while I personally feel i have more abandonment issues ... its true there are still some self esteem problems too
i have issues with my self-esteem and i recently found a video that kind of spoke to me.
my issues aren't necessarily a result from my time with the witnesses, but i do know that perhaps many of you feel down about yourselves sometimes due to the things you have heard from the watchtower society and some jehovah's witnesses.. you get told that you aren't welcome with you're friends and families because of what you believe in and the morals that you stand for.
the shunning practices, in my opinion, are intended to make a person believe that they are worth nothing without the love and support of the congregation.

there were several being shown from the late fifties, early sixties.
anthony quinn as barrabas, jeffery hunter as jesus of nazareth, etc.. cheesy technicolor and all the romans have upper class british accents.
lots of mineral oil sweat and burlap on the jewish peasants.
There were a few on TV this weekend.. I only managed to catch Charlton Hesston in the 10 commandments and right after that was a newer version of the 10 commandements (but it was after midnight I fell asleep in the first 20 mins)
WE always have a good chuckle at all the super white skinned 'screen Goddesess' with pinup hair who just HAVE to perform at least one dance at some point in the film.
i know a lot of tradesman and they are all witnesses.
that's because when a young witness man is about to enter the working world he thinks not of his future prospects, but of his present circumstance.
he is recommended this approach by his peers, his role models and his god.
I dont think thee is anythign wrong with trades
here in australia tradies make pretty darn good money! Not only that but if you take into account how many people who go to univeristy actually end up working their selected firled of study - I know in 2007 in the US it was less than 1/3 of gradusates. You have higher chances of employment with a trade but I digress....
Is it a scam? I dont think so because they local congos own the hall.
BTW I used to always be impressed by the quick builds... until I noticed that after just 3 short years our brand new KH walls had massive cracks in them from where they had dropped
it bewilderers me how reluctant exjw australians are to take legal action on sexual, mental, physical and spiritual abuse !.
im an australian grew up during the failed generation prophecy and almost every kid i knew in my congregation was being molested by brother so and so ... or "elder so and so who looks after little sister whilst witnessing...... blar blar blar.
we all knew it .... us kids that is ... thought it was the norm ..... unspoken secrets we shared our stories with "promise to jehovah not to tell but ..... or did you know he's doing it to her as well ......... it makes me a tad bit angry that us aussies dont have the guts the u.s has had ...... does anyone know of a single lawsuit by an ex australian jehovah's witness regarding sexual abuse ?.
" I think the law is for the rich"
No the law is for the lawyers ... its just a sad by-product that the rich are the ones who can afford the lawyers
in my attempt to seperate myself from the jw's completely, i am finding all kind of awesome people.
of course, if we are talking by jw's standards these people are "awful".
anywho, there are a couple of them who are absolutely fascinated with the fact that i used to be a jw.. the reason they are fascinated is because they are aware of cultish mind-control and understand just how difficult it is to walk away from it all.
SO much foir their enormous preaching efforts - I think 99.9999999999999'% of people are just slamming doors in their faces because almost noone I know has any clue about Dubs and their practices.
The only friends I know who "gets it" was raised in "The family" (Children of God)...
its fairly similar only they didnt "have such a bad dress code" (as he puts it) and they got to "have Sex with Jesus" (which sounds far more interesting ;-P)
i noticed how, of course, the public talk outlines contain the same information for all the brothers to use.
but their statistics on matter aren't very up-to-date i imagine.. example: i remember the talk about parents or young people or something.
many of you may remember the statistic it provides.
Its not just the statistics they pick and choose from
what about science?
They will dismiss carbon dating that shows many has been around much longer than 6000 years by saying that all scientists are "demonized and worldy" but they they will use whatever scientitific study (usually outdated) that suites their claim about something else.
it seems like i was really wanted at the memorial this year.. .
first invite: saw a jw in a gas station while i was eating some food with my friend.
he invited me to the memorial orally.. second invite: it was a saturday morning, i was in the shower when a jw came, mom answered the door and talked with him, he left a memorial tract and some magazines.. third invite: found a somewhat crumpled memorial tract with a few small tears on my porch.
Thanks Jehovah I am a DA lol :-P
hi i was just looking for some advice.
i have been studying with the jw's for over a year now, and attended 2 memorials and the district/assembly conventions.
at first, and up until very recently i truly believed what i was learning was the truth.
Firstly I want to say how sorry I am to hear of your situation having a miscarriage is a very sad experience My heart goes out to you.
But one thing I hae learnt is that cults - whether it is JW's or any other cult- just love to prey on peope who have hardship in their life - it makes you an easier target to use their "love bombing" on.
All cults use that method: hit you with lots of love and make you feel s special and a part of something great... but once you are "in" suddenly the love is no longer undoconditional and you MUST conform to their rules or else.
