greetings from tennessee.
thank you for your inquiries regarding the barbara anderson vs. watchtower tennessee appellate court hearing, which took place on thursday, april 14, 2005. accompanied by steve and joy imhof, from panama city beach, florida, and our attorney, jerre hood, from winchester, tennessee, we drove to nashville to attend the 1:00 p.m. scheduled appellate hearing.
this hearing was requested last year by defendants in the case, and they are: the numerous corporations of watchtower bible and tract society; watchtower spokespersons, j. r. brown, and david semonian, and certain elders of the manchester, tn congregation of jws.
thank you Hawkaw

predictions for the end of the world have been going on since the time of christ, and in every century since then.
during the past 100 years there have been more predictions for the end of the world than have been made in all the previous centuries combined.
many of these prophesied dates have since come and gone.. people look around and see the possibility of many different natural or man-made disasters by which the end could come.
Maybe we should join "Skeptics Anonymous" and go thru a 12-Step program to cure us from that.
excellent idea!
or go get a book on critical thinking.
hello, this is my first post here and i will try and be breif.
i am not a jw but have an uncle and family who is strong into their belief.
my cousin (his son) is in the hospital and had a bad accident at work.
alw,
it is not well known among the JWs but several years ago when the european counsil was looking to the deaths of many "cult" members, they said that JWs were a cult if they allowed their followers to die instead of taking blood. So there is an official letter from the WT to the European Council stating that a JW will NOT be df'd for taking blood. Thus the WT escaped the "cult" label in eruope. But did they let the R & F know about that letter? lol, no. So technically, they are not Df'd, but they announce "they are no longer one of JW's". ( and the shunning begins)
I'm hoping someone on here will have a copy of that letter. Or maybe LeeElder on his site has it.

Welcome to the board, Maggie221.
I'm sorry you have to come with the problem you present.
First of all, go to the hospital and be with your uncle. The JW religion tries to be family, but only real family can give support emotionally, imho.
Even if your counsin signed a "no blood card" and he is an adult, you can tell your uncle that JW's don't get disfellowshipped, kicked out, of the religion for taking blood. Unfortunately this is not the time to get into the details on what JW's allow and don't allow because it is all based on nonsense. Please see the website quoted to you, it has a lot of detailed medical information.
If the worse happens, JW's have funerals for their members and of course everyone is welcome to attend. But be forwarned that it will be a sale's pitch for their religion more than morning about the loved one.
I say do what your heart says to do for family. That is love and maybe your uncle will remember the love shown him by his family.
Hugs,
Joy
when you finally came to the jw meeting that you knew was your last one, what were your thoughts, feelings or actions?
.
my last was the summer convent of 1986. i stood there until everyone left and then i took a picture with my new camera of the empty stadium, the wish being that the wts would collapse and never fill up again stadiums with people.
funny I don't remember my last meeting now.
I remember in March of 2001 when I gave my last student talk that it was my last. Somehow I knew I would never be doing that again. It wasn't until the next month that I read CoC, began becoming "weak", "irregular" etc and missed so many meetings do to work or family health problems. I too would sit there and wonder what happened to others who were no longer attending, did they wake up like I did!
At the time I was trying to fade and not get caught because of the mind-control. If I was quiet and good, and hoped they would leave me alone. Now I wish I would have been more vocal about the falsehoods in the organization, the cult-like behavior. I would drop hints but now since I feel I've deprogrammed to the point that I would have done things differently to help wake others up.
*shrugs* I've found that people that don't want to wake up, won't. No matter how much you love them and wish they had their freedom. Lots of people are attracted to that religion for a reason. Its a nice comfortable box to not have to think.
