  How Many "Householders" Did You Bring...

  just curious...after a long discussion with my mother on her 34 year career as a faithful jw, i asked her how many people she brought in, not counting my sister, myself, my father?

  4 in 34 years.

  since i started going door to door at age 5 until age 18, i never had a bible study with anyone.

  That's the thing I noticed, whenever I talked to someone at the door that was really into it they always knew the bible better than I did. I generally felt pretty stupid trying to talk to them about it when it was clear they knew it better than me. Of course at the time I had convinced myself that I still knew "the Truth" while they were blinded by Satan blah blah blah you know how it goes when we justify something to ourselves.

  Now that I'm out I can see that they actually did read the bible, I just read the Watchtower.

  What things are pagan in origin?

  i read someone's commment about the pagan origins of pretzels, which i didn't know.

  i'd like to share with my kids other items or customs that are also pagan in origin, like wedding rings and the wedding cake.

  i want them to see that christmas isn't the only tradition with roots in pagan religion that have changed meaning over the years.. any others out there?

  I don't think the pagans were celebrating Christ
  so is it pagan to not celebrate Christ?

  The pagan weren't celebrating Christ, then again neither is a Christmas tree, Frosty the Snowman or just about anything else that is done at Christmas.

  Humans have had mid-winter and winter-solstice celebrations for a lot longer than Christianity has been around.

  if evolution were untrue, how come genetic studies point to an african.

  origin.eg it has been worked that the vesikela khung!

  who live in the western caprivi area of namibia had the oldest 'male lines' in the world(119,000 years approxiametly).. compare that to the approxiametly 6,000 years claimed by watchtower!.

  Heh, I was just in a discussion with a Christian that was upset that Christmas had been "hijacked by the liberals" and was losing its true meaning. I pointed out that Christmas had been hijacked by the Christians already, and that the pagans must be saying the same thing he was.

  Guess I did learn something usefull in the Hall after all.

  just who in the hell was he naming them for.

  wasn't he doing this prior to having eve.

  Blood Show on Discovery Channel

  did anyone happen to catch the show on the cable tv discovery health channel this past weekend about blood?

  i tuned in mid-way through it, just in time to see them covering bloodless surgery planned for a jw woman.

  the patient was a very heavy, diabetic woman who needed heart surgery.. what i found interesting was that the patient refered to herself as a "jehovah witness" (sic) while the narrator of the program used the correct pronounciation.

  The lack of education really showed in our hall too. Some of the talks that were given were laughable. The speaker either couldn't pronounce words correctly, or made such rediculous analogies that it was difficult for to not laugh out loud at them.

  I think I've seen part of that show, but didn't see the witness. Was it a rerun? Seems like I saw it about 6 months ago, but don't remember exactly.

  -reared by family who decided to let it die.. -reared in religion that said it should die.. -must preach against medical treatment to which it owes its' life.. bright future ahead!!!.

  Frenchy's right. No doubt the local elders will be telling the family how to raise the kid thinking he was "spiritually raped" by the "Worldly" doctors. If they have any kind of brains at all they won't even mention this to him, but I don't see that happening.

  funny how a strange thought can just 'pop' into your head.. .

  according to genesis, a preface to the flood was the intercourse that took place between materialised angels and human women (gen 6:2).

  if the angels have no gender, why were not at least some of them tempted by human men and so materialise as women?.

  Gender bias. The bible was written by people that felt that women were property and not as smart as men so therefor no angel would ever be a woman.

  Or because it didn't really happen. ;)

  i would just like to know how you were able to arrive at your belief system.

  if i am not mistaken, an atheist is a person who absolutely does not believe in the existence of a god.

  while i can definitely understand why someone would be averse to believing in conventional theism (inconsistenies, errors in writing), i cannot understand how one can be 100% certain that a god does not exist.

  Are you 100% certain Santa Claus doesn't exist? How about a big pink bunny in the sky? Zeus?

  Or do you hold out that they might actually be real?

  And as far as primary causes, if the Big Bang required a maker who made God?
