It seems to me they are going beyond even the "soliciting" they said they would never do.

A serving elder's take on the new "tithing" arrangement
by TTATTelder inthe gb can kiss my ass.. i'm writing "0" on the little slip of paper they pass out.. hey here's a thought:.
you know that "widow's might" stuff they're always talking about?
well i'm pretty dang sure that the lady was giving from the heart not because she filled out some dumba$$ piece of paper pledging two small coins several months previous!.

My Elderette is returning today to CONDUCT another conversation...
by Faithful Witness inshe has had 42 years of training and indoctrination.
i'm feeling sort of nervous, but also looking forward to it.
this will be our second scheduled session together, and we never did agree on a topic.. i'm assuming she will come with an agenda and another prepared presentation.

Best wishes.
Why pander to her fear of being asked questions and her fear of writing out her own answers in her own handwriting?
It may not be wise to allow her to make you do all the heavy lifting - she'll learn little or nothing, and maybe just grow a bigger ego.
My all time favourite: "please can you explain the gospel to me in one word and in writing?"
(Followed by "why not?")

My Experience and how I finally let myself see the truth
by OneEyedJoe infirst off - for those lurkers who feel guilty just for being on this site and reading this (even if you don't read any further, as it is your right to choose that course) i want you to know that you're not alone in what you're going through or in what you are feeling.
if you read on, i hope my experience may be of some small help to you.. this may be long, but i'll try to organize it in a way that doesn't make it painful to read.
to start, i feel it is most beneficial if i'm upfront and honest with my goals from posting this, which are (in order of the degree to which they motivated me):.

Welcome OneEyedJoe.
Thank you for sharing your valued and well written perspective and for thinking of lurkers and their predicament.
My exit and thinking at the time was not nearly as well thought out, calm, rational, stable and balanced.
Actually the opposite.
I do envy you.
At any rate congratulations for being such a quick learner and taking on board ideas on how to be a better husband and person, to ease your wife's journey. She may not be as well resourced, and as you have pointed out emotion will be a factor to loving consider and deal with.
Best wishes all round

Do Current WT writers review Early Russell Writings? Obviously not.
by objectivetruth infrom the book "the divine plan of the ages" - c.t.
russell 1886. as a forcible illustration we mention the sodomites.
surely, if we shall find the restitution of the sodomites clearly taught, we may feel satisfied of the truth of this glorious doctrine of restitution for all mankind, spoken by the mouth of all the holy prophets.... unto the jews of capernaum he said, "if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in sodom, it would have remained until this day.

"There is nothing Worse then an apostate that has the Power to take the Place of Jesus in Millions of peoples Lives."
Indeed. Sad too.

Improving your memory
by snare&racket ini have never had teaching on memory, i have never really had any advice given to me on memory, but i think it is something we would all benefit from knowing, even at a young age.
as we know how our brains make connections now, it seems a missed resource that they don't overtly teach memory methods in school to suit our anatomy and physiology.. anyway, for those that are interested in discussing it and have sought out your own methods, i am interested to hear them!!!.
everyone has slightly different memorising techniques, i am a very visual learner and i have a very visual memory.

How I Ended Up On JWN...

i was stuck in a situation where reaching out took forever, an eternity.
it was ridiculous - no matter what i did, there was always more to do.

Welcome Just Kidding!
Yes the Watchtower system cannot help itself - it is what it is.
The "good news" is that the system has done you a great big favour in pointing out that you do not belong.
You clearly are not good Pharisee material.
Nor do you belong in the "ruling religious clergy class".
And that is awesome news.
Best wishes on your life's journey, being true to yourself, and being the best you can, at whatever you want.
We'd love to learn more when you are ready to share.

Mom is coming over tomorrow. What should I ask?
by Faithful Witness inmy mother is visiting us again tomorrow, only 5 weeks since her last visit.
things seem to be going pretty well with her, and the kids are enjoying having grandma back in our routine.
she is retiring at the end of may (age 65), so she promises that this is going to mean more time with family.

It is a process, and one you seem to have well in hand, especially creating time alone with your mom, and a safe space in which she can unload and process her thoughts, concerns and issues, without feeling manipulated, pressured or threatened.
If and when the time is right, you may want to direct simple questions toward your mom's main blind spot, namely the whole gospel, especially according to Paul.
For example:
Mom, I have a few questions I would like to ask you about the "good news" in the Watchtower library (on computer or on the internet). Please can you let me know if and when you are able to set a day or two aside for this?
Are you a "publisher of the good news"?
How long have you been a "publisher of the good news"?
Is it true that the (Watchtower) Bible refers to "good news" around 152 times?
Is it true that more than half these are by Paul?
So what is the "good news" according to Paul?
How many times does Paul mention "good news"? (85 times)
How many times does Paul mention "good news" and "Kingdom" in the same sentence? (zero times)
Why?

Are we all actually "bad / evil / immoral" after leaving the faith?
by stuckinarut2 inso recently there have been several posts with references to talks and articles that imply the following:.
most of those who learn ttatt or fade from the "truth", are actually practicers of bad things, eg immorality, hence that is why 'we' now find fault with the org?.
i find this so offensive that they imply such.
-
Fernando
I have not left "the faith" but found it.
I have not left "the truth" but found it.
I have left the apostate and idolatrous religious Watchtower organisation with their GB (Sanhedrin) and their "ruling religious clergy class" (Pharisees).
My experience has been like Paul describes: the power of sin is amplified by law, and weakened by grace.

Delighted, especially with the freedom to think, question, research, grow and develop.
Although a big part of my past they no longer have any hold on me or my thinking.