I wasn't always a JW growing up... my aunt was one and my dad got involved after he broke his back at work and had to go on a pension.
I didn't realize it for a few years because i was too young and easily suckered in but my dad fit the typical JW recruitment model.
When I was 16 I was sitting in the KH one night and I looked around at everyone in the room and did a quick "stocktake" on their lives. Almost every single person in the hall that night was either affected by a severe ilness or in a family with a servere illness. We had cancer patients/ lupas patients/ chronic fatigue/severe "bubble boy type allergy" girl (who had to attend in the back room listenign to the PA because she couldnt sit in the hall) Could there possibly be such a high percentage of sick people in the world? WHy was everyone in our congregation SO sick?
The answer I came up with was that it WASNT that the jehovahs witnesses had become sick.. it's that the SICK had become witnesses.
After all - Jehovahs wintesses are promising everlasting life with NO sickness.... and even becoming young again... its obvious why this religion was so attractive to these sick people.
I watched for the next few months the "newly interested" ones who came to the KH.... there was a definate theme going on: sick people, single mums, people who had just moved into town with no friends, and otherwise generally lonely people....
I realize that you have come to love and trust these women over time... but the sad fact is that like all JW's they will be your friends as long as you show potential, but they will cease to be your friends if you decide to leave - een if they ARE genuine and DO truly loe you - it will STILL Happen,
Because if you decide to stop studying you when then be branded as "bad association" and they will not be allowed to associate with you.
but PLEASE do not blame these women it is NOT their fault!
I think those that are criticizing the sisters need to stop and remember that these sisters are just acting the way the SOCIETY teaches them to act. They are just poor misguided fools who are following the rules and are brainwashed into acting that way. Some of us here used to act like that too before we realized we had been brainwashed. Don't blame the publishers - blame the societty.
AS to what you should do now - please do NOT go to the publisher interview meeting.. you are just getting yourself deeper into the mess. You will officially be "one of them" and you will be subject to their rules.
You should follow the advice above and show them JWFACTS and sites like this one and tell them WHY you are not interested.
Saying you are busy will NOT work.. they will call you more and not stop. You need to be HONEST with them and tel them WHY you are not interested. As others have stated you MAY help them see the REAL truth... and if you love them as you claim - surely you want to help them too.
Once they know you have been getting information from DF/ ex dubs - and if you tell them you BELIEVE the facts against JW"s you WILL be branded as "apostate" and association will stop because "the rules say so" and they will not want to become "contanimated" by you. You can prettty much guarantee that things will stop VERY quickly.
In future if any JWS come to your door - Tell them you are disfellowshipped or disassociated and they must immediately leave and not talk to you , and write you on their maps to never call on you. (I tell EVERYONEwho asks how to keep JW's away to do this - it is the ONLY guaranteed way to fend them off)
PLease stop by here and let us know how you are doing
Good luck with your new job
i am catching up on this july 15th study watchtower everyone is talking about.
it's perhaps a bit more intense in its vitriol than has been published in the watchtower in a long while (since the early 1980s apostate witch hunt) but it's stuff we've all heard before, even down to comparing apostasy to an illness and calling apostates mentally diseased.. but the phrase that stuck out for me was this:.
they may arise from within the congregation.
yeah its true
know i think about it the organization was supposed to be Gods BODY they were like one and the same
it's only now years later after not having thought about this for a long time that I see how they elevate the organization ABOVE God
The dubsa re constantly talkng abotu lovorganization, serve organization, listen to organization,
They really DONT talk much about God/Jehovah at all!
i got to try something, i know all you great people have commented previously that you've got to do your time working through it, but i need to try for myself a quick answer, i think that because i got into the jw mindset so easily through my parents, that through a hypnotic state i may be able to destroy the damage due to the gb, and begin my life a new, i will give you updates as to the results, peace to you all!.
star tiger.
ps i am glad they do student rates, lol!!
I'm not exactly sure hypnotherapy would work.
Teh thing with hypnotherapy is that as a general rule you have to KNOW what it IS you want to change then go into the subconcious and erase/rewrite it.
The problem for people who are leaving a cult, in this case JW, is that the cults have done such a GOOD job at getting into your brain that you dont even KNOW what it IS you need to change.
The BIGGEST issue for someone leaving a cult is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But, just like a military soldier the PTSD is not coming FROM the action of leaving... its coming from your TRAINING.... the indoctrination that was done to you.
You would do well to find a doctor who specializes in PTSD there are some very good ones out there and some are specialists in Cult leaving.
Many use emdr and CBT to get over the thinking patterns that need to be disrupted.
See if there is a cult information service in your country you can call (we have a coulpl in Australia, there are some in US not sure where u are...) and they can perhaps recommend someone to you.
Please keep us updated I would be very interested to hear how it goes.
