HELP! Elder bombarded me with scripture...& I don't know what to do.

i have been lurking on this site for many years.

i rarely post anything, because my english isnt the best and not sure if anyone understands.

i just recently had a run in with an elder, have not seen him in a few years.

1st of all, you have no obligation to him, he has no authority over you, so do not allow him any influence over your decisions. if you do not want to go to the meetings, or any other jw activities, just tell him so. 'sorry, i understand this is something big for you, but i have lost interest' or similar. i tried it, and it works.

2nd, every single point he might being out can be debunked, with the bible. even if you are not up to the task, he still has no real point. are we living in the time of the end¿ according to their own understanding, the time of the end is already going on for 140 years, and no sign of the end yet. do we have to go from door to door¿. taking a look in the kingdom interlinear learns us that 1, nor Jesus, nor his apostles, nor Paul ever went from door to door. 2 the only place where 'from house to house' is mentioned, literary says ' do NOT go from house to house', a command from ... jesus.

so there is no reason at all you should feel intimidated

faders: why do we bother staying in?.

we cling to some false hope that people we love will accept us despite our not believing, even though its as much a fairytale as the dogmas based on untruths.. ive never been anything but a good friend and human being and would do anything for the people i love; i couldnt dream of shutting out someone i care about.

and its not like theyd revel in the idea of doing it either, yet its seen as not just the only choice, but also as undoubtedly the right thing to do.

many people who got disfellowshipped could not process the rupture, because there was no-one they could really talk to, and they never get rid of their feelings of guilt. by avoiding the DF, you increase your chances to keep the process of disconnecting going on at your own chosen pace. some of the 'friends' will stop talking to you, and others not. it gives you some time to build up a network with people outside the org before you really walk away.

that is what i gathered from my own experience

i haven't really been on here in like, a year.

my stbx introduced me to this site and then a whole buch of life happened and i just sort of never had time for forums.

but here i am at 3am, another sleepless night, and i feel like i am simply lost.

quite obviously your hubby is exploiting you big time. a parasite as far as i can see. and blown all the chances to straighten up. he needs a good kick in the butt

Some JW on the street, my reaction...

today i had some of my worst experiences.

i saw a jw group walking on preaching.

one of them knows me well, we share a lot of week-end on rbc.. my first reaction was rage and nerves.

Funny enough, a happy former JW does not fit into the view of JW, so they are very unprepared to handle this. Usually if you approach with a friendly long-time-no-see-how-are-you-doing greet, they will respond in kind. Of course it can be very different if you are DF'd.

The genius of the new donation arrangement

ive given this new arrangement a lot of detailed thought and how greatly it benefits the wt and how much it puts a strain on each congregation.. first, let me explain how the old arrangement worked.. you had 3 donation boxes in each kingdom hall.

one for worldwide work, one for kingdom hall construction and one for congregation contributions.. the congregation contribution box accounted for about 60-75% of all donations.

the world wide work box probably accounted for 20-30% and the kingdom hall construction for about 5% of the contributions.

if anything, it gives the organisation way more leverage over the elders and congregations, and will be very hard for any body of elders to stand up against the organizations wishes

probably the orginal recipient of the letter is in an English or other foreign language congregation served by the italian branch. Nothing special.

Genesis account shaken!

people who believe that every verse of the bible is inspired are in for a shock.

according to genesis account, god created heavens and the earthin a one-time act.

but an experiment conducted at the south pole, two weeks back, has caught ripples in the oldest light in the universe.

There are no 'records' of a global flood, nor are there any of the garden of eden. Genesis was written around 1500 BCE, most of the events described therein happened way earlier, and nobody that could have seen these events was alive when Genesis was written.

if someone would write an unreferenced book about events from a 1000 years ago, that cannot be called 'records'. they can be called stories.

Geologists are quite well-placed to inform us when the land mass of the earth was one continent, the drifting apart of the continents happened way earlier than 4000 years ago. the practical problems with the worldwide flood account like: 'how did the animals get back to their original ground' can therefore not be solved without throwing proven scientific evidence in the bin.

Obviously you are always free to choose to believe what you want, however it should not be called truthfull, reliable info from a divine source, if it is so easy to prove its not correct

Circuit Overseer wakes up, packs his bags and leaves!

i just heard this about a co i knew back in the day before he was even a co. he must be in his mid-late 40's now, my mother told me the story as she knows the family very well (the entire family has gone 'apostate' including several elders, circuit overseers and missionaries - this was an "example" family, always on the stage etc).. he wasn't 'feeling well' so he took time off from his co duties.

that week he packed his suitcase, told his wife he can't do it anymore and he's leaving, leaves her the car and the house and went to live in a small apartment, bought a small car and a week later got a decent job.. this was very recent so not everybody within the org has heard yet what happened..

He never was assigned where I live, but I moved to another country more than 10 years ago. i read your life story, and we might even have met when you were still living in Belgium. I send you a PM

Would it be acceptable for a JW to join the Catholic Church, just to have access to some of the extensive services some of Catholic institutions provide? the answer is clearly NO.

So no excuse is really good enough in this case. If it is acceptable for the organization to join the UN, any JW can join any other religion as well.

And interestingly, just to prove that the organization indeed prostituted itself, and completely guilty as charged, can be revealed by doing a search in the WTLIB CD-ROM on the words "United Nations", and comparing the results between '92 and 2001 with any other similar period. it is striking how many 'positive' articles about the UN during the period 92-2001, and this almost completely stopped from 2002 onwards.
