I have a niece who goes to a "non denominational" church. We have all decided that that is the denomination, "non denominational". It is organized, has a headquarters, and all the rest. I guess the difference is they aren't Presbyterian, Lutheran or Methodist.

Non-Denominational = Non-Religious?
by rebel8 inso i am getting peeved at xians who go to great lengths and lie about something (their community event, their charity, whatever) being "not religious".
truth is, it's "non-denominational".
then people like me get roped in, only to find out that it is indeed a religious thing.

Do you Consider yourself "Christian" and what does this imply?
by JH ini consider myself "christian", but don't know exactly what one must do to please christ and yhwh...

I do consider myself a Christian, but am not religious in any sense of the word.
I question whether there is a god at all. I absolutely do not believe Jesus was god or a son of god. But he was a very good life coach, so to speak.
To me, being a Christian is living, for the most part, according to the teachings of Jesus. And saying I'm a Christian seems to be politically correct these days.

How do we help JWs who want to leave?
by TwentyYearsOut inwhat if we held up signs outside of kingdom halls with "go to jehovahs-witness.com for more info" on them...or maybe a billboard.
something they can't ignore.. i'm fairly new at jwd, so stop me if you've heard this before.. .

If you do that, they will think you are a nutcase.................apostate, or worse. It could also be illegal.
I think we have to wait for JW's to be ready to leave. When they are, they will find us. All of us did. The internet is right here, and this discussion forum is on all the search engines.

I think you are right about Bill. He is making too many compromises. And then Nikki stole all the money from the compound and is gambling. I never would have thought she would be the one to get hooked on it.
I remembered some things from last night that made me laugh out loud. Barb asked Sarah where she had met her boyfriend and she told her it was at "an ex Mormon support group". Too funny.
Then she asked her if they were having premarital sex and Sarah said "Mormons don't have the monopoly on morals". You were right on, undercover.
Also when Nikki tried to talk to her mother and she blew her off because she was excommunicated or banished or whatever it was she had said before.
Albie is a doofus. I think he is also gay. That will make an interesting storyline too.

may need some help soon
by Missanna inok so i send my father a letter telling him several reasons i do not believe the witnesses are jehovah's organization.i also told my father at the end of the letter that i was setting some boundaries once and for all.
that i would not be emotionally blackmailed or verbally abused anymore that if he wanted to talk to me as a father then i welcome that and if he can't do that then i do not wish to comunicate with him.
i sent it about a week ago and was waiting for all hell to break loose but nothing happend.

that is such an excellent way to handle these situations................by asking them questions.
"why do you say that?"
"where does it say that in the Bible?"
"is that what you really believe, or are you just repeating something you heard at the meeting?"
You did good!!!

there were several things in last night's show that reminded me of the JW's..................I'll have to watch it again to remind myself what they were.

What's your name for 'Watchtower Speak'?
by sweet pea inhaving put some distance in between us and the wts, i can't read any of the society's publications without feeling extremely uncomfortable and irritated by the tone and language that the society uses.
it all sounds the same - patronising, guilt-inducing, condescending, intellectually unchallenging, etc.
as far as i'm aware the term is 'watchtower speak'.

We call it Watchtower Rhetoric or JW Rhetoric or JW partyline talk.

Can a staunch Democrat be good friends with a staunch Republican?
by journey-on infor those with strong political views, is it impossible to be really good friends with someone on the other side?
my very best friends either tend to think like me on the political continuum or have no care whatsoever for politics.
those with exceptionally strong leaning toward the other party tend to get mean and nasty in political discussions which invariably deteriorate hopes for a deeper friendship.. what has been your experience?.

Absolutely.............my second son is a staunch, well informed Republican, and we are very close. I am not a Democrat, but he thinks I am. I truly am an Independent. My brother is Green Party and a real "tree hugger" environmentalist. He and my son get into some raging battles, arguments, at family gatherings, but they love each other, and always hug goodbye at the end of the evening, laughing.
My husband tends to be a Republican too, but not a Bush supporter. He never voted for him, because he thinks he is an imbecile. And he's right.

I like tall men with rugged good looks, not the "pretty-boy handsome" type. I can appreciate how good looking they are, but they just don't attract me. They remind me of my brother, who was and is very handsome, in a Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt kind of way. He is 67 now but still very very attractive.
I've always been attracted to men who are tall, muscular, and not obviously handsome, but definitely not unattractive. Aside from looks, I like extreme intelligence, a good conversationalist, someone who is respectful that I have a mind too, and a great sense of humor.
When I was a teenager, I would have added "not a redhead" and then I married one and had 3 redhaired sons.

Shunning of ex JW family members imposed or optional?
by greendawn insome supportes of the jws argue that the wts does not impose on its followers to shun and disgrace ex jw family members, it leaves them the option to decide on the issue and some shun and others do not.
is that an honest arguments or is it like the blood issue where the wts supposedly doesn't impose on its members the decision to refuse blood?
for all we know the non shunning of ex jw family members except for absolutely necessary contact could lead a jw to dfing.

I think it's optional. Some do shun and others do not.
Maybe it's where they live, the personality of the local congregation, or the personality of the family. I can't say for sure. Our family does not shun us, but I know others whose families do shun them.
