I don't know, but my gut instinct tells me that the guy pictured in photo #1 is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

YPA change of picture
by dozy inanybody got any idea why the cover picture on the young people ask book was changed?
they removed the picture of the boy bottom right & superimposed a different head.
maybe the guy got dfd or maybe it was to change it to an asian guy rather than 2 caucasians?

Why "fancy dress" and "theme weddings" were BANNED by our Congregation!
by Witness 007 inour kingdom hall was in a boring town of 30,000 people so to spice things up me and some special pioneers living with us decided to have a fancy dress up party!
what could go wrong?
nice clean fun, and no booze (oh crap!).

I remember back in the early 1990s that country music became faddish as did country line dancing. Some brothers started wearing western cut suits, western hats, and western boots. They looked well dressed. However, we were soon counselled from the platform that western wear was inappropriate on the stage and were told to cut it out.
...and then we have this.
As far as I am concerned, the religion I left over 10 years ago no longer exists.

If alcohol was a DF offense
by James Mixon ini guess the question which is the hardest to give up smoking or alcohol.
many folks gave up smoking in the 70's including me but i have known some hard drinking brothers and if consuming any kind of alcohol became a df offense, i wonder.....

I often wondered why eating fast food and being overweight isn't a disfellowshipping offense? The logic behind the smoking prohibition is that smoking is harmful to your body and your body is supposed to be a temple to Jehovah. Therefore, putting high levels of sugar, sodium, and saturated fat would also be the same as inhaling tobacco smoke.
I remember as a kid my friend's dad, who was not a born-in, getting disfellowshipped for smoking. I also remember going out in field service on Saturdays taking our morning break. Chances are it was a McDonald's, a donut shop, or some other place that the members of our car group would intake huge amounts of sugar and sodium.

Dietary Quirks Among JWs
by millie210 ini recently had to accompany an older family member out of state to a family reunion.
it was a big reunion and not much was overtly made of the fact that i am "misguided" and not attending meetings (lost soul that i am) which was nice.
the thing i noticed that i was most struck by was all the dietary quirks in evidence during our 3 days together.

Growing up in the organization I found Witnesses to be obsessed with special diets, holistic medicines, a make believe illnesses. Why go to the doctor when you can eat cabbage soup, put poison botanical oil in your drinking water, and get your bones cracked by a chiropractor?
The answer is simple - window washers don't have medical insurance.

Blade Runner - the new movie
by days of future passed ini went to see blade runner 2 because i liked the first one.
even tho the first one was i think rated r, i still saw it.
the whole atmosphere of the first one was bizarre and real to itself.. if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read on.. with high hopes, despite hearing that it tanked at the box office (are the critics crazy?

I am a huge fan and student of the original Blade Runner. I have seen 4 of the 5 versions (I need to see the work print). I've also read "Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner" which is a must read.
If you are not a fan of Blade Runner, which there seems to be just as many haters as fans, you will most likely not enjoy Blade Runner 2049. In addition, if you have not watched the short films Blade Runner 2022, 2036, and 2048 you will not get the full effect of the film.
Blade Runner 2049 did not have the same feel as the original, but it was similar. This is in part two things - 1) the blackout of 2022 started a sort of nuclear winter. This is why it's snowing instead of raining all the time. It also effected the cityscape as well. 2) CGI over practical effects. CGI has killed the visual of all movies. Nothing can replace practical effects.
Story wise, Blade Runner 2049 makes sense.
It's not as good as the original, but nothing could ever be. If you read Future Noir you'll see why.

You are correct. Lazarus paid the bill in full. He should have lived forever.
Jehovah's Witnesses can try to crawfish out of that, but they can't and don't let them.

The .22 caliber has been used by men to take more human lives than any "high-powered" ammunition. Also, whatever ammunition used by this old man in Las Vegas was assuredly not "high-powered".
The term "assault rifle" was coined by the media, not by the firearms industry.
Pol Pot Murdered over 2,000,000 people by the age of 55 in the name of Communism. No one bats an eye or calls for the outlawing of Communism because we've never tried "Democratic Socialism". I'm pretty sure he started by disarming the good citizens of Cambodia. They all do that. Stalin. Mao Zedong. Pot. Castro.
The number one tool used for mass murder in the history of the world - fire. Why do civilians need access to fire?
If someone is intent on committing Murder, the only thing stopping them is killing that person first. There is no such thing as "safe".
