  Are we sure that there aren't more 'compound'-ish structures?

  wasn't sure where to put this but .... .

  so mr bsom and i got to talking and we got to wondering if there aren't other compound like buildings being structured, or if assembly halls have been built with greater living quarters?

  the entirety of this situation is really beginning to shape up like the davidians or jim jones.

  comments such as oldskools: more like digital colonialism channeled through one of the weaker and less important institutions western society has to offer.. .

  some have compared the orgs future path to the world wide church of gods.

  As the organization continues to gradually decline, the more the leaders will grasp for authority. They are circling the wagons now. If there is a fast decline, the more cultlike their trajectory will be.

  the title is a bit of click bait.

  but here's the alternative title: what stupid beliefs/ideas did you have while an active jw.. i think the majority of jws that don't have obvious mental health issues are not stupid, just un/under-educated.

  for example, i now accept evolution as a thing, not a controversy or conjecture.

  This is because of undue influence...in particular Information Control.

  i don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.

  they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.

  but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.

  I do wonder if rather than declaring the Great Tribulation has began, Watchtower will declare they are in the pre-tribulation period (perhaps the Peace and Security cry) and to begin to make preparations. I could imagine this involving selling all Kingdom Halls and going back to a “book study” arrangement meeting in smaller groups in private homes.

  In particular, information control. Lovebombing. Harsh punishment for those who do not agree 100%.

  And what Slim Boy Fat said about 1914. Had WWI started in another year, some other Adventist group using the 2520 year calculation would have likely used it to confirm their prediction and the Bible Students would have long faded away and been entirely forgotten.

  Of course, whether this group would become a fullblown cult like JWs would require a tyrant like Rutherford to take over.

  Witness Carts - A Vehicle for Significant Decline

  i was stalking to a jw today about her recent experience on the carts and with being a jw generally.

  until this conversation i considered the carts as just an ineffective preaching method and a harmless waste of time.

  but now i wonder if the effect of the carts might be to produce noticeable decline in jw numbers.

  A few years before I woke up, a young man in my congregation went to Ministerial Training School. He began to speak about some of the things he had learned.

  One of the things mentioned was that of incubus or succubus, that is to say, sex demons. He went on to talk about an experience of a lady who lived in an old house. She was tired all the time because her sleep kept getting interrupted. It turned out to be a demon was harassing her while she was sleeping and she kept waking up. When they figured this out, they searched the house from top to bottom and in the attic they found hidden a Ouija board.

  This is the sort of stuff that the “Keep Yourself In God’s Love” book instructed JWs not to talk about, otherwise they might draw the demons. However, it seems at MTS school it was discussed overtly.

  I’m wondering for those who’ve attended MTS school, what bizarre things they taught that would not be mentioned at ordinary JW meetings?

  No Girls Scout Cookies for you!

  even though, i was raised in a witness home, i never remember hearing that girl scout cookies were a no-no.

  and even though i've only been baptized for a few years, i don't remember any specific admonishment of these sweet treats.

  but recently at work a jdub coworker made it a point to remind me that jw's do not buy or eat girl scout cookies.
