  New Light - How would you feel reading this as a JW?

  It certainly sounds like something the WT would publish. 'Cult speak' at its finest.

  What I never could accept was that if Jehovah/scripture/God/The Flying Spaghetti Monster/Jibbers Crabst (the newest interwebs deity) kept making the light 'brighter', why didn't he/they/it/she just come right out and say the real truth right off? What's with all the obfuscation and years of f'ing with mankind?

  Simple answer: There is no grand Sky Daddy directing anything or anyone, least of all any organized Christian religion, on the face of this Earth. It's all coming from the human imagination and psyche. And that explains a lot.

  you know you want to.. i loooove xmas songs but there are a few that make me cringe.. the old feed the world.

  rebel8, the 2 songs you've listed rankle me immensely. "Please Come Home For Christmas" irritates me too. As a matter of fact, many Christmas songs do.

  One that I do absolutely love though is Metallica's and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's instrumental versions of Carol of the Bells .

  My Mom actually did not encourage child baptism - she felt this was a decision that should be made as an adult. She used Jesus as the example.

  Whew! I am so glad she did.

  i have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.

  theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .

  we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

  my husband just won the city wide holiday light display for christmas i am so proud .

  just a few short years ago i was the one that put a strand of white lights around the porch railing ,and a couple of lighted deer in the yard ....that brought the elders around real quick (after three years of silence ) at that time my husband was still holding onto the notion his faith was not bond to a cult .

  it didn't take long after the 'loving sheparding call' for him to see things in another light.

  Why JW marriage is a huge problem for the organization.

  the difficulty of finding a marriage mate is well known for sisters.

  but i would say it's hard for brothers also.

  Years ago there was an extremely attactive woman in my parent's congregation. She was browbeaten for being beautiful. The elders were constantly telling her she was dressing too sensually, etc. But regardless of how much dowdy dressing she wore, her beauty overcame it and the Witnesses didn't know how to deal with it. She was married with children as well. Not sure if she is still in as I believe they moved away.

  To the comment about beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I can verify that. I have been told I am pretty, beautiful, gorgeous, attractive as well as ugly, overweight, and unattractive. * Heaven shrugs her shoulders * . Whatever.
