Joannadandy asked me: "Have you seen Bowling for Columbine yet?
Yes. It was an interesting movie showing how fear makes you nuts. lol I'm looking forward to his next explosive film about the real story behind 9/11. I've already heard outcries that it is going to stir things up quite a bit. I just hope it is as good as his past work.

I used to be paid to worry about things like that, as I once was a security consultant. I'm no longer following that career but I think a lot about the future and the deleterious problems facing our society. IMHO, the fear promoted and developed by the Bush administration has more to harm people and cause depression than the actual 9/11 attacks. To be fair, the media is also to blame for the sensationalistm. I truly know how fear of what may happen can rob you of your happiness, but we also need to have a balance of enlightened awareness that helps us avoid needless risks. To effectively lower the real threats to our safety in this country, we need political and social reform that will address the terrorist problem and the other synergistic problems facing our country. What I fear more than another terrorist attack, is our collective failure of a nation to make these changes at home that I fear more.

I just thought I might add my two cents worth about using rental cars and auto insurance. Having used several rental car agencies for a good number of years, I was surprised to learn that some major rental car companies have some very nasty fine print on their contracts. For example, if you use your own automobile insurance (assuming you have transferable full coverage from another country) and you are involved in any type of accident that damages the rental vehicle, the rental agency will charge the ENTIRE price of a replacement vehicle to your credit card. This does not mean a few hundred dollars, but often $20,000.00 USD or more. In other words, they charge the cost of buying a new vehicle to your major credit card. When and if your insurance actually sends the check and it clears the bank of the rental car company (this can be months) your charges on your credit card are either refunded or the hold is released. Yes, this did happen to a friend of mine, and several rental agencies will tell you about this IF YOU ASK.
This means if you don't want to worry about your credit card being held hostage or outrageous charges on it, you need to obtain supplemental insurance. If you buy the rental agencies auto insurance, you are getting ripped off big time. I typically paid an extra $15-$20 per day for their insurance until I found out you can buy special travel insurance (available to anyone anywhere) that is designed to cover this insurance blackmail. You can do a web search under Google for "travel insurance" as the topic or here is one of many links: http://www.travelguard.com/agentlink.asp?ta_arc=62987&pcode=007370 Most of these companies will charge you only half of what you would pay for car rental company insurance, and there is a great deal of different offers to check into. I don't recommend one over the other, but I have saved a small fortune by using several of them. If there is an accident, these companies issue credit for up to $25,000 to the rental car company to cover all damages immediately. Thus, your credit card is not charged.
I hope this is of some value to you wild and loveable Brits.
Kind Regards,

Dave, I just gotta tell you man....you need to submit this personal story for the AWAKE. They would have to print an extra ten million copies of that issue to keep up with the demand. Damn good reading material dude.

How long do you think being a JW will affect you?
by Adam ini haven't been on this board for a while.
i've been on a conservative ezboard trying to see if we can't do something about political issues.
i've also got a new job, had to get the car fixed, been best man in a wedding, and watched the two towers on vhs.

Add me to the list of those unlucky enough to be born into the JW deleterious ideological pile of mental pooh. Regardless, I've been out now for over 20 years and while every member of my family and extended family disowned me for all time, I'm still enjoying my life. I do know however that there are still scars from my experience. I wish I could have let go of all the anger and hate I had towards the Organization years before I did. I wish I had gotten therapy years before I did. I no longer have the slightest fear of getting zapped by the heavenly Boogie-man but I do still find it difficult to "belong" or to feel I belong anywhere. Fellow Borg survivors are an oasis in the desert, but it is one damn big desert out there. Other than that, and needing to get laid right now, I'm doing rather good.

I'm so sorry to read about your loss. I was glad to see that she died peacefully in her sleep. I think it safe to say that she loved you very much and while her passing would be painful to you and your family that she wants you to be happy and truly enjoy your life. I think this is an interesting topic Robyn because it reminds me of a discussion I heard on NPR last week about the topic of marriage not being such a good idea for reasons of just enjoying sex. We all know that in the Borg they encouraged people to get married to avoid the yearnings for the passions of the flesh. A lot of people in the outside world marry for reasons of sex, love, or both. One of the sad things though is that there is only a 30% chance that any marriage will last in this country. Why is this? Because many people mistake the loss of passion for each other and the lowering of the sexual flames to be a sign that the fire is going out, that they are no longer loved by their partner. They typically move on to another relationship to find that passion again. Some people find that they made a good choice and that, while there may not be as much passion as at the beginning of their marriage, that they are good friends and have respect for each other. Their love has transformed more into a companion type love. For some really lucky people, they manage to keep the flames of passion alive throughout their marriage. It suggests that for some, marriage is not the smartest choice, but that they would have more happiness being single with a large circle of friends, some intimate, some not.
I certainly can see a difference between enjoying sex and love. I find though for myself that sex is a bonding process and that the more I do it with my lover the better it gets and the more positive feelings it generates for both partners. It can lead to love, but I think a better strategy for someone looking for a longterm relationship is to concentrate on being great friends, knowing each other better, getting rid of our own emotional baggage, and developing the skills needed to make a relationship thrive (like good communication skills, etc.) If someone is not shopping for a relationship, then by all means enjoy your freedom to choose recreational sex or not.

Oh no, Bruce Willis will be too damn old then to save us then. Crap, I better get busy building my space ship, or maybe I will just sit out the 1 in 909,000 odds of it happening in this case. But I can't win horse poop with whipped cream on it, so who knows.
