  The Biggest Issue Is Not Guns—It Is Mental Health!

  crazy people shoot up places and kill people.

  take away guns and they will find knives, poison, bombs , etc.. seriously, there are a lot of mentally unhealthy people!

  You are responsible for your own personal safety. You don't get to shirk your duties and pass them on to someone else. A major problem in society today is statism. The government is not your friends. The government is not the answer to the ills of society.

  People think because they pay taxes that now magically the government will make them safe. Safety is an illusion. It is not an illusion to trade for liberty or freedom. Just because someone lacks the intestinal fortitude to use force for a righteous purpose someone else should not lose the means to do so.

  I have been a police officer for nearly 20 years. I absolutely detest when I hear the term "public safety". Police do not exist to protect the public. They exist to enforce the law so criminal offenders can be held accountable.

  In a free society, the police if the public and the public is the police. Every able bodied citizen has constabulary and military duties to their community and nation. Hamstringing people by restricting possession and use of weapons goes directly against that.

  Door-to-door preaching as surveillance

  i wanted to share some thoughts about jehovah's witnesses and their door-to-door preaching.

  door-to-door preaching is supposedly about gathering converts, but in fact, as we frequently discuss, doesn't actually bring that many "sheep-like ones" in.

  i want to suggest that a second meaning (what we call the latent meaning in academia) is facilitating surveillance of the congregants who attend some congregation.

  The door-to-door ministry was a business model to sell publications of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. That is why members of the cult are referred to as "publishers". What changed?

  The fear of losing their tax exempt status cause the WBTS to go to the donation program. This had an immediate economic impact on the WBTS. Members would purchase literature for cash from the WBTS. Then they would sell it to the public for the same price. Many members would then donate that money to the WBTS instead of using it to purchase additional literature. So, that Watchtower Joe Q. Publisher purchased for $0.25 made the WBTS $0.50. It probable cost the WBTS $0.05 to manufacture it.

  I know for a fact that most publishers did not make sufficient donations to cover the cost of the literature. I donated $0.00 whenever I picked up magazines and books. This is what lead to the diminishing size and frequency of magazines, softcover books, and eventually download-only literature.

  However, because the door-to-door ministry is the trademark of Witness activity they couldn't cease it. So, they switched over to showing videos on self-purchased tablets. In addition, cart Witnessing began.

  I am sure that more than once Witnesses saw some inactive members house while out in the ministry and discovered holiday decorations. Of course the dry snitched on the inactive member. Yes, that member was probably disfellowshipped. This is not the purpose of door-to-door witnessing.

  i know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.

  but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.

  if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

  Japanese JW woman "volunteer missionary" murdered in Guatemala

  saw this in the headline news in japan as a jw sister "need-greater" in guatemala was murdered and her partner stabbed, but survived.

  I agree with Fall Guy. The first thing I decided once I left was to stop using Watchtower terminology and never to play by their rules. To play by their rules is to acknowledge their authority.

  Getting Remarried after a spouses death & then they are resurrected after Armageddon ?

  hi guys .

  i was wondering about the above , if a jw is allowed to remarry if a spouse has died, then what happens when they are resurrected at armageddon, do u land up with two wives/husbands ,,,,,,, makes no sense to me & can the jw's be so dumb not to think about this or have i got it wrong ?

  and i will not be asking my uber jw husband , don't have the energy.. thanks.

  Matt. 23:30 states the dead neither marry or are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. Whatever "like angels" means, one thing is clear - JWs teach death of one spouse ends the marriage and, when resurrected, the deceased spouse will never marry again.

  I had a JW buddy who thought he could hold out until after Armageddon because he wanted to marry the resurrected Marilyn Monroe. I hated to burst his bubble.

