Havent gone to the kingdom hall in ten years but may have to go back...
by Joliette inmade a big mistake of talking about being raised as a jehovah's witness to some old friends and family.
people have told me that i am still a jws even though i've never been baptized.
i'm in school for social services, dealing with student loan debt, and a lot of other debt.

Why go back into something you know isn't true and has caused you harm?
The idea that there is nowhere else to go is part of the WT brainwashing.

That letter states what JWs believe and would almost be guaranteed to turn off everyone who receives it.

Did You Fully Buy the WT View of Romans 6:7 (Acquitted of Sin by Dying) ?
by Sea Breeze inromans chapter 6 is about saying goodbye to the old personality, the old man in the king james version.
the old personality must die, he cannot be fixed.
the old personality is characterized by dominance of the flesh.

I may be wrong, but I think Fred Franz came up with that interpretation of Romans 6:7 as well as the NWT rendering that went with it.

What useful piece of literature have the JW produced?
by HowTheBibleWasCreated inseeing on another post here about former jws throwing away literature.
i am curious as to the various opinions on there value.. for me i have been inactive for 3 years almost 4. i still have alot of books and of course all their bibles ever produced (except a few from the 1800s.).
in my opinion i think there are four books the jws produced that are useful:.

Most of the old literature is useful for disproving the GB's claims about itself and the organization.
As ex-elder Leonard Chretien said, "The Watchtower's worst enemy is its own publications."

Are Jehovah's Witnesses running a race with no end in sight?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inhorse racing lengths vary from just a couple of furlongs to several hundred miles, if you count the mongolian derby.
in britain, horse racing rules state that races should be over a minimum of five furlongs, while the longest race is over 4m2½f.. .
nascar races generally last anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours, depending on the length of the race, number of laps and track conditions.

The end is always in sight for them.
The problem is that the finish line keeps moving.

How times have changed!
It wasn't that long ago the WT considered the internet to be Satan's and JWs were told to stay away from it.
Now, all many Witnesses can do when you ask them a question is refer you to jw dot org.

How about the changed masthead of Awake?
Before Nov 8th 1995: "Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away."
Note: This was proclaimed -- not as the "present light" of fallible men -- but as "the Creator's promise."
After Nov. 8 1995, the reference to '1914 generation' was deleted: "Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things."

Is it because of Pride or Loyalty?
by joey jojo inin a recent effort to entice me back to meetings, an elder friend gave me the example of his dad.. he said that his pioneer/elder/ex-missionary dad went through the anticipation and disappointment of 1975 and yet, he kept going faithfully for decades afterwards.
the obvious point was that, if his dad can deal with disappointment, then, surely a nobody like me could do the same in regards to the scrapping of the 1914 generation doctrine, and all the other changes.
his 'encouragement' was to tell me that it was only me that felt like this, everyone else is fine and have no problems with the changes.

Disappointment over 1975?
Was something expected to happen in 1975?
Seriously, investing years of your life and burning all your other bridges is a powerful motivator to keep going down the same path in the hopes that it really will lead to somewhere nice.
We probably all know people who don't really believe it any more but fear that if they left that would be even worse and that they would be totally alone.
