Besides Everlasting Life What Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Offer To Anyone?
by minimus ini have been thinking... why would anyone want to join the religion or actually stay in the organization.
i understand that people don’t want to lose their loving family and dear friends so some stay in.
but what does anyone really ever get because they are jehovah’s witnesses??.

All your mom knows to say is what the WT has programmed her to say...

"...no one is required to cut off contact with them."
Theocratic war strategy = justified lying.
If shunning is required by the Bible, why lie about it?

The internal conundrum of opposing ideologies with the Jehovah's Witnesses religion.
by Finkelstein inone might look at the jws in two engaging parts, one part being the activity orchestrated by the top men who create the doctrines which get printed out into many pieces of literature the wts publishes, call it dogma if you will.. the other might be long extenuating rules of conduct of behavior the wts enforces and regulates to its following devoted members in an all out effort to make the organization the most righteous and clean among all other christian based organizations.. the doctrines created by the top leaders of the wts have put forth many doctrines which weren't particularly bible supported, one could even say they were apostate in their expressive originality.. pushing the theology that jesus has returned and has taken to his heavenly throne as of 1914 thereby proclaiming that mankind is living in the last days or "this generation" spoken about in the bible was propagated by the wts for over 100 years now, going as far back as the late 1800's.. there has been a major effort by the organization's leaders from the top down to watch for any behavior by the adjoined members that would ruin the over all righteous image of the organization.
personal appearance is closely watched and monitored, social behavioral activities on various matters are also closely monitored over the avowed members.. there is so much scrutiny going on over the members and critical judgments being imposed on a personal level to the members but what about the very doctrines to which these members are to uphold 100 % less they be punished for openly investigating and being critical of ?.
it seems the men at the top have the control over the doctrines they make and also the power to kick out and condemn anyone who honestly investigates these doctrines to their honesty and viability .

When you think about it, so much of the WT's troubles are self-inflicted.
When Jesus didn't show up in 1874 or 1914, they should have quit setting dates. Instead, they set more and more of them.
They tied themselves down to the end having to come within the lifetime of the 1914 generation. They kept redefining "generation" until now no one understands what they think it means.
After lambasting the Roman Catholic church for covering up pedophilia by priests, they have engaged in a far more extensive cover-up of pedophilia by JWs.
The WT destroys families by its shunning policies, and these are families of their own people, not outsiders.
The list goes on and on.

How Much of the WT Teaching Did You Believe?
by Ding insome people on this forum have said that they never really believed any aspect of wt teaching, that they couldn't wait to get free of it all.. others seems to have been really gung ho, believing it all until something happened that got you questioning "the truth.".
i would say my own high water mark was about 50%, which put me squarely on the fence, trying to decide if i should be in or out.. how about you?.

Overlapping Generation
by pandorasbox1914 inthe september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.

Splane's s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g o-f t-h-e 1-9-1-4 g-e-n-e-r-a-t-i-o-n reminds me of the infamous photo of Nixon's secretary, Rose Mary Woods, demonstrating how she "accidentally" erased 18 1/2 minutes of a key Watergate tape.

Would you be OK with someone removing "Jesus'" name from the New Testament?
by Wonderment inwould it be all-right with you if a translator removes "jesus'" name completely from the new testament and replaces it with a substitute, like "master" throughout?.
-
Ding
If the name didn't appear in any Greek New Testament manuscripts, yes.
The translation should be true to the original, not substituting words that aren't there because someone thinks they should be.
The King James translators did add in words in order to make the transition from Greek to English, but they italicized those words to make clear that that's what they were doing.
By contrast, the NWT injects "Jehovah" into the NT 237 times.

JWs are trained not to ask "why" questions.
Just do what the organization tells you and all will be well...

No Need To Preach In Every Country Anymore
by pale.emperor inspeaking to a pimo from my hometown yesterday.
he told me that in the watchtower study (10 nov 2019) regarding “the great tribulation” the elder on the platform said that there’s no need for jws to preach in every country in order to fulfil the prophecy, and therefore the org has already fulfilled that prophecy.
and that there’s nothing else left to wait for now but for “the great tribulation” to come.. gasps of delight came from the audience.. has anyone else heard this?

Despite all the door-to-door witnessing and time reporting, the vast majority of people have no idea what JWs believe.
