i am 32, old enough to remember being told to refute the big bang as untrue by my parents and the religion they brought me up in.. it was a big decision for me even as a teen, i knew i was choosing a side, i remember my physics teacher laughing and mocking me and the other jw for denying the big bang.
our parents arranged that in our exams we were allowed to answer questions on the big bang in a unique manner:.
"scientists claim......... but as a jw i do not subscribe to this belief.".
The OP's recollections are correct. In the You Can Live Forever On a Paradise Earth book there was a paragraph that used an illustration to explain the Big Bang theory. It claimed that the odds of it being possible would be equivalent to - putting all the parts of a meat chopper into a sack and shaking it and the result being one assembled meat chopper.

I went to show my union with Christ. The speaker got carried away about 'bunny rabbits peeping from behind bushes in the paradise earth', he was apparently relating it to Isaiah? He also mentioned the 140,000? deliberate mistake? who knows. I partook as I should.

we have been researching our ancestry and so far on my father's side we have located the family land in wales in a little village called machynileth just off the coast of cardigan bay and our search dates to 1749. someday my son and i will visit our family-tree homesteads in europe.. legends develop in anyone's family and one of the curious legends was of an american native tribe called the mantan who lived near the ohio valley and wisconsin and later moved east to the dakotas.
what was interesting about the story of these peoples is that they were blue-eyed and some green-eyed with lighter skin and it was thought early on by anthropologists that some of their words were welsh.
it turns out they were not descendents of welsh explorers but they may have been the result of earlier encounters with europeans.
I am Welsh born and bred, used to speak it, now not so well. I know Machynlleth very well, a pretty town surrounded by forest. I haven't investigated my ancestry although I know that the previous three generations were also Welsh. Whilst I'm from North Wales I believe that the essence of the Welsh nature and community is found more in the South, along with the deep lyrical accents.

i was shopping with nugget in sainsburys and i saw them in the bread aisle.
a couple in their late 70's / early 80's who really i do have an affection for.
he was an ms when i left, not sure if he still is, and she was just a very genuine person with decades of "faithful service" to the cult.. when i was a newly appointed elder, their grand-daughter had accused her step-father of sexual abuse, he was eventually df'd but has since my leaving been reinstated.

as a born in jw my outlet was always music.
my parents let me do piano lessons (from another sister) and when i was 14 i lobbied hard enough for a guitar.
i formed a decent punk/emo type in high school behind my parents back.
Hi Cagefighter, I'm sad to hear about how you're feeling but you know, you've worked hard to get to where you are in business. Why not let it help you, kind of 'pay you back'? Carry on with it but go buy your guitar/s now, being financially ok can mean you can buy something really class. Then use all your spare time to polish up your playing again and yes, maybe open mic nights to get you back in the swing of playing for others. Gradually let your love of music change the balance of your life until eventually it is your full focus again.
I personally don't think it's an either/or situation, if you chuck the business now you might have to devote so many hours to making a living that you have little time to give to your music anyway. That would defeat the object, surely? and you could regret your decision to pass up a good living which can support your music more easily? Meanwhile, lets hear some of your music yea!

stuff that has happened to me and people of other religions that i've met and read about--it makes me wonder if the caretakers of "holy writings" haven't bent us with their theology and pedantry.. i don't think jesus wanted us to make a religion.. he offered an experience of faith that was first and foremost an invitation.
the gospels--even if half diluted with error can't dispel the experiences we feel if we accept these words at face value: john 7:17-18.. i can't stay on- going to doctors today.. thanks.

No, I think he was guiding us all to personal relationships with Him and His father, WITHOUT any man made constructed hierarchy to worship Them. We seem to have seen the consequences of this error.
