JW Talk
by Alive! inwas sipping my coffee, browsing here and there, and then focussed on reading here regarding arc, picked up some world news on same subject - and wondered if jw org would publish any information on their news site.. then, i flicked to jw talk - anything in their public news forum?
a newish headline 'australia and jehovah's witnesses' or something like that - i entered link - web page error, not found.
nope.

Sam Herd's explanation is highly appreciated, as is the wisdom of the GB to use the funds wisely.
DS, I took a look at these comments from the link you posted. If comments related to the RC report were anything like this, is all I can do is shake my head in wonderment.
The people on this site have drunk the Kool-Aid, went back for seconds, and licked the bowl clean dry. These are not people that having a discussion with will create any value.

you can sing all the songs you want - the problem is that they are wasting their lives on a lie. -

How Many JWs Really Believe Everything They Are Told?
by minimus ini think that 80% of jws do not truly believe in what they are taught .
the vast majority stay in because of family, friends, ignorance and a lack of caring about any of the facts regarding the "truth".
many people are lazy.

Believe implies that they understand. You are right the ones that remain are too lazy to do the thinking to justify what they believe. Those that exert the energy to understand what they believe are long gone and spend their time on this board. -

The money question...
by Tornintwo ini am intrigued to know if there is truly any evidence of financial irregularities in the jehovah's witness organisation or if any one or group are raking off funds or benefitting financially...?.
whilst i disagree wholeheartedly with most of their teachings and practices, dogmatism, legalism and superiority complex, i don't honestly think there's anyone making millions at the top.
yes you could say that the gb are comfortably off, don't have to pay bills etc but they do actually get up in the morning and 'work', they aren't going off in private jets to tropical islands or driving bentleys.

Without any transparency there is no way of knowing. I suspect that the two key issues for their money woes include incompetency and litigation. They have probably had to hold a significant reserve for contingent liabilities related to pending litigation.
I work as an auditor - sometimes it is hard to distinguish between incompetency and fraud.

The Watchtower are humans
by WireRider inthe watchtower are humans.
they have never had any conversation with any god, let alone one by a made up name.
they never had any power at all bestowed upon them.

The Watchtower is a magazine and a corporation - it is not human. Your heading is an example of an anthropomorphism. The stakeholders of the Watchtower are human, but don't attribute human characteristics to a legal corporation. To you point, those in charge do not have a direct link to god. -

Are we participants in this forum because of bouts of "loneliness"?
by Wonderment ini wonder how many of us here hold on to this meeting place out of "loneliness.
could it be that we harbor feelings of "abandonment" and "loneliness" from being left cold and dry by the wt people and our families?
perhaps we do have a need to reach out to people with similar experiences.
-

I have not been to a meeting for over 10 years. I am pursing what I consider to be a successful life: I have a happy family outside the borg. I don't think that loneliness explains why I come to this site on a regular basis.
Do you have any other determinants? Also, is it a bad thing that I keep coming back? I have an obsession with the latest of the organization that stole much of my life.

Someone tell me why the Watchtower is tax exempt?
by WireRider ini live in a town.
there is a watchtower kingdom hall.
they do not pay any local sales tax or property tax.
-
NewYork44M
They follow the IRS guidelines for tax exempt organizations. If you think they do not qualify you have every right to contact the IRS and explain why they should not be tax exempt. Keep in mind the primary exemption that churches get is related to property taxes. You are not going to get much tax revenue from income generated; the significant exemption relates to property taxes.
I would love to see churches lose their tax exempt position. I doubt that this will happen in our lifetime.
