I wrote a Proverb today, what do you think Iam trying to say?
by Nambo inhere in the uk we are going through the annual rememberence rituals and everybody wears a red poppy.. i prefer to wear the white poppy of the peace pledge union which elicits both respect and contempt.
its interesting to see the way members of parliaments eyes alight on my somewhat rebelious symbol when they say good morning to me.. .
anyhow, today i composed a proverb, maybe its crap?, iam a mechanic by trade, not a poet.. so, what do you think iam trying to say?

i think it is really stupid........the idea seems to be that if someone wants a decent career and to make enough money to live comfortably they are "seeking worldly riches". have they taken a serious look at the average american versus "worldly riches"???? middle class wages can go up to like $250k annually - they are zeroing in on an audience whose family of 4 likely (if lucky) averages $50k a year. so they figure they'd be in a better position if they pulled $75k? absolutely - but how does that make them materialistic or greedy????? the truly materialistic have villas on the Mediterranean, yachts in the Caribbean, penthouses in New York, ranches in the American Southwest.....maybe a hideaway in Thailand..... They really have a warped view of life outside the ivory towers.

Hi! Life story of young, 23-year-old (gay), disassociated, non-baptized publisher
by HillCountry inhello, this is my first post and the first time i have told my entire story, albeit abridged, to anyone.
it will be a long story, sorry.. my grandparents were brought up with different religious backgrounds but converted to bible students around the depression era.
later, my grandfather met my grandmother through the congregation and got married until his death, having a marriage that lasted over four decades.

Hill Country - you go with your heart. Get your education -live your life....what's real is now and right before you - and you are young and full of potential. Love your family - give them all you got - but be true to yourself!!! You are a survivor and can accomplish so much and find your niche! Sounds to me like you are well on your way! Best!!!

Shunning - I just can't get my head around it
by jambon1 inlet me first state that i have never been shunned.
i faded from the org very quickly & my life hasn't been blighted by this practice.. i have been out of the organisation for over 6 years.
most of the things i left the religion for, i have came to terms with.

It is unnatural...it would be so much better if the message were something to the effect that "warning - prolonged association with this individual could be damaging to your spiritual health" and then leave it to the person to decide how much damage control to take.....but we all know that no one is allowed an opinion or decision of their own - and woe unto him who has the guts to do their own thing..........
i grew up in a family with a df'ed member....and it happened when i was preschool. one day all of a sudden i was ripped from my favorite friend - my cousin - and soon thereafter learned to quake at the very sight of my aunt....i was so scared of those people and for what...............of course we are talking dysfunctional family....anointed...third generation...psychotics...neurotics....oh the whole gamut.

Who (not what) is your guilty pleasure? (Controversial favorites)
by Terry inwe all have somebody we are crazy about that almost everybody can't stand.. if you mention their name your companions give you that "look" (ya know the one, like you just got caught picking your nose!).
i was thinking about this the other day.
i was truly curious if i'm mental or if everybody has a guilty pleasure list like i do.. i'm just going to assume we all do until you set me straight.. if you attach a photo and short explanation about why you like these pariahs it will be more meaningful.. .

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves
by PaintedToeNail inbeing an adult, i choose not to attend the meetings.
i would prefer my children not attend meetings, however being married to a diehard jw, this is difficult to accomplish.
the kids do not want to attend, as the meetings are boring, as they have often said.

poor kids - this guy needs some courses in child psychology. not to mention common sense. you don't get a kid or an adult or even your pet dog to love something and want it if they are tortured into it. if he wants them to love and participate in his religion he should be making it fun and nice for them - a pleasant experience - not a threat and fear of bodily pain and/or harm.
keep your head up, painted toenail and give those kids all the love in the world....they'll get the picture. best luck and know we're rooting for you.

About what one thing do you find yourself being a real SNOB?
by Terry inyou know, to fit in....to be a part of our own family or group and not be a total nerd or contrarian.. we hold our tongue.
we smile and nod.. but, then....there is at least one thing we just can't go along with because it is too important.. why?
because we are a total snob.
