The tabernacle had previously been the church of Henry Ward Beecher. It is interesting that j f Rutherford's name is absent completely from the list of elders and deacons.

I think it's great to see a post from a Japanese poster, but with the linked website all in Japanese and the photos unidentified, I'm not convinced.

What is the Education Level of the Governing Body members?
by Wild_Thing ini would love to compile a list of the education obtained by the governing body members both past and present.
can anyone provide any information to get me started?.
it still amazes me they think they can translate ancient languages with an 8th grade education.

Fred Franz had some college, but I'm not sure he finished his degree. Even if he didn't, it would be fair to say that he had the equivalent. despite that, I don't believe the WT has ever had a person qualified for original language translation of the Bible.

I always thought the one on the bible story showing pharaoh s army, the look of casual disinterest on the father and daughter was inappropriate

Found Another Medieval Coin This Evening
by cofty ini got in an hour metal detecting this evening and found this almost immediately.. it is a silver penny of henry ii minted in london by "davi" between 1180 and 1189. this adds a king i didn't have in my collection.
i now have the series of henry ii - john - henry iii - edward i - edward ii - edward iii.. i now need richard the lionheart to fill in the gap.
he was the brother of john and reigned after the death of henry ii.

Jehovah`s Witnesses Boasted They have No Clergy Laity Class ?
by smiddy inwell that`s what was impressed on me to differentiate between the true religion and false religion , when i was converted in 1960 , do they still claim that ?
believing that they still do , i will say this.. what about ,:the governing body who definitely are set apart from the rank and file for their attitude towards the r&f , but also from the attitude of the r&f towards the governing body members.many do seem to idolise gb members by their actions , and the gb members dont seem to discourage that.. and not only for their attitude , how about their life-style , being housed in bethel with all the mod -cons of modern civilization as opposed to a r&f member living in a third world country .does the wt society do anything to make their lifestyle improve ?
{ did jesus have a place to rest his head ?

Along these lines, when I was growing up, there was a congregation 'servant' and circuit 'servant'. At least in name they were there to humbly serve. But now they are 'overseers' . The name itself tells you something.

Jehovah's Witnesses - a religion of displaced people?
by slimboyfat ini've had a theory for a long time that jws historically have appealed to people who have been displaced or find themselves in a new environment away from family and friends.
i also read an article recently that suggested that internal migration in italy was a big boost for jw growth.
more generally it has long been theorised that new religious movements are a phenomenon particularly associated with disruptive features of modernity, including the hyper-mobility of people in the modern age.

I think the religion appeals to people who are disenfranchised.

where have the demons gone?
by aboveusonlysky indoes anybody remember some of the sensational demon stories jw's would tell back in the day?
i was a kid in the early 80's and i remember a few times hearing of people having real life encounters with demons.
for example, one sister claimed that before she became a jdub she would regularly talk to demons and they would even fix stuff like her washing machine!

I met a jw from Nigeria a few years ago and he just went on and on about demonism. It seems likely that the topic would be more prominently discussed in Africa.
