I've got the Proclaimers book. I've recently used it to refute a recent article that claims Russell taught only a few would go to heaven. Unless you believe that "the great crowd" means "a few", this is patently false.

Russell endorsed Biological Evolution
by peacefulpete ini had previously not read of russell's long time endorsement of a evolutionary interpretation of the fossil record.
he and the bible students sought to find some convoluted way to retain their belief in creation while yet appearing modern and scientific.
in brief the doctrine was that god may have in fact used evolution for all but human creation and once the creation was complete he put the brakes on the process.

Christ Almighty, yet ANOTHER departure from what Russell originally taught! How in the hell do these guys claim ANY kind of spiritual heritage from him? They've changed damn near everything! What's really sad is, the more I read Russell's material the more intellectually and spiritually bankrupt the org seems. And considering most folks' opinion of Russell (he was no saint in my book), that's saying a LOT!

List of Prominent JW Urban Legends...

i'm wondering if you all could help me with my next video that i want to put up in the next couple of days (though i'm hoping for tonight), i want to come up with a list of the most prominent urban legends surrounding jws and then refute them whatever they may be.. i'm thinking there's the urban legend about the question on jeopardy that said the nwt was the most accurate would be a good one.
that one stems from an online powerpoint presentation named theological jeopardy and a book which was written comparing six different translations of the bible.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the one-night-stand-"Welcome To the World of Aids"-lipstick-on-the-mirror urban legend. This is one of the oldest, most well-known and well-documented urban legends out there. It's practically a template for urban legends. Now, I'm not saying that something like this never happened or never could have happened, BUT...
This story was presented FROM THE PODIUM at an assembly a few years ago as happening to a lapsed JW who "fell out of the truth" over a one-night stand then got AIDS as a result, except in this version, it was an engagement-ring-style box with a note inside rather than lipstick on the mirror. Other than that minor detail, it was pretty much verbatim.
I remember when I heard this story from the podium. I thought immediately, "This is a WELL-DOCUMENTED URBAN LEGEND". I mentioned it to my wife, who seemed none too happy that I would dare make such a (nonetheless factual) charge. I had been having doubts for a long time, but I think that may have been the beginning of the end.
That was maybe 5, 6 years ago.
A couple of months ago my wife divorced me.

Bethel reductions in Europe
by Lost-In-Translation inperhaps this has been discussed before, but at the extjforo.com (the spanish ex-witness website) there has been a lot of discussion of the governing body's decision to either close or severely reduce bethel homes in europe - in particular spain.
there was even a letter sent to all congregations in spain explaining the situation.
bethalites are being asked to leave - they are not even getting other assignments.

1 CO 15:33 - my favorite overused misinterpreted tired old JW chestnut. It's getting to be about all you hear anymore. I can testify to that personally in my case (i.e. family members)... the favorite of poor little kids trotted out to the platform for being Good Little Du(m)bs. "I don't got no wordly friends 'cos Bad Associations Spoils Useful Habits! And you're a Bad Association, and I'm a Useful Habit."
I swear to God the above quote from a poor little JW kid at a recent convention is true.

Does anyone find it too painful to read the WTS publications?
by dissed inbeen out 13 years and even for research purposes, i find it way too painful to read this wt stuff.. and why?.
all the painful memories it brings back.
don't misread me, it has nothing to do with a guilty conscience.. it has to do with the real pain, the anger of being ripped off and lied too by the wts, the anger of seing how they have protected child molesters, sacrificed its followers by refusing blood transfusions, the treacherous way we and others were treated by the 'unloving brothers'.
