I agree that truth stands on its own and can be tested.
I typically avoid dissuading people from risky behaviors such as smoking, extreme sporting, driving, and unprotected sex. Some people simply have a higher thresshold for risk than I do. Besides, many people who enjoy these activities are aware of the risks and take appropriate precautions.

Biblical Prohecies That Came True?
by Viviane inrecently there have been several claims made regarding prophecies that came true.
i've not personally seen a prophecy that i would consider as having come true.
i would consider the following as the requirements to say something is a prophecy and evaluate whether or not it came true:.

The belief that Isreal would rise again comes from one of Jesus' prophecies and the fig tree, in Matthew 24:
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it [ e ] is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35
So I don't think it meet's viv's criteria. It is not specific nor did it happen on time. It was to happen within Jesus' disciple's generation. What might the fig tree be? Many things.

So if I were to characterize your post, it's like you are standing on the edge of a crystal-clear pool and you are dipping your toe in the water. You are wondering if it is cold enough to stop your heart, or if it would be as refreshing as it looks.
First of all, you have some serious questions about the WTS. Are those questions so serious that you are questioning your membership with this group? If so, take the leap.
Second, there's nobody stopping you from living the way you wish, including keeping strict morals and watching your tongue. I am also unable to curse, thanks to a firm (non-JW) upbringing. Regardless of what the WTS says, you are well able to keep these standards within or without the walls of the Kingdom Hall.
Everything else - agnostic, athiest, and sexual orientation are side issues. You will meet all kinds in the big, wide world and you may even find that many make great friends. Once an exiting JW confided privately that he had trouble accepting homosexuals. I advised that he think of the person rather than the act. If a person wholistically is a kind and gentle soul full of good works and happens to be gay, why would I shun such a person?

Yes, the picture with the kiddies disturbs me far more. It says, "Trust me with your children."

Thanks for Lifton's list. Indeed the WTS uses all of them. That would put the Watchtower Society solidly in the thought reform crowd, right? Undue influence...

A question for the Trolley & Cosmopolitan Witnesses
by The Searcher inask them why not one scripture states that christians were instructed to be "witnesses of jehovah".. when they get flustered and tongue-tied because they cannot cite a single verse from matthew to revelation to back up their scripturally false "designer label", inform them that there are at least 30 scriptures which clearly show show that christians are to be witnesses for christ, not god!.
(isaiah 62:2) and you will be called by a new name, which jehovahs own mouth will designate.. (acts 11:26) ..........in antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called christians.. .
(matthew 10:18) ....before governors and kings for my sake, for a witness to them and the nations.. (mark 13:9) .......be put on the stand before governors and kings for my sake, for a witness to them.. (acts 1:8) ...........you will be witnesses of me in jerusalem, in all judea and samaria...... (john 1:15) john bore witness about him,.

Well, nearly all denominations subscribe to the Nicene Creed. This is a neat way to identify those who are "Christian".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicene_Creed
The evangelicals add another layer of confession to Christ. For them, it's a matter of no "True Christian" will do without the confession. Highly irritating for me are those types who would seek out my spiritual status without getting to know me first. Would I be "true" enough for them? So insulting.
Amusing are the apologists here who assume I am athiest without checking first. Simply for my audacity to point out their flawed arguments. They do more damage to God's reputation by defending the indefensible, IMO.
The Witnesses, the Christadelphians and the Unitarian Universalists don't subscribe to the Nicene Creed so they are outliers.
