Passing of witnesses I knew...
by Snoozy ini was on facebook doing some reading in my inbox and found a comment from someone in the area i grew up in on a facebook site i belong to.. the facebook site is one that is pertaining to the area i grew up in.turns out he is a relative of two witnesses i went to the hall with.
they were my hubby's age and the husband and my hubby were friends when they were teens.. they were what i call mean witnesses..never smiled and had a daughter that used to bite all the other little babies and kids in the hall....i don't mean they were bad people just stern.
they were good at heart but just didn't seem happy.. well he told me his uncle (the jw) had passed away a few years ago and his wife (jw) shortly after..they would have been in their early 60's.. i just texted him and asked him if they were still witnesses .

Friedman's "Who really wrote the bible"
by bohm inyesterday i began reading friedmans "who really wrote the bible" and it is a deeply satisfying experience.
i was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the book, in particular, i am very interested in how it conflict with the typical wt explanation of how the bible came to be (which i find very confusing; i think its very hard to figure out how, exactly, the wt view the history of this periode), how usefull it has been in terms of reasoning with jws, and experiences in general.. to kickstart, here is what the book has given me:.
i have generally looked at the bible in a way i now see as quite naive, namely as a collection of more or less conflicting stories that made very little sence.

Scriptures out of context
by Lady Lee ini'm working on my column nad came across this thought by ray franz regarding how often the wts takes things out of context.
they take a scripture from one places in the bbiel and match it up with a couple of other scriptures from 2 or more other places and piece them together liek one huge jigsaw puzzle.
and then present some kind of doctrinal picture based on their out-of-context jigsaw pieces.. that is like taking 3 sentences from various books on history and putting them together to create a new theory.
