they shat themselves when the Crown Prosecution Service here in the U.K took a look at their use of the phrase in the Watchtower magazine.

None of their new renderings in the latest NWT are driven by a desire for greater accuracy in the first place, it is always firstly about money.

This is all about mind control no matter what rendering of the scripture is used.

As phizzy points out its a way of convincing the R&F that a demon is lurking in

    every questioners mind.

Do they not realise it was only by questioning and even obsesivness by the old

brigade of their organisation that has resulted in the organisation they

have aligned themselves with today ie obsessed with money, business sold

through the medium of religion , one of the biggest money spinners

of the gullible known to man.(check the accounts JWs).

    Oh, that's okay then....

I was furious about that label "mentally diseased", it was pretty detrimental to people who suffer with mental health problems, depression etc...

Trust the 'effing WT to recant that expression to cover their sorry arses.

The word "obsessive" is still patronising people who have a questioning mind, however.

What a huge pile of SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSt.

is 'mentally deseased' not reserved for partakers? perhaps we can have it both ways by nibbling&slurping?

I'm curious: are JW elder pedophiles also just "obessed", are they "mentally diseased", or are they still just plain, garden variety elders with a bad habit?

    .

In WT Land, people who seek truth = "mentally diseased" (now upgraded to "obsessed")

elders who rape children = qualified shepherds, neither "mentally diseased" nor "obsessed".

    .

it's interesting who WT chooses to villify, and the terminology used to entrench the villification, while simultaneously standing in silence over the real crime....

Quest for understanding, like in - proof of reality - is a

    'Magnificent Obcession'.

I wonder how many times 'mentally diseased(TM)' will still be referred to in the meetings(TM) as a fitting label though?

The paedophile protecting men have said it, now they can't take it back, can't hide it as easily as a peado in a congregation!