  If you are ask to why the leadership (aka "Governing Body") of Jehovah's Witnesses does not freely advocate the report of child abuse to law enforcement, the reason is money. Where there is criminal litigation there is often civil litigation, especially if there is money to be had. Which is ironic as if the Watchtower policy had started with "Immediately notify local law enforcement and give them your full support" I am sure it would lessen the liability.

  As far as rank and file Witnesses go - the organization is everything and does all the decision making. Literally - rank and file members live and die at the words of the organization. To them obedience to the organization equals salvation from Jehovah. To take action with out the expressed approval of the local body of elders is a deep and serious sin in their eyes.

  This is why the comparison to child sacrifice to Muloch is no different then the scores of children sacrificed to the Watchtower.

  This mindset goes beyond sex crimes involving child victims. It extends clear out to just about any criminal offense committed by any congregation member. Sure, the local body of elders will disfellowship the criminal offender, but in the end its all about maintaining the "reputation of the organization." It is never about protecting the public or pursuing justice. They excuse themselves by quoting Romans 12:19, but that has to deal with vengeance. Although those two things are similar, they are not one and the same.

  What Are The Differences Between JWs Born In and Converted?

  i tend to think that many jws who joined the religion in their later years feel foolish or are embarrassed by their decision to become one of jehovah’s witnesses.

  i’m not embarrassed by my years “in the truth “ because i was raised from infancy to believe everything was god’s word and who are we to question jehovah and his organization?

  It's far easier for a converted person to leave because their pre-cult support system never left them. My wife converted in her late 20s. She was only in for about 2 years when we met. Prior to becoming a Witness nearly her entire support system family and relatives, none of which liked her becoming a Witness, but went along with it.

  I was born in. My parents were never close to their family when I grew up. In my high school years and early adult life I had cultivated friendships with non-Witnesses and Witnesses who were inactive. The majority of my support group were Witnesses.

  For my wife it was as nothing changed other than she went back to celebrating holidays with family and relatives.

  For me the only thing that helped was I had my closest friends who all had left the organization ahead of me and an ever growing number of friends I met through my line of work.

  Live 'as though' God is true and goodness is real? Why? Why not?

  in the long run, goodness can be as real as we care to live it.

  and if we live 'as though' god were as real as we once believed--how can we go wrong?let us think about this...what would happen if we were given a large amount of cash and we spent it on gifts for our loved ones but-- a knock at the door and the police are here!

  that cash was counterfeit and those gifts must be confiscated...what then?good intentions are only that--intentions-- if there is no "there" there.when we were each others' brothers and sisters our love was real but the currency was counterfeit.

  If "goodness" is real then "evil" must also be real. What is evil?

  "What is evil?" was the question a college professor of philosophy asked his students day one of class. The professor started with the student sitting in the front row of the lecture hall.

  "War," she answered.

  "Wrong" replied the professor.

  The professor asked the second student, "What is evil?"

  "Violence," the second student answered.

  "Wrong," replied the professor.

  The professor continued asking the same question of each student. He went student by student, row by row, asking them all the same question and each answer given by students was met with the same reply - "Wrong!" That was until he got about 25 students into the process and he called on my buddy.

  "What is evil?" asked the professor of my friend.

  My friend knew that this question was coming and truly racked his brain coming up with what he thought was a legitimate answer. Then he replied.

  "Cancer."

  The professor paused and pondered on his his answer for several uncomfortable seconds.

  "Yes," replied the professor who then promptly returned to the lectern and began his first lecture to the class.

  I share this story to share an opinion - concepts of "good" and "evil" are man-made and subjective. Something that is classified as "good" can later be re-branded to "evil" over a period of time and vice versa. That is not to say there are not things that are "good" and will always be seen that way or that some things are not truly "evil'.

  So what is the alternative?

  One universal truth is that for every action there is a reaction. All actions have consequences. The word "consequences" has been given a negative connotation. In reality consequences can be positive or more accurate, consequences are just the results of what we do or fail to do.

  So the alternative is to ask ourselves this question - "What can I live with?"
