  1974 Special Meetings

  as we all know, armageddon was just around the corner in 1974. at the district conventions that year, it was announced that there would be two special meetings during the month of september; one would be for interested people (e.g., bible studies, family members, inactive, etc.

  ), and the other would be for baptized publishers.

  these were to be held in place of the service meetings for the two weeks, iirc.

  Those were exciting times. How cool would it have been if we were right. Wow!. I was 17 in 1974 and in full expectation of exciting things to come.

  But alas, it was all empty speculation built on lies. How sad.

  according to you tubers mike and kim and son of thunder, egyptian branch closing.

  son of thunder is saying he has relatives that we're running bethel in egypt for years and they have been let go reassigned as special pioneers yet according to him this job no longer pays a wage.

  he also states that 5000 total bethelites world wide are being let go.

  Is a piano inevitable?

  i was at a concert last night and the presence and stature of the piano struck me.

  and i thought: if the piano wasn't invented when it was, would it have been invented by someone else instead?

  or if there was a world the same as our, except with a different history, would it have pianos now too or would it be modern world, similar in many respects, only without pianos?

  You could make the same point about many of the technological advances we have today. Was the iPhone an inevitability? How about Excel? I cannot visualize life without either.

  This is not the religion I grew up in. Which is probably the point. They are making decisions now that will ultimately transform the religion into something very different. They have to go slow. Their hope is the the old-timers die off sooner than later.

  I took a look at their website. The "About Us" link may provide some clues.

  It sounds like they started in the 1950s. My guess they are pretty old at this point. Notice this comment:

  "We lived modestly and I was able to serve in the full-time unpaid volunteer ministry (known as Pioneer Ministry) for 30 years until health and nerve problems prevented continuing."
