Counting Time: Is it Scriptural?
by cameo-d inwhat is the purpose of punching jehovah's timecard?.
doesn't wt psychologically imply that jehovah "owes" them paradise because they have "worked" for it?.
it seems there is a scripture somewhere about "love does not keep an accounting".. perhaps one of you can find the scriptural incidence.. .

If You Didn't Have to Count Time
by journey-on in....how many do you think would actually go out in service?
if they didn't think some elder was keeping up with their hours and number of placements, i think most witnesses would avoid it altogether.. ...also, if the brothers didn't have a corporate congregational ladder to climb, would they make any real effort?
i think many of them do it because being an elder or ms gives them a sense of accomplishment and a certain authority they otherwise would not enjoy in the mundane world.

Society's use of 2 John 9-11 to justify total shunning totally wrong!
by yadda yadda 2 inthe watchtower society appears to have totally twisted the meaning of the original greek work for "greeting in 2 john 9-11 to justify not even saying a polite "hello" to disfellowshipped or disassociated ones.
the following from http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/disfellowship.htm sums it up very nicely:.
"likewise the term to never say a greeting to him needs to be understood in light of first century practice.

Solomon: Sex Addict or Shrewd Businessman?
by cameo-d inthe scriptures say that solomon turned away from 'god' in his later years and this is attributed to the influence of his wives.. how can this be correct?
it seems that from day one solomon had no special affection for 'god's laws' to have so many wives in the first place.. most people would expect 700 wives and 300 concubines to be high maintainence.
wouldn't you think there would be an awful lot of cat fights and chaos?.

Has anyone lost a friend or known of someone who committed suicide over BORG-induced guilt?
by Alpaca ini am not going to use any names for this because i don't want to cause potential hurt to anyone.. there was a very nice family in my congregation when i was a teenager.
step-dad, mom, and her 4 kids.
the dad became an elder, had a great business, the mom spent lots of time with the kids.

What Makes a Person Vulnerable to Join a Cult ? By Steve Hassan
by flipper inmost of us often wonder with amazement how we ever got caught up in the jehovah's witnesses mind control after having been out for awhile.
and we still wonder how some of our relatives stay trapped inside it.
well, steve hassans book " releasing the bonds " explains briefly in chapter 4 how it can happen.

Marley Cole's "Jehovah's Witnesses - The New World Society"
by witnessgirl inwell, i just finished reading marley cole's "jehovah's witnesses - the new world society" book from 1955. i'll provide a few quotes to introduce it in case you aren't familiar with the book.
ray franz in crisis of conscience, p74, 2004 hc edition: cole wrote the book as if he were a non-witness writing an objective account.
the idea was that by having the book published by an outside publishing firm it might reach persons who normally would not take society literature.
