  this is a follow up to yesterdays pet thread.

  what are your pets names, and why did you name them that??.

  my oldest dog is baylor...from the book ya ya sisterhood (he was the little brother, i just loved the name).

  All of my adult cats have finally disappeared, my last, Snowy, has been missing for three weeks.

  So the kittens we rescued are all indoors, destroying my house.

  I have not gotten rid of any of the kittens. They are now a permanent addition to our family. They are about four months old now, and have finally gotten used to the litter box.

  Chester--orange kitten with brown spots like a cheetah--therefore like "Chester Cheetah."

  Dora--gray kitten--likes to explore, therefore like "Dora the Explorer."

  Oliver--gray kitten--just because he looks like an Oliver.

  Gracie--black tabby kitten with white underbelly, same reason as Oliver.

  Harry--Jack Russell Terrier (see reason for "Oliver" and "Gracie.")

  However, we have found we have ALL MALE KITTENS. Dora and Gracie have been misnamed, but unfortunately for them, we still call them sissy girl names. Someone suggested "Bert and Ernie" for them, and it's cute, but we can't get out of the habit of calling them by their original names.

  Do you have any "old friends"?

  hey all,.

  i was thinking today that many of us lack something that other people enjoy -- old friends.

  we either weren't close to our high school friends, or sort of shut them out of our lives.

  I don't have many close friends, but I do have a worldly friend from my freshman year of high school who stuck by me through all my religious idiosyncrasies, and got me to buy a home next door to hers in 2001. So we've been friends for 22 years, and next door neighbors for 5. Of course, I have no witness friends who have stuck by me.

  I also have a relatively new friend of two years, and I am very close to her. People say we "sound" like each other. I don't like that, but it's probably true! My next door neighbor friend refers to her as "Gwyn's NEW best friend," in a rather snotty way. Oh well. You can't please all of the people all of the time!

  Did you go to your prom?

  my last post doubled up and i ended up seeing it twice, when it should have been once.

  so i though i would just edit it and make it into another topic related to high school.

  When I was a sophomore, I had a junior boyfriend who invited me to the junior-senior prom. I can't believe my parents let me go. I was given strict rules, and I was not allowed to go out after prom (some people drive to the beach, or they eat late suppers) but to come straight home. Even with the restrictions, I was in love and it was a magical night. When he brought me home at 11 p.m., my mother was up, and was very curt and abrupt with us. My date left a little bewildered (and much earlier than planned), and my mother confronted me that she'd read my diary while I was gone. (My diary was UNDER MY BED.) She had read about all the petting experimentation and sneaking out the window that I had been doing. My father had to "step aside" as an elder as a direct result. I could not get over the violation of my privacy for a long time.

  Of course, the next year, I was banned from going. The now senior boyfriend dumped me the beginning of my junior year. It was the junior's year to decorate the facility, and I volunteered. We had a new boy in our class that year, and we became fast friends. There were no romantic feelings at all, but since we were both dateless, we decided to go to prom together. I had no money for a dress, so I took a strapless sundress ("What? No princessy dress?" said my Spanish teacher) and shortened the crinolin from the year before, and made an outfit. I then snuck it to my best friend's one afternoon, and later told my parents that I was spending the night with her. My friend's mother did my hair, and my date picked me up there. All pictures were at her house, by her mom. Prom was not that fun, because I was still pining after old boyfriend, and he was there with his new girlfriend. The point was, that I went. I don't remember how they knew, but my parents confronted me with suspicions that I went to prom, and when questioned point blank, I couldn't deny it. I was told I lied by omission. My father gave me the silent treatment for three days, but it was worth it.

  My senior prom, I was already married. The night of my senior prom was a Pink Floyd concert. I chose the concert. A stoner girl in my class said, "Pink Floyd will be in concert anytime, but there is only one senior prom." I got deathly ill after the outdoor concert that rained on us, and was sick a month after, almost missing the entire last month of school my senior year.

  I QUIT !!!

  did any of you do something really naughty and forbidden after you left the wts?

  i waited almost 6 months, then realized i could smoke because there wasn't anyone to tell me what i can and can't do, so if i wanted to, i could smoke......so i did.

  it wasn't long until i began to regret doing that.

  Going to Kingdom Halls on Holiday

  did anyone attend meetings when they were on holiday?.

  my parents used to find out where the local kingdom hall was and drag us along to the sunday meeting when we went on holidays.

  did anyone else have to ensure this torture?.

  Every other year during the 80's, we would spend two weeks in Canada for the summer.

  We would attend the Perth, Ontario congregation. My sister and I met the most absolutely beautiful boy there named Craig Mindus (he reminded me of Carey Elwes, back during his "Lady Jane" days. Blonde, with pouty lips.)

  We invited him to our cottage after Sunday meetings to have lunch with us and ride the motorboat to the "island" in the middle of the lake. We would write him for two years until the next visit.

  Just look at what we would have missed if we had taken the attitude that we were "on vacation from Jehovah!"

  How did you feel, when you missed your 1st Memorial?

  i remember going to each memorial even when i was inactive.

  i felt that i had to go to atleast that meeting.. then one year, i was sick on that day, and didn't go to the memorial.

  it was a funny feeling to miss the most important day of the year, as a jw would call it.. but i got used to it, when i missed my 2nd and 3rd memorial..

  The first memorial I missed, I was in the throes of a fever-induced delirium due to adult onset chickenpox, thanks to my pre-schooler. I could have cared less. It didn't seem worth it to go the next year after you miss that first one.

  Gorgeous! Her eye color is beautiful. You are lucky she poses so nicely for you--mine would never let me take that many pictures, and half the ones I might be able to sneak would be of her rolling her eyes or a hand in front of her face. But I guess yours is used to her mom taking lots of pictures!

  Erin had her first formal dance last year in 7th grade, and it was exciting. She wore clear heels, though, that I picked out because nothing else would match the peach/orange/yellow sherbet colored dress she chose. I am pretty sure I now know what those shoes mean, but I am hoping no one else caught on, especially since it was a church sponsored dance...
