    Hi all,

I got to try something, I know all you great people have commented previously that you've got to do your time working through it, but I need to try for myself a quick answer, I think that because I got into the JW mindset so easily through my parents, that through a hypnotic state I may be able to destroy the damage due to the GB, and begin my life a new, I will give you updates as to the results, peace to you all!

Cool. I went to 2 different ones. One didn't do anything for me, even though he was well known to be quite good. Don't be afraid to let go of stuff.

Good luck! Did you ever think that just seeing a hypnotherapist is a BIG sign that you're already shedding the jw mindset on your own? Hypnosis is a no-no with the Watchtower.

I posted about this previously. Hypnotherapy does not work the way you think it does. I tried hypnotherapy for Witness related issues. You don't forget. My law school roommate wanted to forget a bad romance. Everyone would be doing hypnotherapy all the time if it worked that way. It was funny. I felt very relaxed and my temperature changed. She instructed me to raise my arm up just like in the films. Just to be me, I resisted. I mentally glued my arm to my lap. Soon, my arm went up and in a strange way - just like in films. I was amazed.

It aided me with one task that had much anxiety around it. Helpless against another one.

This subject fascinates me and I say good for you Star Tiger. I have used self-hypnosis CDs for years, or autogenic training, and it is very good for relaxation, stess relief, etc. The old "opening your mind to demon atack" thing is silly and has no scriptural basis. If it works, it works.

I'm not exactly sure hypnotherapy would work.

Teh thing with hypnotherapy is that as a general rule you have to KNOW what it IS you want to change then go into the subconcious and erase/rewrite it.

The problem for people who are leaving a cult, in this case JW, is that the cults have done such a GOOD job at getting into your brain that you dont even KNOW what it IS you need to change.

The BIGGEST issue for someone leaving a cult is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But, just like a military soldier the PTSD is not coming FROM the action of leaving... its coming from your TRAINING.... the indoctrination that was done to you.

You would do well to find a doctor who specializes in PTSD there are some very good ones out there and some are specialists in Cult leaving.

Many use emdr and CBT to get over the thinking patterns that need to be disrupted.

See if there is a cult information service in your country you can call (we have a coulpl in Australia, there are some in US not sure where u are...) and they can perhaps recommend someone to you.

Please keep us updated I would be very interested to hear how it goes.

Good luck Star tiger.... but if it doesn't produce the desired results, just read "Jehovah Unmasked" by Nate Merritt.

Star Tiger - Hypnosis is not magic. Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis. A competent hypnotherapist will ask what damage you consider the GB has done to you?

What you want your new life to include?

What you are willing to do to achieve those goals?

He or she will listen and help you to be aware of your emotions and what has caused them. Then help you to accept and move on. It takes time and can be both revealing and disturbing. We change when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing.

If it works, it will be the placebo effect.

The very slim evidence supporting hypnosis simply suggests it is mildly helpful for only certain conditions, none of which are your reasons for seeking hypnosis.

It sounds like you are expecting a change without changing anything.

Do some relaxation techniques, read some self help books, work through your feelings, forgive yourself, and build a life worth living.

    That's what works.
