"do not go beyond the things written"
by stuckinarut2 inthanks to bu2b and splash who mentioned this quote in another thread!.
but i thought it deserved a thread all of its own, such is the impact of this:.
the very best example of going beyond the things written comes from a 2008 watchtower.

For them to call 'do not go beyond what is written' a Rule is in itself going beyond what is written since the Greek doesn't contain 'rule' or any Greek equivalent. The old NWT, while not alone in translating it that way, differs from a lot of the modern translations. I don't know if the revised NW says 'rule' but I expect it does. -

by humblepotato inso we all know that "crazy" brother or sister.

they give the best comments (from a hilarious perspective), have experiences with the "demons", but most importantly, they are on about 10 deifferent kinds of medications.

If you ever get a chance to talk to a JW from Africa, you'll hear a lot about demons. Maybe it's the background but it is very much a main topic. -

Passive aggressive circuit overseer talk
by hoser ini went and listened to the circuit overseer talk last night.
he started off by saying how many jws are in prisons in other countries and how we need to be prepared for when we are persecuted by the governments because it will happen "soon".
near the end of the talk he got into how our own minds often imagine the very worst case scenario and that this isn't good.

Can you give any indication where this may be? Just generally, without compromising yourself. Region of country, etc -

Brazen rowdiness, too funny!
We play chess by the 'one foot' rule. You have to keep one foot on the floor at all times.

I would have thought the JW would have removed his King too since it has a cross on top. -

Proof - of what?
by Doltologist ina few weeks ago, these two jovies turned up on my doorstep.
being in a good mood that particular day, i told them that if they could prove that god existed, i'd become a jovie - and i meant every word.. they gave me two documents which they asked me read and told me that they'd be back in a week.
the first was called "was life created?

The 'astronomically low' chances of chemicals lining up in just the right way never convinced me. I always reasoned that it only would have to happen once, and since life is here, it could have happened. For instance, I can shuffle a deck of cards, and the probability of them being in a particular order is 52!, astronomically high. But it just happened, once. The WT argument never made sense. -

It's shameful. At least back in the 30's and 40's they had a 'righteous' stand for appealing until they got to the highest court, but this time they are appealing the right to protect pedofiles. It's awful. -

Did judge Rutherford piss off Hitler
by greenhornet inthe jws at the time in germany where considered part of the aryan race, (since they were not jews).
then things changed for the jws after rutherford mailed a letter to hitler bragging about jehovahs kingdom on earth.. so can we add this to the bloodshed that that the watchtower corp is responsible for?.

Another angle I haven't seen mentioned yet is Rutherford's hatred of and rivalry with Father Coughlin, who was affiliated with the Nazi party. In the U.S. Which had a candidate in the '36 elections. I wonder if Rutherford wrote that letter to Hitler in '34 to distance himself from Coughlin. Rutherford probably wasn't fully aware that he was throwing the German JWS under the bus with his inflammatory statements, as the horrors of the Holocaust were not fully understood yet in '34 -

I read it to mean that the judgment that the WT was negligent was upheld, but the punitive part of the judgment was not upheld. So a portion of the payment they will have to pay (the part attributed to negligence), but a portion of the payment they will not have to pay (the punitive part).
not an attorney, that's just what I read from it.
