i haven't been to a meeting in over a year, and as you know as soon as you stop attending meetings/fieldservice the "conditional" love becomes more apperant.

the coordinating elder starts off by saying how much he loves and misses me, etc.

i ask him, when was the last time you called or texted me?

I haven't been to a meeting in almost 4 years and like you I was a MS who was reaching out to be an elder. I am very sociable and went on vacation with a JW elder and his wife. I often invited people into my home and had a book study group that I conducted in our house. I mentored "fatherless" boys by studying and socializing with them. I decided to stop going to the meetings after the last sessions of our DC in 2010. My wife continues to go and all I got was "say hello to your husband" messages from the brothers. After 2 years I received one phone call from a brother I worked with on the RBC and on a Saturday afternoon 2 elders showed up at my door unanounced, in their suits and bible in hand. I told them I knew how to contact them if I needed to talk. Since then, nothing. Like many said, hospitality from the elders is one way - when you invite them. When my wife brings greetings from the hall or when she says that some "miss" me, I am tempted to reply that they all know where we live...why aren't they coming to visit? But in reality I want nothing to do with the conditional friends and I just want them to forget me...that shouldn't be hard for them.

as a born-in, i was eager to join the ministry school.

my cousins were also born-in but lived in different states.

there was keen competition to see who could do mature things, such as baptism (my mom said when i was 35) and ministry school.

When I was in the cult I thought the TMS was the reason I am recognized as our company's best public speaker. Now that I am out of the cult I realized that something would be drastically wrong with me if after 50 years of practice I was not an expert! I could hhave spared 45 years and gotten a diploma if instead I went to college to acquire the same skills.

I love your approach DT.

It brought me back to my youth. At 18 I bought a motorcycle and rode with other youths in my neighbourhood. One day 4 of us went to one of the guys home to listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album. The guy had pot and they passed a joint around. I didn't feel the urge to run out but I turned it down telling them I didn't even smoke cigarettes...At that time in my "JW life" I already had responsibilities in the congregation as an assistant book study conductor and I assisted at the magazine counter...so I felt guilty for not avoiding a spiritually dangerous situation and staying in the house with my pot smoking buddies. Masturbation was also another matter that bothered my conscience...until all was "resolved" when I got married a few day before turning 19. Unlike many who married at that age in the mid-seventies, we are still happily married after 40 years.

The Literature Stands

just got a visit from two jw's and i mentioned the literature stands they have now.. i mentioned i walk past their stand they set up in my town every thursday on my way to work.

last week the stand was smaller and i asked why was it smaller.

no answer..... i then said you guys usually go door to door dont you?

When I was a child in the early sixties and my mom was vacation pioneering, she would start her time while walking me to school. One block away from my school there was a bus stop where we both stood silent holding up the latest mags. I hated doing this because my teacher and school mates would see me standing there. In these days the mags were much larger in size than today's so I would try to hide behind them. At that time we just stood silent, but sometime later we were instructed to approach the people to start a conversation. From that moment on fewer publishers went out to do street corner work...

Such a sad story. Still the JW will spin it: The love and support at their funeral service was such a great witness for the people in the territory...and Jehovah held off the rain for those who may had to stand outside the overflowing Kingdom Hall...same as Whitney's funeral.

Circuit Oversneer Says. . .

they are appointed by the governing body who in turn are apointed by jesus and holy spirit.

so you have a great privilege when we visit your congregation, because it is the same thing as having jesus visit you.

Circuit overseer Helmut Zoebel was instrumental in my leaving the cult. During one of his visits he made the following statements:

Anything you hope for in life will happen...all you need to do is wait. A young person may be eager to drive a car. In time he will reach the age to get his drivers permit and drive. Likewise we may be eagerly waiting for the new system...be patient and the end of this old system will arrive! It's like on a car trip where you think your destination is just passed the next hill...but it isn't...so you keep on driving until you get there. WTF moment! If we wait long enough the only thing guaranteed to happen is that we all die!

If repeated often enough, an inaccurate statement or a lie will eventually sound true. WTF moment had me ask myself where do I hear the same thing repeated over and over and over again? At the Kingdom Hall...ding ding ding we have a winner!
