“Fair” is in the eye of the beholder; free is the verdict of the market. The word “free” is used three times in the Declaration of Independence and once in the First Amendment to the Constitution, along with “freedom.” The word “fair” is not used in either of our founding documents. - Milton Friedman, WSJ, 1996
The U.S. is a Constitutional Republic. As previously stated, citizens are the leaders. Elected officials are public servants. I have been heavily involved in local and state politics for years. I see what goes on behind closed doors. This is actually how it works.
In a Constitutional Republic the rule of law applies. It applies equally. However, there is a big push to change the U.S. fundamentally into something it was never intended to be. The strategy has always been to divide and to do so through emotionally charged arguments of little substance all put under the banner of "Fair." First it was economic status and now its racially driven.
In a free society a government has but 2 duties -
1. National Defense (including border security)
2. Provide a criminal/civil justice system to provide a means for persons to seek justice when wronged.
All other goods and services are to come from the market place. A superior product always comes the private sector. Once government gets involved in a service, the private sector tries to capitalize on this by driving prices sky-high. After all, once the government starts funneling tax dollars into a service, service providers drive the prices through the roof (see: health insurance, college tuition).

When I was a Witness there was a paradoxical situation involving the WBTS rendetion of the "last days" and the "Great Tribulation."
As the WBTS story goes; first the "Wild Beast" of Revelation would turn on the "Harlot." This would begin the Great Tribulation. The WBTS writes that this means the governments of the world would "turn" on false religion.
Later, those same governments would turn on Jehovah's people and thus bring Armageddon.
It was often alluded to the governments of the world would "turn" on false religion buy seizing it's wealth and assets. This is where things got interesting to me. I believed if the governments decided to seize religion's wealth the WBTS would not be exempt. After all, the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society were split into separate identities in the 1990s. We were told not to refer to "The Society" as a source of authority. So, I believed that it was only reasonable that all the Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, Bethel Homes, other WBTS properties, and all bank accounts would be seized. The WBTS would cease to exist, but the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses would continue on.
Here is where things got somewhat paradoxical. I knew most Witnesses would not believe the Great Tribulation had begun or anything else unless it was put in print by the Watchtower. I knew most Witnesses worshiped the organization and not Jehovah. Even 20 years ago I knew that Witnesses believed that unless it came from HQ in Brooklyn, NY it wasn't "The Truth." That got me to thinking, which is frowned upon by the organization.

What happened to the "New World Order"?
by stuckinarut2 inso as a child and youth growing up as a witness, (i'm 43 now) we often heard the expression "new world order".. the society just doesnt use that expression anymore.
so what was the reasoning behind them amending that expression?.

I recall the term "New System." In the 90s it seemed there was an attempt to add "New Order," but it never really caught on. "New World Order" is a term used in conjunction with a globalist agenda to have a one-world government.

I was in from birth to my early 30s. I lived in 4 states during that time. I knew Witnesses in all of those places that owned rifles and shotguns. They justified it to the congregation as hunting tools.
I owned a few pistols. I took them to the range.
Carrying any weapon for the purpose of self defense was frowned upon and would result in a loss of any privileges.
This is all due to a mistranslated scripture.

New releases at annual meeting??
by _Morpheus inthis has been mentioned in passing but it seems to deserve its own thread.. this year at the rc, no releases.
instead they wait to drop them at the annual meeting which isnt a even simulcast event.
what is their thinking?
-
truth_b_known
My thoughts are similar to Sparrowdown's. I believe the WBTS wants increased control over who initially obtains a hard copy of the new release. Correct me if I am wrong , because they didn't start this until after I was out, but isnt't the Annual Meeting a "by invitation only" event. Not all Witnesses are invited and non-Witnesses are definitely not invited.

Ex jw memorial
by lancelink inrecently a young person who was df'd died.
as you can imagine, there will be no talk at the hall.. well, enter some very courageous other young ex jw's who had their own memorial.. these people got together , and had a bonfire in memory of our friend.
and since we have hardly seen each other in over ten years, the conversation and tears flowed all night.. it just amazes me how all the parents of these grown up, normal young people think that ignoring their children is something that god approves of.

I am certain it was a far, far greater memorial than anything that could be offered by a Witness elder at a Kingdom Hall.

When All Else FAILS Protest and Cry When You Don’t Get Your Way
by minimus indo these democrats really think that if they protest and wail about anything they don’t like , that policies will change ?
they are really embarrassing themselves..

Protests are meaningless in the United States now. One of the chief reasons is, in recent times, there seems to be a protest every 2 seconds for everything under the sun. It's not like the 1960's with the civil rights movement or the anti-war movement in protest of America's involvement in Vietnam.
One of the main differences is that the protesters in those movements seemed to be educated on the issues and had a real plan of action. I find it depressing to see independent journalists interviewing current protesters only to expose the fact that current protesters have no idea of why they are protesting or what their end goal is.

My wife was not in the organization long. Maybe 2 years before we met. One of the reasons she got out (I'd say she did before I did) was, no matter what she did or how hard she tried, the organization always asked "Can you do more?" To her this was the organization constantly saying "You're best isn't good enough."
