PBS agrees to ban new religious TV shows
by purplesofa inpbs agrees to ban new religious tv showscompromise ends threat to stations that already broadcast church servicesupdated 5:14 a.m. et, wed., june 17, 2009the public broadcasting service agreed yesterday to ban its member stations from airing new religious tv programs, but permitted the handful of stations that already carry "sectarian" shows to continue doing so.. the vote by pbs's board was a compromise from a proposed ban on all religious programming.
such a ban would have forced a few stations around the country to give up their pbs affiliation if they continued to broadcast local church services and religious lectures.. until now, pbs stations have been required to present programming that is noncommercial, nonpartisan and nonsectarian.
but the definition of "nonsectarian" programming was always loosely interpreted, and the rule had never been strictly enforced.

[Allow for response]. Then ignore.
by AlphaOmega ini haven't read any jw stuff for some time now, but this morning i found an electronic copy of the current "our kingdom ministry" in my e-mail.
i had a quick flick through and realised how rude the "doorstep suggestions" are.
quote:what to say about the magazines .

My Weak Agnostic Testimony
by besty inin terms of faith i have decided to give the invisible characters a rest for the time being.
the last set i had weren't really adding any value, and right now i'm happy with more rational answers to life's mysteries.. in my opinion religion was an early attempt to answer these mysteries and so inevitably we are accelerating towards a post-religious world.
when technology allows us to extend our lives as long as we wish, the need for salvation via invisible magic diminishes.it seems to me that religion is deeply influenced by parental authority and cultural norms.

I can understand people believing in a grand designer, but why the leap...
by Psychotic Parrot infrom the grand designer to jesus?.
people always justify belief in god by saying that the universe needed a creator to balance out the fundamental forces & set things in motion, etc... or in other words an intelligent first cause (who designed the designer though?)....
but how do we get from this ambiguous grand designer to the judeo christian god, or jesus, or al lah?

Are Watchtower Writers Frauds or Morons?
by metatron ini have asked a salient question.
i will leave the answer to your judgement.. look, the may 1 watchtower on page 27 considers the question "did king hezekiah really build a tunnel into jerusalem?".
in their answer, the society replies, "the carbon - 14 tests we carried out on organic material within the plaster of the siloam tunnel, and uranium-thorium dating of stalactities found in the tunnel, date it conclusively to hezekiah's era.

by VM44 inin the1975 yearbook of jehovah's witnesses on page 121, it says:upon brother rutherfords return to the societys pittsburgh offices, he instructed the societys vice-president, c. a. wise, to go to brooklyn and see about reopening bethel and renting premises where the society could begin printing operations.
the conversation went like this:.
"go and see whether it is the lords will for us to return back to brooklyn.".

"Commenting" at Meetings
by cameo-d ini don't quite understand why you call it commenting.. when i attended meeting the question at end were read.. when people "commented" it was never a real comment.. it was just reading back word for word a sentence or two from the paragraph that answered the question.. i would think "commentary" would be something you put in your own words and give a personal statement about it.. .
why do you call it "comments" when it is more like reciting?.
or is it different in other kh?.
