  Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - The Day My JW Faith Began to Die (finally)

  it was late june of 2001 that i was appointed as an elder at the amazingly seasoned age of 26. a true lifelong goal had been achieved.

  i had to be appointed an elder before 30. already, peers were starting to be appointed.

  i had to make it.

  I agree, that was one of the best posts I have ever read! I too was appointed an elder at 26. That was 8 years ago. I was a MS on 9/11 and I remember how sick I was at the needless deaths of so many. I remember thinking it wasn't fair, and I also remember an elder telling us that it was a preview of the big A. It made me sick!

  I went on though, just pushing it to the back of my mind.

  I became an elder and was one for 5 1/2 years. My wife and I left together January 2009 (6 months after I resigned as an elder). We quit cold turkey and haven't been back. We have 3 young children and we wanted to make sure what we were teaching them was the truth. It's funny but we would say to each other, "If we were to choose a way of life (that we weren't born into) there is NO WAY that we would have chose this one (JW)." The elders came by and were baffled as to why we left...they said, "one day you are conducting the Watchtower, giving talks on the assemblies, and everyones favorite elder. Then poof!"

  Honestly though, it was the only way we could leave...we couldn't stomach what we were hearing and teach that to our kids any more.

  Here's to remembering the people who lost there lives (and their families who live on) that horrific day, and to those of us who found our lives and began to live.

  I feel I studied as an elder only with the intent of, how can I get this point across. How to 'Sell' it, if you will. I mean they had already done the research.....right? (shaking head) It wasn't about doing the research, it was how can I put this in a better way so that the 'friends' would listen to it and enjoy it. It was all about presentation.

  Need some advice, PLEASE!

  i don't even know where to begin but i'm having trouble with my oldest son (grown) who just moved back home.

  he recently got fired and kicked out by his roommate because he has (in my opinion and the rest of my family) an alcohol and pot problem.

  he doesn't think he does because he can go days without either, a whole other story.

  That's a difficult situation. I've seen alot of good families at a loss as to what to do about situations like this. I'm no doctor but the way I see it, family is always there to help pick up the pieces and set them off again. That's what family is for. Seems to be what you are doing, even though I don't know of any quick fix.

  Ice cold corona with lime, in a can...or bottle, makes no difference! Yeah, good stuff...but seriously any ice cold lighter beer in the summertime is GOOD! Like the mojitos too, Sulla!

  We had a good drink on vacation recently. It's call voodoo juice. It's a combo of banana, coconut, orange, and pinapple rum. Mixed with pineapple and cranberry juice, not too shabby! :)

  Saw some JWs this am! Couldn't stop laughing

  this morning on my way to the office i decided to stop at the gas station to get some coffee.... as i am pulling into the parking space i see this woman w a haircut from the 80's the typical below the knee skirt and long sleeve shirt (is a 105 degrees over here in the shadow).... i immediatly knew she was a jw... she had the latest wt in her hands..... she skipped me and approached a group of young mexican laborers that were resting in the back of a truck... but... as soon as i walked out of the gas station... guess who was waiting for me???

  the jw!!!

  she wanted to do a presentation.. i looked at her and w/o saying a word i started laughing so hard the guys in the truck started laughing as well... she just looked at me and still kept trying to push her literatrash!!

  I may have misread what has been going on Sulla. My impression was that people were taking offense that Free! had laughed at a WOMAN and made her feel uneasy. I just felt that it made no difference to Free! if it was a man or a woman.

  Was she belly laughing on the ground drawing all kinds of attention to this poor JW lady? IDK...was it simply in close proximity to these men who were in the back of a truck, construction type workers I presume. If that is the case and they looked at Free! and thought "hey this chica is muy caliente, hola mamasita!" Well then they may not have laughing at the JW, just simply trying to get Free! to look their way. (There you go Free!)

  Anyways, I don't take issue with perhaps the laughing or snickering about being offered the magazines. Nerves do tend to make us do things we may not normally do. For me, I wouldn't have said, "I'm an apostate" nor would I have laughed like ROFL ;)...I may have snickered a bit though. Probably wouldn't have been able to not see the irony in the situation.

  But as has been mentioned, we all are in different places as far as how we feel about where we have come from. A lot are hurt and have scars left from time spent as a JW. Thanks for your 2 cents as that usually helps to round us all out. :)

  i could never understand what was "good " about the "good news "

  as someone recruited in my 20s and spent about 6 years "interested " though never baptised , i just felt depressed after the lovebombing i received at first , i felt trapped by knowing "the truth" and wished i hadnt heard about it .

  i couldnt understand what was good news about billions of innocents dying including poor children who have suffered enough in countries where there is famine etc... and all my relatives were doomed along with them !

  i was a much happier person before i met jws believing you go to heaven after your death and live with god jesus and your loved ones .

  I always thought it was only 'good news' for JW's and their loved ones that died, for everyone else it pretty much sux. Unless...they would die too, like right before the big A, then it was good news for them too.

  the witnesses say that if you leave the religion you will become a very vile person.

  you will probably get vd.

  you will get into drugs and booze, your life will go to hell.. personally, i've been pretty much the same guy although i would now be viewed as a "fornicator".

  You're right about how 'normal' us 'scary apostates' are.

  I always felt like I wasn't being myself when I was in. I didn't even know myself. I was being what I thought other people expected me to be.

  Well meaning question by former friend "Hey M3S's mom, How is M3S doing these days?"

  M3S's mom's response,

  "He turned apostate!!!! (Gasp) He's materialistic because he works a few Saturdays!!! He's turned worldly...have you seen his facial hair!?? He also is covered in tattoos...(ok he has 1 and it's on his shoulder....but it sounds better to say he's covered in them) He drinks...um well less than us, but he smokes a cigar occasionally so it's waaaaaay worse - he's letting the demons in! He's turned to drugs, because his wife smoked a joint with her best friend on her birthday. Oh, he celebrates birthdays, mothers day, fathers day....He's practically WORSHIPPING people!!!! Oh yeah, I asked him a question about how he would feel if his son (my grandson) turned gay, do you know what he said???? He said 'well mom, he is my son and I love him and would support him no matter what decisions he makes.' He has gone CRAZY!!!!"

  M3S mom replys "it's all because his wife started reading twilight, and they joined facebook!!!! I tell you Satan is strong!"

  I'm lazy so I'm going to mark up Cheeze's and Zoiks' response and use it as my own. Still completely faithful to my wife and she is faithful to me - we have a strong marriage and our kids are thriving. Check. Double Check I have 1-2 drinks per evening, 4-6 evenings a week (within JAMA guidelines for beneficial "moderate drinking"). Wife will have maybe a drink or two on the weekend, especially if we have company. Check. Double Check We don't use illegal drugs. I may or may not smoke weed on occasion. No more than when I was a JW teenager though I have smoked pot one time We don't smoke cigarettes, I also like the occasional cigar for the 'just chillin' factor.... but I have found that an occasional cigar can enhance a nice evening and, at my current rate of 1 every few weeks or so (not inhaling), it doesn't even register as a blip of a health threat in medical studies. I still haven't killed anyone, nor have I been in any bar fights because, well, 1) we don't go to bars and 2) I'm a wuss. We go to bars on occasion. It's a fun diversion and we get to act like grownups acting like teenagers, to a degree. Check Oh and my wife wants to go to Vegas and said we have to go to a strip club while there. It's a bucket list item, yeah she's really twisting my arm on that one.

  Tattoo - Regret it or love it?
